@jamfullhouse Wow....glad you got an answer! I hope the PT really helps and you can lost the pills!
Thank you! Me too! At least I know what I am dealing with and not keep being told it's all muscle pain.

Original start weight: 178 lbs (Oct. 10, 2019)
Goal this round: 159.0 lbs
Ultimate goal 135 lbs.
End of round 106 3/07= 160.4 lbs
03/09. 160.2 lbs. 1500 calories. 11,000 steps. Still no mri results would like to know about my back before I go off pills and can start working out.
03/10 160.6 lbs 1375 calories 3500 steps. Back and stomach are still a mess, finished grandson's quilt and started pillowcases instead of walking due to issues. So tired of not feeling well, I am sure you are tired of hearing about it. Ugh!
03/11 160.8 lbs 1075 calories, 15,600 steps MRI showed Moderate neural foraminal narrowing ( narrowing where the nerve comes out through the spine down your legs), some circumferential disc bulging and moderate degenerative endplate change ( DDD or osteoarthritis) in L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1, Doctor said to stay on pills even though they mess up my stomach and come back for PT. I am going to have to take a short break from pills and get my stomach better, it's not sustainable this way currently and now that I know exactly whats wrong I can do PT exercises for that without going to PT twice a week, it's 90 miles of driving each time.
03/12 161.0 lbs 1413 calories, 18,500 steps Back exercises. Went out with friends for supper and this is beer bloat. Off pills, stomach better and back holding its own. IF 14 hours

Day/Weight/Comment
03/08: 180.4 (Yesterday was such a busy day! I made some banana bread in the morning when I woke up, my hubby and I went grocery shopping, I bought a brand new beautiful couch with electrical recliners and a dining table with chairs, we went to Best Buy to buy the Nintendo Switch, we took my father in law out to dinner since he officially moved to Florida this morning. Very very busy. Today marks the first time my hubby and I will be alone without family. Everyone moved to Florida in the past 6 months and my hubby and I have decided that LA is our home. It’ll be a weird change but a good one.)
03/09: 181.8 (I did a long 70 minute workout yesterday and ate at a deficit. We’ll see how the rest of this week goes!)
03/10: 179.2 (Trust the process! I literally pushed so hard in my Zumba class last night and it paid off! Made a dinner that fit into plan and had a good night of sleep.)
03/11: 178.2 (Happy to see it continuing to go down! I did some weight lifting and spinning yesterday. I’m already below my Friday weigh in weight.)
03/12: 178.0 (I did a very tough hill spinning workout last night that definitely started a waterfall of sweat. It was the toughest thing I’ve done in awhile! I ate to plan and had a relaxing night after the gym since the hubby made dinner.)
03/13: 177.4 (I haven’t seen the 177’s since September 2019! I only have 1.4 pounds to go to make my lowest weight. I’m guessing a combination of not taking steroids anymore and maybe a change in my workout is causing the drops? Who knows. Perseverance pays off!)

Round 105- SW 159, EW 158 -1
Round 106- SW 158, EW 153.2 -4.8
3/8- 154.8 ate back all my exercise calories yesterday, which is probably why I'm up a tad today. I tend to bounce around.
3/9- 154.8 I'll be happy if I'm not up tomorrow. I stayed within calories yesterday, but weekends are hard. So active and not great at tracking food.
3/10- 155.8 Sigh. I'm so tired of jumping around. Is this normal? I didn't go over calories.Maybe I'm not tracking my food carefully enough. I haven't been using a food scale, so who knows. I'll try not to eat back as many of my exercise calories. The trend is downward so I'll focus on that and just keep on keeping on. I'm at a healthy weight so I need to not be in a such a hurry.
3/11- 156.2 I'm totally perplexed. I have been working out a lot more lately and eating back most of my exercise calories, but I have not been cheating. I can tell I'm retaining water. I haven't felt great. Hoping this is a temporary thing, but I'm holding course
3/12- 154.6 Yep. Have to not freak out. Hold course and don't worry about the fluctuations too much. Rode for 45 min and ran 3 miles. I'm not a runner, but I felt good for the run.
3/13- 155.0 Not unexpected. I ate over calories yesterday, but not by a ton. I didn't binge on anything, but it was like cottage cheese and then raisin bran and then a hot dog. I've been riding and running a lot so I feel fit. That's good. I know that these last few lbs are going to take a while.8 -

