Whew. It's 230om here. Party over. Clean up finished. I'm exhausted.
I went for a 5k run this morning before finishing the cake - thank goodness. I held off snacking till about 1130. Have no idea how much I ate. Too much is probably the answer.
Oh well final cake porn pics (I know @Tramboman can't resist well photographed porn 😜)
I'm really really happy how the cake came out. All that watching Man About Cake has paid off (kids are obsessed with him. Can't say I'm not either lol) and it tasted fantastic.10 -
@Avidkeo that is awesome! Well done!2

Sunny, mid 60s F and very humid. After I loosened up the run went pretty well. It helped to have my correct running shoes on. Yesterday I tried a pair of retired shoes, and it felt like I had bricks strapped to my feet.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders
2020 races:
9-19 Race for the Parks 5k, Hudson, OH
10-11 Haunted Hustle 5k, Aurora, OH4 -
Who knew online-strangers-become-friends would be such a great support group? ♥ I love you all so much.
@Camaramandy648 Spotify is the best! I literally cannot stand Pandora anymore. I used to use it a lot, and then my husband introduced me to Spotify and I've never looked back 😂
@quilteryoyo I'm sorry to hear about your stress ♥ Being mentally exhausted is the worst. I hope and pray you can find some way to energize yourself. Maybe Mom's cooking will be good for that. I know my mom's usually is. Also, the Spotify for Dummies thing. I just use the most basic functions of the app, so I don't know for sure if there is a way to move them onto your actual phone. But if you download a playlist, it will download the songs within the app. And then you can go into the app, even with your data turned off, and listen from there like you would normally.5 -

I have not used Spotify for years. Pandora used to be cool, but that was a long time ago. I currently have a free trial of Apple Music which is great as they have high-quality music files but does not seem to do well with "play me more music like..." - I pay for Amazon Music so that I can be like "Alexa play Skillet Monster" and that works well. Annoyingly though since my wife, my son, and I all use the same account and we all have different tastes in music asking her to play songs based on what I like does not work as well as it could.
I guess I will have to look into Spotify again.

Lovely party @avidkeo! I would love a slice of that cake. I'm more of a cake orderer than baker though.
@quilteryoyo calling it a rest week sounds good. Hope you will feel recovered and revived by some comfort food tomorrow.

It was almost like old times meeting up with friends for a Saturday morning run. A beautiful morning but getting hot already and 95% humidity. I have a lot of yard and house cleaning to do this weekend so I didn't run as long as I might have normally. I'm planning to run a 12k race course tomorrow so I'll have two medium runs rather than a real long run this week.

I use spotify. I do pay for premium so I am not sure what is for pay and what isn't, and I do have unlimited data. But I believe when you download the songs they don't use data, but you might double check that. But I believe I can listen to some of my playlists when I am in an area with no internet available.1
-
Thanks everyone. I'm going to play around with Spotify this weekend and probably call that my workout. Maybe it will help me mentally check out and let my mind rest a little. If I get frustrated, I'll stop and just read a good book.
@katharmonic 95% humidity sounds just awful. You did great getting in 6.3 miles.
That reminded me. Yesterday, when I was driving home I had the GPS on on my phone because the app I have warns me of hazards/police/vehicles stopped on the interstate. For some reason it told me that my exit was 6.2 miles ahead. My first thought was, "Oh. 10K. I could run that."5 -

Passed my total mileage from last month. 7 miles is the furtherest I’ve run this year and it was hard but felt good when it was done! It feels really good to be back in training mode.6 -
@Shortgirlrunning Great run! Are you following any training program? Are you training for a half? I'm try to train for a 10K.0
-
@ABabilonia - I’m training for a half in (hopefully) September! I’m using Hal Higdon’s novice 1 half marathon training plan. I’ve used his plans in the past and always enjoy them.2

