My main goal is to focus on the type of food I eat, how much I eat and how often I eat, rather than how much I weigh. Losing weight will be an added bonus. I’m looking for a permanent lifestyle change.

Joining in for this round🙂.
Slow progress recently but glad that I have stopped the upward trend again. Have lost then re-gained weight so many times over the years, and need to control the self-sabotage.

I’m taking a round of cephalexin and feel puffy. Water retention isn’t listed as a side effect, but something is causing this. Phooey. Anyway, I’m off for a walk on the rivergreenway and have an afternoon of garden work planned. One of these days I’ll have a breakthrough. I’m a bit depressed and disgusted with myself about this and the news. Maybe the river and trees will help. Have a good Saturday.

Hello, everyone. In case anyone is new here, my name is Mike, I am 60, married to my best friend for the last 38 years. I am losing weight because I suddenly realized that I am no longer 150 pounds or 25 years old.... surely dieting will fix both of these. As near as I can tell, I am the best looking bald guy on this thread. In all seriousness, I am an insulin dependent T-2 diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and my wife says my toes are weird looking. I need to lose a bunch of weight if I want to live a normal lifespan, with both feet attached and both kidneys still intact. It's that simple. I am choosing to live.
You have your own reasons for finding your way here.... whatever they are, we want you to reach your goals. So enjoy this group, we are all very supportive. Come here daily. Post often, tells us about your successes and your frustrations and your food temptations, even the bad stuff about those twinkies hidden in your glove compartment. Participate. Remember, we need your support as much as you need ours.
My goals for the round -- lose 2 pounds; continue to log food and post every day; focus on snacking control at night. Also, continue to log steps -- I decided on May 18 to walk a million steps before the end of July (70 days.) I am currently a full day off the pace due to a minor foot injury 10 days ago.

06/06 229.4; steps 8264, fell asleep sitting up on the sofa instead of taking a walk. I think we were watching the Great British Baking Show when I crashed. It's always about food with me! Anyway, will try to start making up the lost steps this week. Foot hasn't healed which is a potential problem for a diabetic but it is slowly moving in the right direction. I am looking forward to this round, hope to leave the 230s far in the rear view mirror this month.

JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS ~|~ Round 116 (round 48 for me ) I'm in for another round – just keep going! As always; thank you @GrandmaJackie, such a champion particularly in these challenging times, helping to keep some stability in our lives, for setting up these challenges.
Female age 62 5' 4”
Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and have gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then; I don't want to gain any more, but would like to get back to my goal weight – I'm working at it – it's a permanent way of life !
Goal – get back to 133 for this round.... - aim to get back to & stick with good habits: be mindful of what I eat & drink, keep walking, no binges, really want to keep this 10 days binge free! Keep calm, wash hands, be kind and follow all latest Government guidelines for C-19 virus. Be able to met up with my beloved family.End of round 69 134.2 lbsKeep calm – we're all in this together!

Day/Weight/Comment
06/06 134.8 – 10.36 miles walked yesterday. So lucky to stay at this weight this morning; had a bad day yesterday, gave up logging by tea time when I had reached 2838 calories consumed. Sorry to have to say this (yet) again, but why do I self destruct?? I know what it does to me, but it seems I am a food addict & once I get into a feeding frenzy I can't stop. (Sigh) I am so disappointed with myself on these days. I'm going to try this 10 day to be at/under calories every day. I mean it's just 10 days and as it is fastly approachung tea time now, then day 1 is almost done!! I need to be strong/sensible.

