How to get focus in hard times

Hi my friends. I'm from Ecuador and specifically Guayaquil where things are not looking good regarding Coronavirus. I have been able to keep a balanced diet but I'm exercising less because I don't have the drive and I'm feeling depressed. Please feel free to add me, I need some cheering up 😢. Just to update how the situation here we are not aloud to go out. We have restricted time out just to buy groceries. Getting to the supermarkets is hard because the long waiting lines. Well I think the situation here is not that different from the rest of the world.

It is hard. We've been in quarantine since late February and I haven't been outside my house since March 29. Adding to the stress about corona is the stress and grind of being inside the house all day. I never realized how very important some simple things are that normally fly under the radar, like just going to Starbucks (closed), hanging out with a friend (chatting online is no substitute) and sharing a few bourbons (liquor stores = closed), or just ... getting out of the damn house LOL On my last trip out of the house on 3/29, I went for a walk around the neighborhood and was passing people in masks, gloves, eye protection, and a few in moonwalk outfits - it was weird. Very depressing. It felt like a bad science fiction movie.

I am dealing with all this two-fold. We had a weight-gain week in the first week but then decided you can either be locked in the house fat, or in shape. So we got back on our diets, though there have been some fits and starts and it didn't help at all that we stocked up on so many cookies and chips and other garbage for quarantine, though at this point most of it's been eaten and now it's gone. We've been good the last few weeks and I feel good about that. I think eating right can really help with the depression and anxiety.

But the main thing is exercise. There are many ways to get exercise even in the smallest spaces. I've discovered this over the last month LOL I've learned how incredibly helpful exercise is in these times. I'm pretty much exercising all day to burn off stress, stay away from food, and keep my mind clear and less depressed, and it is helping a lot. I recommend just really trying to exercise a lot, even if you're feeling less drive. It should help.

Hang in there. Someday this will be over.

Where are you located where such a "crime" was allowed to take place?

Hugs @verocpaz I’ve been reading about your town, and the unfortunate family that were blamed for the virus. My heart goes out to them and all of you. It sounds like you have it much worse than we do.

There are some yoga instructors locally who are doing free classes online, and also offering calming breathing techniques.

    Something like that might help?

I find it very soothing to completely concentrate on breath, and on yoga flows. The nice thing about Facebook and YouTube classes is that you can find any level (beginner to advanced) and no one can see you, if that bothers you. There’s also classes via Zoom, and you can choose if the instructor sees you (to offer advice) or not.

Pilates is also very driven by oral instructions and has the same effect on me. It takes me out of myself to totally concentrate on following the instructions.

But there’s nothing like the “yoga glow” you get at the end of a nice yoga class.

I'm wondering too! Liquor stores are considered essential businesses in my locale.

@verocpaz, I'm so sorry to hear what your city is going through! (Just looked up some info.) 💕💕 💕

Northern Virginia, outside DC. Liquor stores are state-managed enterprises called "ABC" stores here, so they're always subject to government edicts and whims of one sort or another. The one nearby and accessible to me closed last week. A day or two ago they announced 12 more would be shut in the area. I assume they'll be back at some point. But yeah, seems kind of a "crime" to take away the liquor at a time like this. My wife says just go to the grocery store and get some wine, but I lack some of the moonwalk PPE needed to fit in over there.

    Weird times.