Day/Weight/Comment
3/8: 141.8 (-.4) – Did a longish yoga class yesterday and a nice walk. The next 8 weeks may be rough as I navigate the hip issue and try to maintain/ lose lbs. I think sticking to water, mindful eating, good choices is the answer. How many calories will I burn washing hands and not touching my face? 🤣
3/9: 141.0 (-.8) – Guess I answered the question above! Washing hands burns lots of calories. And I also ate well under my calories yesterday…too much most likely. I ate too late and then wasn’t starving at dinner. Gotta focus on slow steady weight loss and good habits.😏
3/10: 141.8 (+.8) – There you have it….back to where I started. Exercise box was checked nicely yesterday but the eating box did not go as planned – I let the stress from the news get to me and was hungry waiting for hubs to get home so delved into the dang Black Pepper Triscuits….then added a caloric bowl meal to dinner….should have done a better job adding ingredients. Then had some wine…..It all comes back to choices…..🤔
3/11: 141.6 (-.2) - Well….Dang it. Had my MRI follow up. Femoral head stress fracture, most likely due to bone insufficiency….aka osteopenia/porosis. I have osteopenia. But have been religious with vitamin D/ weight bearing exercise – running, and now strength training, etc. Guess it has not been enough and running more caused it. So I have been told to stop running and even distance walking for 8 weeks. I can slowly cycle, swim, yada yada yada….Gotta come up with a plan. It’s not an uncommon injury for runners. 😒
3/12:141.2 (-.4) A little surprised. As part of my social distancing, wine has reared its ugly head. I will need to really focus on food choices if I am going to survive 8 weeks without major cardio options and I also really need to rethink what I am eating for bone health.
3/13: 140.8 (-.4) Happy with this….really feeling the need to stress eat and drink. Son is in NYC and there are rumors of a full quarantine and he needs to stay and work. I am not that worried about him getting the virus….just the isolating feeling. What a mess this all is. Stay safe people and wash your hands. 😍

03/09 – 126.0 – Still bouncing around, a little higher than I would like to be but I am where I am because of my choices. It has been so hard to find the motivation and discipline lately, and from the comments it seems like several of us are there.
03/10 – 127.2 – Not sure if my scale is off or if I am really bouncing around this much lately. I know some of it is ovulation bloat, sodium, bad choices, but there has been a lot of bounce up and down. Got my lunch with me today, so working on avoiding the temptations and getting back on track.
03/11 – 126.6 – Back on track yesterday and have the same planned for today.

03/08 - 361.0 - A surprising little bounce back. Also, I realized my heartrate was too high while I was exercising (cardio vs. fat burn). Now I'm using my TickrFit to live monitor my heartrate.
03/09 - 363.0 - The time change really screwed me up over the weekend. Well... the weekend is over and it's time to get back to it.
03/10 - 362.2 - There we go, but in the right direction again. Sill using the eliptical, but keeping the heartrate between 100 to 112 (70% of my max). Gonna try some kettlebell later.
03/11 - 362.0 - Still going down. I'd like to see sub-360 before the end of this round. This might be my first plateau. I've just gotta persevere.
03/12 - 361.0 - And the beat goes on. Went to the gym (Planet Fitness) this morning and the place was very empty. Coronavirus anyone? I take a wipe in with me to use before I use the eliptical, then use their wipes at the end. When you've got a senior parent (82 y.o. mom) with respiratory problems, you take precautions.
03/13 - 360.5 - I tried the scale @ Planet Fitness this morning just before coming home and using my own. It showed me 2.6 lbs. heavier. The trend down continues. And an interview on Monday, so hopefully...