@sklaw31 The pressure of setting an amount to lose is the reason I never did that! My goal was to be lighter at the end of each round. Even if it was tenths I’d a pound.
@eyesopennow Love the meme out chips! I was craving nachos so had DH add them to the grocery order a couple of weeks ago. 6 chips (11g) were a serving! I weighed the pieces and made my nachos. The next night I made 2 servings. The chips weren’t that great and I told him he could eat them or throw them away. I can’t believe how my taste buds have changed.4 -
@eyesopennow I love your idea of a mini about me section! I used the idea too

About me: I love learning about food and everything about it; from the way it acts in the body to learning to cook a new recipe. I went to school for nutrition (got my bachelor's) but I didn’t become an RD because it didn’t feel like the path for me. I guess I wanted to keep it as more of an interest instead of a career. I then went into public health to further my education and I currently help medically complex patients by connecting them with community resources to improve their health and life. I enjoy helping family and friends when they ask for advice related to food and nutrition. Plus, it helps me brush up on what I spent so much time learning!
I’m here because when I’m not paying attention to what I eat, I start to gain and feel uncomfortable in my body. For me that results in frustration and a lot of other emotions. It has also increased my cholesterol in the past (It’s good now as far as I know thanks to diet and exercise). I have a family history of diabetes, heart disease, and all that fun stuff. So, I want to prevent that for myself by getting a hold of my food habits now.
I’m always open to conversation about food and nutrition, so feel to reach out to me!
06/06 120.0 This makes sense because I did an intense workout yesterday and I have some soreness today. So, it’s just the water retention as my muscles heal.
I just made really yummy summer rolls with brown rice spring roll wrappers, cilantro, leftover ground turkey [seasoned with ginger, garlic, fish sauce, soy sauce and lime juice], yellow bell pepper, shredded cabbage and baby greens. Then, I dipped them in a peanut sauce I made with 1 tbs peanut butter, ½ tbs rice vinegar, 2-3 tsps coconut aminos, 1 tsp toasted sesame oil, dash of garlic powder, ¼ tsp honey and 1 tsp grated ginger (I used the frozen ginger cubes). I could legit just eat the sauce and be a happy camper but mixed with the summer rolls it was really good too.
I plan on having a bit of a rest day for my Saturday and just enjoy lounging around. I’ll eventually do some chores, but we’ll see how I feel about that. Happy weekend all!

It’s so great to see newbies and returnees! @eyesopennow has written a wonderful lead-in! Thank you, Mike!!
@eyesopennow Do you have coconut oil? Either refined or unrefined are available in the baking section at Walmart. It is miraculous on wounds! Apply to the wound itself or to the bandage. My cat is a biter/scratcher and ripped a flap of skin loose on my arm. I cleaned it and covered it this way (waterproof bandage) and left it for 3 days. The flap reattached! As a diabetic, you should redo the band daily to make sure it is improving. I’m not a medical professional but I am a reader and love researching.5 -

I'm in! Thank you, @GrandmaJackie!
70 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
We used to walk 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year. Then I had hip surgery March 10th. Recovery is slow. Sure do want to be back doing 5 miles a day!
The Shelter in Place has everyone freaked. We need to remain calm and respectful of each other.

Looking forward:
I'm just too danged cussed to let this thing knock me back, and ruin all the effort I have put in to get here. I am stepping up my routine, and taking control. Sheltering in place means I can fully concentrate on getting in my exercise, and preparing healthy food.
- June: focus on maintaining and increasing my progress
- 2020: Goal is to stabilise weight around 145
- Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
- Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available
- Cut down on eating between meals by keeping busy
Never give up! Never give in!

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Round 116
Month/Day: Weight / Comment
06/06: 213.8 / I always weigh myself in the morning. Not bad for a Saturday morning. I have been known to have my discipline-wheels fall off on a Friday night. In fact weekends in general are a problem for me.

Learned a lot about my weight tendencies during my first challenge 10 days ago. This will be my last challenge before vacation so I'm going big. Goal is to lose at least 5# by increasing exercise and maintaining MFP goal calories. I actually think I can lose more as the last two days of the last challenge served me up a couple pounds back, but who needs that kind of pressure!?
SW: 178.6
6/6-176.8 up for 24 hours with a family medical emergency that had a happy enough ending for my sweet momma. Not the way to lose water weight!
