New Year Finish Line - Weight Loss Challenge

So many resolutions begin on Jan. 1 -- how about one that starts now and ends there? I want to reach 155 lbs or less between now and then. I'm taking it super slow, eating reasonably healthy, and exercising.

The plan:

* Weigh in and post as frequently as you like. I'm aiming for just about every day. I'm also going to track a 7-day moving average to smooth out daily ups and downs.
* Share what works and what doesn't.
* Be positive and encouraging.

So here goes:

Today is 8/20/20
Starting weight: 167.4
Today's weight: 167.4
Seven-day moving average: N/A
Days until 1/1/21: 134
Goal weight: 155

OK, let's see who gets on board. It's possible this is a challenge of 1, and that's fine. Wish me/us luck!

I'm in. I'm not sure how much I can lose in 133 days. 13.1 kg hardcore down to 8.7 kg slightly easier. My current weight is about 93.8 kg so I'm looking at 80.7-85.1 kg. I'll probably post daily ideally.

    Thanks for being here, @threewins.

Another reason this challenge is important to me: Looking back over the years, fall and winter have been the seasons where I plateau or, worse, creep up in weight. That's all tied up with Seasonal Affective Disorder. I really don't like these seasons. This is one way I'm trying to claim them back for myself.

My biggest challenge within the challenge: Cutting out late-night junk food (late for me is past 7 pm). If I only do that, I'm 80% of the way there.

    Today is 8/21/20
    Starting weight: 167.4
    Today's weight: 167.8
    Seven-day moving average: N/A
    Days until 1/1/21: 133
    Goal weight: 155

Thanks for starting the challenge. I'll join you. I'm hoping to reach 174 pounds (and be overweight instead of obese) by December 20 and then maintain that until January 1. That's 24.2 pounds or just over 6 pounds a month which is a little less than the pace I've been on since May. Usually, I weigh in daily, but sometimes I get a little too obsessed, and then I have to back off a bit, so I might post daily or I might post intermittently depending on what my brain is doing.

    Original Start Weight: 234 pounds
Challenge Start Weight (August 21): 198.2 pounds
    Challenge Goal Weight: 174 pounds
    Weight Today: 198.2 pounds

Welcome @fitby44! Post at whatever interval you like. I'm aiming for every day, but I'm sure I'll skip a few here and there.

    I hope you're feeling better, @threewins.

I got out of town for the first time in ages yesterday, and it was great. I walked several miles around a couple of shopping centers. And still squeezed in a run in the evening.

    Today is 8/23/20
    Starting weight: 167.4
    Today's weight: 167
    Seven-day moving average: N/A
    Days until 1/1/21: 131 (I think I skipped a day.)
    Goal weight: 155

(I don't know what's going on with the formatting in these posts.)

I'm going low carb from now on, not counting energy but I'll count and post carbohydrates. Not sure how long I will go low carb.

Good News: Today will be 10 days straight of no snack binges. Calories have been on point each day, so the carb-enhanced water weight should be mostly shed at this point. I think I could realistically and safely get to sub-150 if I keep it up.

Good job, @zamphir66 . I lose better when I limit carbs but I'm just not in the lower carb headspace now.

    Challenge Start Weight: 198.2
    Weight Today: 197.8
    Challenge Goal Weight: 174

I'm currently eating more carbs and calories since I tend to be more active in the late summer through the fall. I aim for 1,000 calorie deficits Monday-Friday and then eat at maintenance on weekends.

    It’s 4 months till Christmas I’ve lost 27.8 lbs.
since May 6th 2020 found mfp july 25.
My ambitious goal lose another 27lbs. But realistically-15 to -20. I just got back from a week of cycling eating 3 miles a day in restaurants. Lots of bar food. Going to wait till Thursday to weigh myself.
I try not to weigh myself everyday. Officially it’s once a week sometimes twice.

Hi new to this challenge. I like the idea of tracking and being accountable. I have been weighing myself only once a week. By weighing more frequently it should adjust my results.

Good morning friends! I'm feeling some good progress toward our goals coming on - how about you?

Today I'm trying to remember consistency is my aim. When I had to take a hard look at myself I saw that I tend to vacillate between almost manic perfectionism (usually for about 3-6 weeks) and totally unrestrained, destructive eating (for about 3-6 months). Today I will accept the grace to fail sometimes and keep going anyway!

I agree! Sometimes I have to step back and not obsess quite so much. I really like the Just Give Me 10 Days Challenge, but will need to take periodic breaks from it because weighing so frequently can sometimes feed my obsessions a little too much. So, I need to psych myself out a bit at times and not weigh so often. It's why this challenge plus Just Give Me 10 Days is my current strategy for not getting derailed.

I've lost and regained the same 30-35 pounds four times in the last six years. I am now near my lowest point since 2014 and I am not going to let myself regain it this time. It gets very tiresome restarting at my highest weight and then having to start all over. Not going to let it happen this time. Not. Not.

Just joined and just saw this challenge. For me, 6 1/2 pounds by Jan. 1. That doesn’t sound like a lot but I am short so that is at least one size down. Weight today 124.5, goal 118.