@quilteryoyo I've tried Spotify a few times, you have to have the premium version to download to your phone/watch. Premium also allows you to play any song you like, skip songs multiple songs in a play list, and probably a lot more. Oh it's advert free.
I paid for 3 months of premium yesterday cause we used it for music at the party and I didn't want adverts. Other than the occasional use though, I'm not that bit a fan. On long trips I'll put the Disney play list on for the kids, and we play a game, "guess the movie".
I tried it on my watch but HATED it. Granted I was trying podcasts, but it was so annoying. It would always reset to the beginning of the track if I stopped it half way through a run. And syncing was a nightmare.2 -

78 of 100 miles
Skip and I ran today in a race, like with people. It was a 5K/10K trail race (I did the 5 she did the 10) at the local state park. They did a great job at keeping us separated, we started in groups of 25 leaving every 10 minutes, first group at 7:00, we had the 8:30 slot. It was good we got to sleep in a bit. About 15 seconds before the start they told the “people who normally place etc to move forward” because the start was going to be more narrow, we know this trail really well and I told Skip go to the front when you hit the creek the drop and back up is going to slow people you need to be ahead – yeah I’m a bit competitive ha ha. They asked people not to come too early, not to bring people if you weren’t running, not to hang around etc. They didn’t posted results or give out awards there, but they were running live on their website, packet pick up was out in a field so they could control the length of the line, you had to sign a health waiver. There was hand sanitizer everywhere (even at aid stations), they gave you a gaiter if you wanted to wear it (no thanks). Aid stations had bottled water only (they usually have snacks too), the finish line had bottled water only, medals and water was handed to you at the end by a volunteer in a mask and gloves. After I was done I stood near the finish in one spot I found confusing when I got there where to go, so I was able to see Skip sprinting out of the woods, proud momma moment. I was actually very happy with my race, my time was 47 and change for just over 3.2 the elevation wasn’t much since they consider the 5K a beginner race. I had to laugh that I ran a faster there than I have been on the road, so figure. The 10K has a big climb followed by another that was the one spot that slowed Skip down, oh yeah and falling twice ha ha, her legs and both arms were filthy when she got back. She ran it in 1:05.05 winning first place in her 20-29 age group and the second place girl was 1:05:20 so close. Of course because of the staggered start you had no idea where anyone was. Some guys passed me and turns out there started earlier and were running the 10K. I was pretty much alone running, which was fine because I run that course all the time alone and it’s cool with me. I finished in the lower half of my age group, but was just happy to be in a race, with my friends and Skip and I always love seeing her in her element. One of the local high school XC/T&F coaches was there, of course we know him though it wasn’t here high school, he asked her to start coming to his practices to help out. He said it would give her folks closer to her age to get her runs in with and give him some adult eyes out there too. She told him she would call him, though I know she’s hard pressed to work with another school than the one she graduated from, it’s actually the second school that’s asked her to help this summer. Anyway fun morning.
TL:DR
Skip and I ran a trail race today, I ran the 5K and had so much fun, she ran the 10K and won her age group.
Love their medals and here’s a picture for you Rocket City Marathon folks
70 miles is awesome @ABabilonia the heat has been real for sure
@HonuNui I’m virtually running 380 miles from our town to Gulf Shores by 9/7, I’m halfway done, we started second week of May
I got 3 months of Amazon music for free for I’ve been listening to that. I like it so far.
@quilteryoyo “I can run that” that is so funny. When I moved to a new office I told a friend it’s like 10 miles from home (which for some reason is 1,000 to people her) and she said that far, I said I could run to work with no problem LOL
@Shortgirlrunning awesome on the 7 miles

@skippygirlsmom Yeah for a real race and that you both had fun. Congratulations to Skip on her AG win!
Thanks everyone for the help/ideas about Spotify. I was able to deduce that you DO have to have premium in order to download the playlist and, thereby, listen without internet or using data. They have a 3 month free trial, so I signed up for that. I should know by then if I like it/use it enough to pay for it. Interestingly enough, the free trial is over the day after what would have been my HM, had it not been canceled.

Congrats to Skip and you, too, mom!!!1
