Less Alcohol - MAY 2020 - One Day at a Time

As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
My goal used to be 8AF days per month, I am pretty happy to try to cruise between 16-20 so as not to put too much pressure on myself. If I get more that is just gravy.
I managed 22AF days somehow in April!!
Thanks @MissMay for keeping us going : - )
Friday May 01 - AF - I had to do the 6 minute wait a few times to get there. Planned drinks tomorrow.
Saturday May 02 - 3 drinks
Sunday May 03 - AF
Monday May 04 - AF - Planning on stringing a few AF days together, I have Webinars this week which I want to be sharp for. My Mint is coming up, so it is only about a month away or less for Mojito season so I will take as many AF days as I can right now so that I can do that a few times with a girlfriend or two staying 6 feet away from each other : - )
3AF day out of 4 days so far5 -
Welcome @marcgilr1
3/4 for me. Work drinks this afternoon but I have an evil workout planned for tomorrow morning so I think I'll skip the alcohol and just chat.7 -
Early Cinco de Mayo check-in: OK, 3 homemade margaritas (goal was 2). Could have been worse. Wishing everyone a good & safe week9

Good morning or evening which ever the case maybe. WELCOME to our new participants. No matter your LESS drinking goals you can lean on us for support, as well as you giving us pointers and tips too!
Had my set limit goal of two alcoholic beverages last night. The absolute worst prosecco I have ever tasted in my life. It may have gone bad now that I really think about it. Hubby bought it at a cheapo store up the road. There was like an inch of dust on it. LOL YEAH...but I drank it anyhow, mixed with my watermelon kombucha. Glad that bottle is out of the house.
Did not have to tell myself stop at TWO. Since it tasted so yucky. I was glad to stop at two.
It is Cinco de Mayo as @doxmum says. No alcoholic drinks for me tonight. But I will be making homemade Quesadillas to chime in on what would have been a reason to go socialize at a tavern tonight.

2/4 AF days so far. Glad I didn’t have the glass of wine I contemplated last night. Not because it’s “bad” to have it, but because we had pork roll (aka Taylor Ham) with breakfast. It’s so salty and delicious, but today I’m definitely retaining water from it as a result! A glass of wine would have made the water retention worse! I hate that the scale creeps up with certain foods, but such is life. Mercifully it goes away after a day or so.8

10 AF days in a row. I have a virtual happy hour tonight. I have a lot of great mocktail ingredients so planning to make one of those.
Still not planning to be completely AF but it does feel good to commit to waiting my desire out and using strategies to decrease my desire and see where this takes me.
4/4 AF days for May8 -
3 AF days/4 days...no Cinco de Mayo drinks here....I have a scheduled weigh-in on Thursday and need to stay super-strict to hit my weight loss goals.
Hi @Doxmum : last year 2 cans of Rose bubbles was my thing since it was 11% alcohol. Well it started with 1 can then it progressed to 2. I loved the taste then moved on to a whole bottle of Bravino fizzy rose (favorite, sold in Target) it was just too drinkable for me so I avoid it now, but I do miss it's crispiness and lightness and elegance and it was just refreshing to drink on a hot day.....aah....maybe one on Memorial Day, we'll see.....5 -
No Cinco de Mayo drinks here, either....
Last night we decided to host a Mother's Day brunch. We will have our max capacity of 10 people. Tonight will be kitchen cleaning in prep for the event. Fun times
For those of you having margs - ENJOY!!!8 -
Alrightly!! One AF day down!! Keeping it going through the week, even though it's Cinco de Mayo today.

On last month's thread I mentioned that my military daughter is having horrible difficulty finding childcare due to COVID and now COVID fall out.
It has been confirmed... Mimi will be moving in to be a nanny until suitable childcare can be found! This will be an interesting twist on my weight loss and AF. I am sure I will cherish this time with my new grandson9 -
Work drinks navigated without alcohol.
I'm currently waiting for a wine delivery though - I've found a local wine merchant from the Spanish island my dad lives on. I can't visit but I can get some imported drinks and pretend I'm over there. The delivery should last me a month or two at the rate I get through stuff but it will be a test of my moderation to have it all delivered in one go rather than buying a bottle of wine each Friday.9 -
@loveychar definitely lonely down here. After 7 days AF bought a bottle of wine with groceries yesterday. Had two glasses last night and, you know what, it wasn't that great! I hated the way I feel this morning. I'm much prefer waking up completely clear headed and knowing that I didn't drink. I think I'm going to try for the whole month of May to just drink on Sundays. So that would be 4 drinking days and 26 without. Wish me luck! Just need to stay busy and engaged in this foreign place.9

Feliz Cinco de Frio !! Currently 43 degrees here.
My mint bed is 6-8 inches high...3 x 8. Using last year's dried crop for steaming mint tea today. Thawing out by the woodstove after a couple hours of weedeating. Catpuccino is delicately nibbling the grass clippings off my socks. Yeah, too pooped to even take them off.
But, didn't wine it up last night, so I had enough energy to do yard work this morning ! Score one for "moderation".
Hola to Everybody !!10 -
Surprised myself by working hard in the yard the past few days and not feeling I had to cap it off with a few beers 🍺 . So that’s a win for me!
Tonight is our first staff social so alcohol is on the agenda. My goal is to alternate each drink with water to slow down my consumption. 2-3 glasses of wine 🍷 in a couple hours of chatting. PLUS, I must plan a sensible snack. Ideas anyone?
Thank you for giving me a place to think about this ahead of time and write this down.9 -