03/08 194.6 slow change, I’ll take it.
03/09 194.8
03/10 195.4 blech. No good reason for this, I was green for calories and had a good run. I have felt like I’m fighting a cold, though, so maybe I’m retaining water.
03/11 194.4 Ok, that’s more like it. Still very slow going but in the right direction.
03/12 194.4 Based on eating and exercise I think I “deserve” better than this...but at least it didn’t go up!
03/13 193.2 Patience wins the day, there’s the drop. May this continue! Have been eating well under calorie limit and pounding water. Also 2 walks yesterday.

I indulged a bit yesterday. I’d been craving chocolate cake for more than a week, so I baked a single-layer double chocolate cake and glazed it with dark chocolate. It’s so rich, a tiny bit did the trick! I took half to my neighbor and there’s a piece left for DH. And I’m satisfied!

Okay, that’s good.

I was a bit mopey yesterday about all the cancellations, including a class I was scheduled to teach next week on “Planting for Pollinators” and a couple of writing classes I have planned for late spring/summer, but this morning I’m feeling perkier and have decided it’s a good time to launch the online classes I’ve thought of teaching for a couple of years. So I’ve started that process and feel much more focused and less snacky. Stay healthy, everyone!

@Sophi_allheart I say it every challenge round - it takes 2-3 days for my food to be reflected on the scale. The exception is if I overeat carbs. I think they cause water retention for me.
About posting-my phone has “DONE “ at the top and “Done” above the keyboard and “Post reply” under the reply box. Only hit Post reply. Done removes the keyboard and DONE closes the thread and your message is lost. I try to never hit the D words! LOL2 -
Round 107, 24th Round for Me
39, male, 5'8
Highest weight: 386.6 lbs (1/1/2019)
R107 start weight: 272.0 lbs (3/7/2020)
R107 goal weight: 270.0 lbs
Long term goal weight: 186.6 lbs
R107 weight change: +0.6 lbs
Total weight loss: 114.0 lbs
Day/Weight/Comment
Sunday, 3/08: 271.0 lbs (-1.0) … A great way to start off a round and the third day in a row with 1+ lb loss on the scale. All this extra activity is really starting to pay off. I wound up going out on my bike instead of running today. I rode all the way around our local lake, something I had thought about doing last fall but wasn’t quite ready for. | Bicycling: 17 miles | 14,612 steps |
Monday, 3/09: 270.0 lbs (-1.0) … Another new low, hitting my goal for this round on the second day! Let’s see if I can hold onto it for the next eight. Ran this morning and had my best pace yet at 12:00/mi averaged over 2.08 miles. No afternoon walk as I have a weekly weight loss group meeting thing at work on Mondays. Going to the gym after work to lift. | Running: C25k W7D1 | Lifting: Starting Strength workout A | 14,329 steps |
Tuesday, 3/10: 272.4 lbs (+2.4) … Up a bit, but it’s likely not too severe of a gain in actuality. I made the mistake of weighing myself after my run yesterday morning and I had sweated out a lot of water weight during it. I struggle with not weighing myself after a workout sometimes -- it’s nice seeing those lower numbers, ha. I should really be more consistent about weighing after waking up and *before* working out so I don’t see such large fluctuations all the time. | Rest Day | 10,986 steps |
Wednesday, 3/11: 273.1 lbs (+0.7) … I think my scale’s batteries were dying this morning. It measured me at 275, then 277, then 273.1 twice in a row after replacing the batteries. This makes my numbers for the past week or two suspect… so I have no idea if this is a gain or a loss in reality. | Running: C25k W7D2, Swimming | 18,823 steps |
Thursday, 3/12: 272.5 lbs (-0.6) … Had a pretty good day yesterday. Ran in the morning, had a nice long walk with my wife at lunch, and then swam with my wife and daughter in the evening. That was the first time I’ve swum in public in about two years, or swum shirtless in public probably eight years. I think I’ve finally got over my self-consciousness about how I look enough to do that regularly. | Lifting: Starting Strength workout B | 13,330 steps |
Friday, 3/13: 272.6 lbs (+0.1) … Yesterday went pretty well. Lifted in the morning before work and had a nice walk at lunchtime. I was pretty exhausted by the end of the day and wound up going to bed pretty early. Didn’t get my run in this morning before work as planned as it was pouring out and a little too cold for me to want to brave the rain. Planning on running tonight after work at some point. | Running: C25k W7D3 |

