Motivation, the truth.

I think for me.. rather than words of encouragement from strangers.. what has helped motivate me on this website is seeing people who have lost the amount I need to lose.. as well as seeing people that have or have had the same food issues that I do..
I do agree with you to an extent.. but I also think people know that it's a personal journey.. that you can't always rely on others to keep you motivated and you have to be able to remind yourself why your making the changes that you're making..
However people vary in what helps keep them motivated.. and if some people make significant progress because of a constant influx of supportive comments, that progress could be what keeps them motivated later when they don't have that constant support system..0 -
Well you've motivated me to comment, which is a rare thing for me on a forum... so well done for that!
and "Yes MrsMX" it is a very personal journey & one where you get to know a lot more about yourself in the process

I have added people to my friend list to help motivate each other but I'd have to say its an extremely small percentage that keep it a 2 way street and work with each other ... Not to mention those that cant open a diary to friends or its open and the foods all carbs or breads and they wont help weight loss in any way, shape or form ... See its personal ...
we all decide which road to take and how far to go )x
haha I barely log, only when i eat something new i'll log it. But for the most part I just eat the same thing everyday. saves time logging.
I'm sure its very nice to have such a good understanding of calories and your intake ...
for some (myself included) this is a lifestyle change! one day it will just be the way it is ... Lol0 -
People approach things differently. Some forge ahead boldly...relying on no one. Some need occasional encouragement to stay on track. Some socialize all the time and make whatever they're doing into an opportunity to interact with others. Everyone has different needs and motivations. That has nothing to do with their commitment to what they're doing, and each can be successful . I think motivation is a pretty individual thing...and your style may not fitsomeone else.
WTF, OP? "Hey brah, you'll fail 'coz you always need support." WTF, man? Quit judging, yo.
Some people need constant motivation, some don't. Good for you if you're part of the latter, but don't push your mindset with the others.0 -
Well said! I am motivated. I would ask are why are people so judgemental? It has nothing to do with oneself to seek a friend who is on a similar path and so understands your goals.
I have had this debate before with a sports scientist who said why don't people who need to lose weight just control themselves etc etc. (so simply put) . Again a man's view. I say nothing is simple there is no doubt everything comes from within but it's not a bad thing to seek support and for me this post was neither encouraging or positive.
Hence I am proud to say I am seeking female friends for support and motivation!!!!0 -

I've been here for a week and I've noticed something off. Many of you seek constant motivation you need from everyone around you.
Why is that?
Some people just do. Why do people need to be told they are loved when they know they are? Why do people need to attend church every Sunday when they already believe in God? Why do people like to be told they're doing a good job at work when they can look at their progress and see it for themselves? People just do.0 -

I'm sure we all have different personal choices in food as well as motivation and missions ...
What suits one does not always suit the other ..

Haha now you're just making me blush
but on a serious note, I really wish you success in this journey.
Just know that sacrifices will be needed to be made, the work is not easy, you will to constantly push yourself.
But the feeling of success after each time is worth it.
Don't need to impress others, as long as you're happy with yourself.
Thanks for that - some wise words there - good luck to you too :-)0 -
I've been here for a week and I've noticed something off.
People just do.
My point of this thread was to merely show you maybe you don't need all that. That you have it in you to accomplish these things all on your own. People attend church for many reasons...it's not a simple you go to church just because you believe in god...
People like being told their doing a good job, because a lot of people are fueled by extrinsic factors like those, especially in more feminine workplaces.
People don't just do things, there is a reason for everything.
Was debating on replying to that, simply because that statement(not you) is so narrow minded.
I will repeat again, since a lot of you seemed to have missed some points. Maybe you should re-read.
I do not intend to put anyone down, that is not the purpose of this thread. There is a meaning behind that wall of text which i do clearly define and then several more times.
In case you're too lazy to find it.
I merely wished for the people that are dependent on the constant support of others, to find it in themselves for that motivation they need. It is the most powerful motivation you need, the one that is most important and that
everyone has in them
You just have to believe in yourself as cheesy as that sounds. Its true.
Edit: as for cab10...etc
Your comment is geared so hard towards feminists that I'm just not going to respond with anything but this..
"male view" lol0 -
Never though of it this way... guilty of requesting motivation (on this site)!
So true and well said.0 -

I think i understand where the OP is coming from, I started losing weight and trying to get healthy as i noticed other people in my group of friends were losing weight and I wanted to do the same and when they stopped going to the gym I stopped and when they stopped eating healthy I stopped, I relied way too much on the motivation I got from my friends and it took me a while to realise that I was doing this.
Took me a while to realise that I can't control the actions of my friends I can only control mine so when I lack motivation I look within now as I found that works better for me personally, also being an introvert probably helped as well.0 -
Glad some people are understanding it0
