Usually my bike commute would put me at 25-50km/week (depending on how often I chicken out and take the car) . But I've been in home office for 7 weeks now. I've kept up with running, but done zero cycling. That has to change!
I would like to try to cycle at least 100km this month. Which isn't much, but I need an incentive to get started again.
Also, I moved to a new city this winter. I had a 30km loop at my old place that I would do some weekends for fun, but I don't know any good cycling routes in the new area yet. Beginning of March I tried out one route that I found posted on the city's website, but it had lots of sand and gravel trails, which was hell on my roadbike. So I will have to do some exploring as well to find out where to cycle for fun.1 -
I'm in for May. Not sure of my target yet but I will create one soon.2

Thank you. Before the at home thing, my side gig was cat sitting. I would ride my bike to each visit and it seems they were all on the 3rd floor. I didn't log my miles.. and now there are no cat visits.

First 'official' ride for this year was done 2 days ago - 22 miles.
Goal for the month is 100 miles.2 -
Finally managed my first ride since the beginning of March!
It's been so long, I first had to re-inflate my tires (the rear one actually had a tiny puncture). And then I left without my sunglasses and forgot to start my GPS watch until 3-4km into the ride. So the actual distance is probably close to 15km, but I'll just count the recorded distance of 10.1km. On a stupid route with too many traffic lights and a gravelly stretch where I tried to avoid the road... I need to find a better route, I think!

I'm in! I used to cycle quite a bit, but then...well...life! I moved states last year & since there is no room in the apt for my bikes, they have both been in the storage unit. Last week I brought my road bike home, unfortunately it is out on the balcony, but covered in a bike cover, and the weather has been, for the most part, warming up. Should be easier for me to ride with the "Sports Car" here in easy reach.

COVID-19 lockdown has had a couple of unexpected bonuses for me.....
Roads are so quiet it's like stepping back in time to when people didn't drive their cars everywhere!
I'm able to ride on roads I would normally avoid as the traffic is so light.
Other bonus is that as my son can't do his preferred sports (cricket & soccer) he has borrowed one of my bikes and we've done some great rides together (but suitably apart...).
Oh to be 28 again when you adapt to new exercise very quickly but it's great payback for me getting and staying fit that at 60 I can still do strenuous "father & son" sports/activities. He's talking of aiming for a big ride later in the year so fingers crossed this isn't a passing fad. A Century together would be great!
Downsides of the social distancing is that I will only do home to home rides so my distance is limited by the range I can do on two bottles.
My two planned closed roads Centuries this year have both been cancelled so I'm training without long term goals.
Aiming for 500 miles, at least one Gran Fondo and 25,000' of climbing in May.3 -
@sijomial Yes, the empty roads are definitely a bonus. And it's great that your son is joining you for some rides now!
I was thinking less kind thoughts about the situation today - and about my own lazyness:
This evening I went for a ride. Got ready inside my apartment, including putting on my gloves, since the temperatures dropped a lot overnight. Went down to the cellar to get my bike, and when I was there, I realized that now my glove touched two door handles in the common part of the building, and proper virus paranoia indicated that my glove might now be contaminated. And I shouldn't touch my face with it. But I have to admit I do that occasionally while riding, to wipe my nose or to remove hair from my face... After some considerations, I decided it was not quite cold enough to walk four flights of stairs up to my apartment to get other gloves, and went for my ride with just one glove. My right hand got a bit chilly... And I kept arguing with myself for the next 15 minutes if the decision was totally stupid or the correct thing to do.
Oh, and since I spent all day in home office, I was just wearing my regular glasses instead of contact lenses. I don't have prescription sunglasses, wearing my bike glasses on top of the regular glasses didn't work, and I didn't feel like putting in the contact lenses just for an hour of cycling. Which meant I was blinded by the setting sun during half of my ride
Still managed to go out to the little lake I wanted to visit. Since all benches have been removed ("to slow down the spread of COVID-19") and it was getting cold, I didn't spend much time there, but just took a photo, then turned around and rode back home. Next time I go for a ride, I will be smarter about gloves and glasses

At least one 100km ride – done, but want to make it a more regular thing. (Managed it on just two bottles with no stops but was pretty dry by the end).
500 miles for the month – well ahead of schedule with 306 miles.
25,000’ of climbing – behind schedule with about 43% done. Climbing is my weakest area, least enjoyable and the goal I always struggle to hit. Need to target some big hills……2 -

Just a short ride for me this week. Stupid reason - I had mapped out a 25km route, but shortly after the start I had to do some emergency braking to avoid a car that came out of a side street without looking. I stopped in time, but hit my heel / achilles tendon with the pedal (put my foot down before I was at a complete standstill). It really hurt afterwards, so a few minutes later I decided to go back home. Two days later, the spot is still a bit swollen, and I have a nice purple bruise...
Instead I spent the evening taking apart an ancient bike. I have no idea how old it is, I guess between 30-40 years. I bought it for20 Euro to leave it at work, for going from one side of the campus to the other. It's a bit large for me, but I figured I could solve that by adjusting the handlebar. Wasn't as easy as I expected, given the state of the screws. I also found out the headset is rather dilapidated, I think I might have to replace that. And the previous owner didn't want to waste money on handlebar tape, so he superglued plumbing isolation around the handlebars and wrapped electric tape around afterwards. What a mess!
I don't want to spend a lot of money on this bike, but taking it completely apart might be a nice exercise in bike repairs. Better than practicing on my good bike

Hit my 500 mile target for May but having to work hard to keep my climbing goal on target - 74% done.
Set aside a day to head into the Surrey Hills AONB only for my bike to pick that day to refuse to go into bottom gear.
Climb I was on is about a 5 minute slog in bottom gear mostly between 8 and 12% before levelling out bit.
Really quite hateful with at least three false summits just to demoralise you, but a very good hill for training.
Traffic volume seems to be picking up again sadly but weather has been amazingly good for riding where I live, too warm for me to manage any more home to home 100km rides.3 -
Set out on a bike ride this morning, planned 7-10 miles. However, didn't realize my watch was THAT low on battery! Just over 8 miles into the ride, I looked down & watch was stone cold dead. Start my phone, finish up my ride, get back to my car. Unclip my left foot and try to unclip my right and the shoe got stuck in the clip as my body started leaning...and fat girl go boom! Fitting end to what was a decent ride only to find out that I didn't even make a full 9 miles! Grrr.

Lockdown and having more free time working from home motivated me to get on my bike for the first time in about 8 years.
Compared to other posts here my mileage is really poor, I did 50.5 miles in April and so far 37 miles in May, longest ride is 15 miles but I still feel a sense of achievement given I'm overweight, have not been in the saddle for years and am riding a cheap heavy hybrid which has been in the shed for 8 years or so.
I think my biggest achievement is not giving up despite a puncture on my second outing and an inner tube failing on another ride (probably due to age, it had perished by the valve). Would have been so easy to just put the bike away and forget about it but I bought a few cheap tools, puncture kit, tubes and watched a few you tube videos to refresh my memory (previous time I fixed a puncture was about 35 years ago) and got back on the road.

125km for me today - out into the Yorkshire Dales for the first time in a while. Usually when I do that loop I drive out and start a bit closer but today I rode from home (and back).
Takes me to 1168.4km for the month so far - that's a mix of outside (about 70%) and zwift (about 30%). Not having much else to do at weekends has really helped my cycling mileage!5