@bearly63 I believe the world has gone MAD! Did you know there was a swine flu pandemic in 2009-10? I seem to have completely missed that!
@musicsax I think the fact that I was a “late in life baby” May have changed my perspective. Mom was 37 and Dad was almost 45 when I was born. My dad always said it kept them young. I remember being quite surprised when I learned how young some of my classmates’ parents were. Tomorrow, 3/14, would be my dad’s 115th birthday.3 -

590 calories left over - interesting to keep track of this, I should have lost 2 pounds last round instead of gaining by these "green" numbers.
Wednesday, 3/11: 155.3 - Almost back to Round 106 EW, it would be nice to get back to Round 105 EW and beyond : - ) Measuring 10 days at a time is such a good way to do it!

Female, 5' 7"
Age 52
Central Ohio
Background: Had a 40 lb. weight loss (228 lbs to 188 lbs) from June 2014 to June 2015. Added fruit to the low carb plan, hit a long plateau and stopped "dieting" and tracking in March 2016. Fast forward 4 years.. 30 lbs gained back. Ready to get back on track.
Round Starting Weight: 211.0 lbs
Round Goal Weight: 208.0 lbs
Ultimate Goal Weight: 150.0 lbs
Sunday, 3/08: 211.0/ Beginning of Week 2 and down 7 lbs from 217.
Monday, 3/09: 211.8/ Slight gain. Body may be stabilizing after losing too rapidly in the first week. Possibly muscle gain. 🤷
Tuesday, 3/10: 210.8/ Excited to have found a local cafe with a drive thru with healthy food.
Wednesday, 3/11: 211/ Need to step up the water.
Thursday, 3/12: 211/ My weight isn't budging despite hitting steps and calorie goal. Adjusted my round goal weight to losing 3 pounds instead of 5.
Friday, 3/13: 210/ Finally some progress! I've been consistently under my caloric goals and started C25K yesterday. (It kicked my butt.) I may need to repeat days several times before moving up. I think not doing that before is why I've tried and failed so many times.

*&!$% ..... #^&%! .... Coronavirus has now entered my state of Michigan here in the US. The Governor has closed all public schools effective today, until at least April 6th. It is still cold and icy outside and the school is where I walk everyday. No malls, big box stores in my area. Not even sidewalks. Most roads still dirt roads and very very icy. This really stinks! I'm going to have to figure out what I can do in this small cabin living room that I have until the weather and roads improve! This is definitely a hard blow to my plan!5