For as long as I remember generally I have always avoided drinking on weekdays in favour of adopting a healthy diet/exercise program. Occasionally I drink one or two small glasses of Wine on a Wednesday with dinner but not very often. If I ever have some wine on a Wednesday I will factor it in on the weekends to balance it out. Weekends though I still find myself still drinking up to 14 units in the space of two days which is the government guideline max. (I measure and track my drinks using my phone ap) Since lockdown started I have found myself over analysing everything about my lifestyle from my sleep to my nutritional intake and alcohol intake. Has anyone else found themselves becoming paranoid about this kind of thing? I am also just curious on others options on what is an unhealthy relationship with booze. Is it bad I look forward to relaxing with a nice home cooked meal and a couple of glasses of wine every Friday and Saturday? Bearing in mind I am not drinking more than the government guideline units? Myself and my OH have always enjoyed eating nice things and a few drinks on weekends for quite some time its something we have always looked forward to. But now I am questioning if its a good or a bad thing x
I think drinking habits are worth examining if you drink from habit, boredom or some other emotional issue. It’s also worth examining if you cannot stop at the limit you set for yourself, and if it is affecting your relationships, sleep, or body negatively. If none of those things are happening, by all means enjoy a nice glass of wine with a nice meal, it’s ok to look forward to your treat!6 -
Almost grabbed wine as I cooked dinner because I was annoyed at one of my computer programs not working. But, I stopped myself and had seltzer& cranberry instead. Good thing too, because our Luxardo cherries came in the mail, and my son made me a delicious Old Fashioned! So I got to enjoy the drink I really wanted, and nursed it until well after dinner. Win win!
2/5 AF days.8 -

Tuesday May 05 - AF - I kind of lost track of what day it was until I typed the date in just now! I have been laid off for just over a month now, and I am starting to wonder how I ever had time to go to work. Obviously Cinquo de Mayo, I might celebrate on Thursday night instead with some Skinny Girl Margarita that I have in the fridge and Nachos or something. I needed to be AF today and tomorrow to have a sharp brain for my Webinars.

Well, it might be over already by the time that I am reading this. Cheese and good grain crackers are always good with wine. Hope that you had fun.5 -
I found a sparkling brut that's only 10% Etoh. Had one can to try it out. Too good, too good. @dawnbgethealthy You're doing great in your moderation journey! I hope to be there someday. You and everyone else on this forum are my role models. AF 1/55

4 AF days/5 days...I don't think about drinking now unless it's been a few weeks of AF, it doesn't cross my mind. It took me about a year to feel this way. And, after 3 months, I now no longer crave daily sweets or think about buying chocolate. I suppose my hormones and blood sugar have maybe stabilized, that's all I can think of. I suppose this is about getting mind and body in sync and keeping it there.11

Addendum to yesterday. I had a beer with DH yesterday afternoon. My primary goal this month was to keep accountable, to myself and to the forum. @globalhiker Thank you for the words of encouragement. I'm waiting - perhaps not so patiently - for the time when "I don't think about drinking."7

Virtual happy hour went great! No one asked what I was drinking and I didn’t bring it up. I just had seltzer water. My plan was to make a mocktail but I ran out of time. Had fun laughing and talking and wasn’t worried about what I said. Felt good waking up this morning.
5/5 AF days

One mixed drink after dinner. It’s taking me so long to actually consume it, I am not feeling the effects!
I WILL feel the effects of the delicious pastrami Reuben (and pickles )I had for dinner tonight! So delicious. So much salt. So much bloating tomorrow! Such a high number on the scale! Worth every scrumptious bite.7 -

Wednesday May 06 - AF - If I didn't have "stuff" in the morning tomorrow I would have caved and had some drinks today. Cold, rainy, couldn't go for a walk or play with any of my outdoor projects.

5 AF days/6 days....I honestly can't wait until life goes back to normal! I should be looking for work or figure out my next career move but I keep obsessing over travel planning....a three week day hiking trip in Austria and Switzerland sounds magical right now compared to the 105 degree, ozone polluted day with high pollen that I am facing in AZ.....I need to take a deep breath and be patient....7

I'll give it a "shot" (see what I did there?? )
Goal for the remainder of May - AF from 5pm Sunday night to 6pm Friday night. And I will decrease drinking over the weekend. I'm hoping this will help me increase performance of my early morning workouts before the workday starts, better sleep!!10 -
My Cinco de Mayo with coworkers went well. Just two beers. I was late making dinner, so I just had my yellow squash and black beans while we all laughed and chatted. No need for “extra snacks”.
I also had a nice surprise yesterday...lost 20 pounds! I like the MFP post they create for us at milestones. Made me realize I’ve been on this journey for days and days and days ... and I’m getting there. Feeling better and looking better!!12 -
AF day #2 yesterday!! A small, but still note worthly accomplishment. Tonight will also be a AF night.10

Good things about the world being locked down....
Noon time hanging out 3-4 days a week as Middle Daughter takes a "walking lunch break" from her remote job to stroll down the alley to see Mama'.
The impossibly clear blue sunny skies in a city that's usually dim with pollution.
Discovering "InstaCart"...
Waving to neighbors that rarely appear except when hurrying "somewhere", and now want to to stop & chat...6 feet away.
Being able to spend the day and do chores in a sleep shirt...ain't nobody knockin' on the door.
Discovering the precise day & time that my state is most likely to allow an online wine order.
Bad things about being locked down ?? I simply don't have the time to think about them.

Opening a small bottle of Chianti, pouring "moderate" 3 ounce glasses to sip with my rare burger & avocado. Yep. it's after 9 pm, but, as I often say, "I'm retired". Maybe I'm also back in Miami, on Cuban time ??
Tomorrow promises to be rainy and below freezing, so might as well enjoy this warmish day to it's fullest.
Since "real" libraries are closed I'm e-booking my way through the Jo Nesbo series about an alcoholic Norwegian policeman. Finding distressing similarities here and there...Perhaps lessons to be learned.
May...6 AF\1 Chianti
