I got a radical hysterectomy in Nov 2019, and ever since then I have gained weight and it seems like nothing I do helps me to lose weight. I'm on .5 mg estradiol for hrt, and I'm wondering if that would cause weight gain. Anyone else have this issue?

I feel for you. I'm so sorry you needed this surgury. Many issues which places one in need of this radical surgury are hormonally based. I wonder if the estradiol being an oestrogen suport might be part of the issue if not the total cause. From much of what I've read its the lack/lower levels of progesterone whch cause many cyclical issues, heavy/clotting, longer cycles, pcos and more. It seems the first cycles one has as a teen are probably supported well enough but progesterone can go low that early on. One is supposed to ovulate then progesterone clicks in to bring on the progress to the period unless pregnancy happens, low progesterone can contribute to miscarriage too. Our bodies are so interesting, the way they should work and the ways they don't conform.

Possibly you should look for a differnt doctor. When i went back to mine, she said, "you've had a radical hysterectomy, what do you expect". This was the exact opposit of the advice given before i left the ward. It took years for me to finally get my act together, it took going outside the NHS, UK here and going alternative.

I suggest you read around your current and past symptoms and diagnosis and see what you can decipher for yourself. There are free access medical papers written by hospitals/docotrs and on-line doctors, probably look into their qualifications, what ever you do, keep away from, "anyones blogs", the information there is probably not helpful, though I've found clues for a differnt search. All the very best, do what is right for you and take great care.

I did not need medication after my radical. I checked with my sister who's a nurse about estradiol. She said a small weight gain could be a side effect of the medication but it would level off quickly. It appears you are a new member of MFP. I recommend you fill in the profile, goals, etc and begin logging honestly every bit of food that passes over your lips and every drop of water you drink. Do this for a couple of weeks ... you might find a measure of control that perhaps you don't feel now. I know after I got my diagnosis and after my surgery (because of the restrictions), I felt I had little control over anything.

So, my coping mechanism became emotional eating. After several months, I found myself in my doctor's office sobbing because I couldn't even open jars due to lack of arm muscle. She put me on an antidepressant and gave me modified restrictions. Yea! And, here I am many years later trying to lose 100+ lbs. This time I'm doing something differently by joining a couple of groups. The one I participate in the most is opening registration. Here's the info in case you'd be interested ---