03/07 …..200.1….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
03/08 …..201.0 ….. The exact correct food, the exact wrong quantity. I worked up quite an appetite cleaning out the shed next door. More boxes to go through today. Also I was booked out last night in the cabins so I am going to clean 75% of them today and the rest tomorrow so I can finish the shed project and stay caught up on the cabin laundry. An unusually beautiful day here. However, I don’t think I have been quite this tired in YEARS. Clock change really got me.
03/09 …..200.2 ….. Sunday is tourist cabin cleaning day. I did 75% of them and it’s laundry. The other 25% will be done today. School closed so no walking. Temps better outside but still too much ice so I didn’t risk it, especially when I already fell pretty hard last week. (no lasting injuries, thank Goodness). Worked on shed cleaning and burning again also. Grabbed at convenient food all day but have some pretty good and healthy choices in the house so not a total disaster. Overall, 71 Carbs & 1261 calories. I slept well last night but not enough water. I’ll work on that today. I’m getting in lots of steps & miles and good calorie burn so I just need to tighten my belt another notch.
03/10 …..199.8 ….. I thought I would have a HUGE WHOOSHING drop today because I really did great yesterday. But no TMI probably didn’t help. There is such conflicting information on whether “what time” you eat your meals makes a difference or if calories are just calories in a 24 hour period, no matter what. I’m curious because I read a lot of posts in many challenges about late meals. My last meal of the day is always about 2:00 A.M. I am usually asleep by 4:00 A.M. and get in the 4.5 to 5.5 hour range of sleep per night. My last meal is planned on purpose now to keep my blood sugars level (stop the severe drops) and to also prevent binge eating triggered by hunger. Yesterday I walked over 21,000 steps, over 9 miles, burned over 3200 calories. I ate 1383 calories and 32 carbs with both being in my perfect range. All of it was healthy food. My water intake was over 65 oz. Come on Whoosh! Any thoughts, anyone, on the timing of our meals?
03/11 …..199.8 ….. The drops in weight are leveling off apparently. Today I have taken a self-imposed rest day from practically everything. I am working hard at maintaining my diet but doing very little movement/exercise or work. I just need a mental break from all the “projects”. I hope the rest of the night goes as well as it has today in regards to my food plan. I’m just tired.
03/12 …..199.8 ….. 3 days running on the weight but all is well. Staying on course with eating plan. No walking or major exercise yesterday. A much lower step count but accomplished a few things at home, though I seriously tried not to be responsible for much of anything. I just needed some rest from responsibility to EVERYTHING. I’m afraid it was constantly interrupted and so I don’t feel I got what I needed, but I’ll try again another day. It’s hard to both live and work at home (my home sits on the same property as my motel and cabins that rent nightly). Staying the course.
03/13 …..200.2 ….. A small indiscretion leads to a gain as easy as 1+1=2. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this out, but sometimes I’m just downright stupid! I am totally bummed about the news last night that all the schools are closed. There goes my walking! I’m keeping fingers crossed for good weather soon, but for the past five years it has snowed into April and May (with a few nicer days here and there). Last April our biggest snow was 10” overnight. If it weren’t for all my kids and grandkids living here I would be somewhere else! I stuck to diet yesterday except for one cupcake. I walked at the school (not knowing it would be the last time for awhile!). I’m going to try to stay positive and not let this news derail me or my plans. Stay strong Donna. Stay strong!

I've been faithfully working out, eating Keto (slightly lower fat/sodium/cholesterol keto as per a dr) and even watching calories and I seem to be well within range to lose 1.5 lbs per week but it hasn't been budging. So I'm thinking maybe I'm not as consistent as I believe and am hoping this challenge will keep me on track.
03/11 185 👇 (-1.0) ok I know a number on a scale shouldn't affect my mood so much (because it WILL go up and down) but I am PUMPED that things are falling. Had a weigh in at my metabolic dr yesterday and hes concerned I had stalled for awhile. Has started talking about meds (which I would like to avoid if possible). We agreed to give it a month and see where things are going. Thing is that my diet and workouts have been on point for 2/3 weeks and I was hoping to start seeing movement (it usually takes that long for me). So I *think* its begun and I really really want to stick with it this time.
03/12 184.6 👇 (-0.4) 👍👍

Round 107 - March 8 to 17
Female, 5’, 67 years. SW – 165.8, GW – 164 something, UGW – 140.
Goals: continue with 12 hr. IF, see if I can complete my tracking every day and get to the gym 3x a week and not eat back the cals. Getting some exercise the non-gym days would be a great bonus.
Day/Weight/Comment
03/08 – 166.2 Did not count this as my start weight as it seemed like a blip up for no reason – except weighing 1 ½ hrs. earlier thanks to time change and getting up earlier on Sundays.
03/09 – 165.8 Stuck to IF last night but did not chart. Sticking to it tonight as Mondays are usually my downfall.
03/10 – 165 – Despite my resolve had a snack last night but kept it small and a healthy choice. NSV went to bed at a decent hour even though my body still is on old time.
03/11 – 164.8 – Back to the beginning of the last round. Anything below this feels like some progress. IF – 13 hrs. Did not track, need a new battery for my scale.
03/12- 164.8
03/13 – 164.6 – IF – 13 hrs. Did not track, but did get a new battery for my scale. Big push on finishing painting the bedroom as we are getting company next week. Managed not to stress snack in the evening though and got to see my little reward on the scale.

03/08 259.4 That was a lovely number to see this morning, I’m hopeful this is the start of a trend this round. It’s also nearly all of the gain from last round. I knew most of it had to be water.
03/09 257.8 That’s all of the gain from the last two rounds now gone and I’m back to the weight from the end of round 104. I’m still up a few pounds from my last previous low, and I don’t know if I’ll see new lows this round, but it’s possible that I might in a round or two at worst. I’m just so happy to be back on track food wise.
03/10 256.6 I wasn’t expecting the big drops to continue, but I’ll happily take it. I’m not that far from my previous low now and if I get another drop I might even reach it this round.
03/11 257.0 There’s my body going wait I wanted some of that water. It’s okay I’m still very happy with where I am.
03/12 256.2 Tom decided to arrive a week early. On the plus side I was so stir-crazy yesterday that I decided to join my husband on a walk. I had to use my cane, and I didn’t walk quickly, but my knee tolerated it for the most part. I don’t think I’m up for more than one of those in a day yet, but it’s a start and a sign that the knee is healing up nicely. I just need to be careful not to push it too fast.
03/13 255.8 I walked a little more yesterday, okay a lot more yesterday. I might have slightly over pushed, but I am so happy to be moving again because it really got me down to be sedentary over the last couple of weeks. It’s really weird thinking back because I used to hate even walking so much and now I hate just sitting around.

Some interesting info. on how Covid-19 spreads coming from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the U. of Minnesota.
http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/03/study-highlights-ease-spread-covid-19-viruses
It seems that it can spread by simply breathing the same air as infected people, who may only have picked it up a few days previously but are breathing out tons of virus into the room. That explains why so many things are being cancelled.
A longer interview (about the first 1/2 hr. of the video) with the head of CIDRAP is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw
The more I know about something, the less I stress out about it. You just do what you need to do. If you're not one of those people, just ignore. Sorry about the swearing in the video.3 -

03/08: 173.2 New Low!
03/09: 173.7 My new low didn't last very long LOL. It's my husband's fault ha! He made soft pretzels. Just kidding - I asked him to make them BUT I didn't have to eat two! I could be up just from a normal fluctuation when I'm settling into a new weight but most likely too many carbs/salt. Since my calories were only 1250 and 670 were pretzels, it didn't leave much room for eating healthy food . I rowed too so shouldn't add any 'real' weight and should be down again in a few days IF I keep my paws off the pretzels.
03/10: DNW - Could not bring myself to weigh today - too many carbs/salt. I did walk, and drank lots of water. I had 1303 calories but, again, can't be happy about that since pretzels were half of that and took away from good healthy calories. When I feel in control, I fool myself into thinking I can control myself with sugar/white flour, thus asking my husband to make soft pretzels (oh, no worries, I can just eat 1/2 of one - wrong! ) I did stop myself from an all-out binge the past 2 days and that IS a NSV. They're all gone now, thank goodness! Stocked back up on vegies, fruit and chicken so looking forward to a good healthy day!

General goal is to maintain below 150, and trend slowly downward to 145.
The downward trend is a bit slow for my liking, but at least it's is still downward.
Looking forward:
- March: I need to focus on getting back to where I was pre-Christmas
- 2020: Goal is to stabilise weight around 145
- Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
- Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available
- Cut down on eating between meals
Back Story:2018:2020
My goal was to get down below 160, to allow me to enjoy the indulgences of holidays and celebrations.
2019:
I exceeded that and have been below 150 for most of the last 2 months.
In 2018, I put on 10 lbs over the last 2 months of the year.
In 2019, I consistently lost weight since the end of July. I put on about 4lbs over the Christmas break, but was still below my original 2019 goal.
That's a WIN in my book!
Focus: maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.
