Does a personal trainer have to look in absolute top-shape?

Here's what I mean: After watching multiple exercise videos, including Jillian Michaels, I have noticed that the female trainers have so much muscle... Once I get into shape, I still want a perfectly feminine figure. I'm not expecting to make six figures a year by making workout videos. My question is this: Can I a female personal trainer still be successful at training (with a speciality in either weight loss or maintaining weight) while still maintaining a slender, feminine figure?
Does this question make sense?
Thanks!

All depends on what the client base thinks. My personal opinion is a female personal trainer (or male for that matter) doesn't have to be ripped. Just be in a decent shape. More importantly, know your stuff. Know how to help your clients reach their goals. Know how to teach proper form, etc...0

Muscle IS feminine.0
-
So... you essentially saying Jillian Michaels isn't feminine. This is going to totally go well...0
-
No. Look at their clients before and afters to determine their worth.0
-
Can only see it you not being successful being a personal trainer if you was overweight as your clients would not take you seriously enough to acknowledge what you are trying to teach them regardless if you are right or wrong.0

In....to learn more about what body type is feminine.0

This is gonna go well.0

Girls with muscles are beautiful....and IN!

OP, I suspect this is not going to go the way you anticipate...0

Do you don't find her feminine?!?

So... more body shaming for women that have muscles. Super. :indifferent:
please - enlighten us as to what is feminine in your narrow mind.0 -
Muscles are sexy0
-
So... you don't want to be in top shape because you want to look like a woman?
Seems legit.0 -

Yes. If you can't do it for yourself, how can anyone believe that you can help them do it?0

1. Jillian Micheals is perfectly feminine.
2. If you prefer smaller muscles and/or slightly higher body fat (22% vs. 18%), just say that. It's a preference not a definition of what is feminine and what is not.
3. Yes. You can be a trainer with smaller muscles and 22% body fat.0 -
I think they should at least look like they go to the gym0

There is a trainer at my gym who is a woman who is heavier. While I've never trained with her directly, I've observed a spin class she teaches a couple times (while I was running laps), and she substitute taught one of my bootcamp classes. I have no doubt that she is incredibly fit, knowledgeable, and could likely kick my butt at most things from what I've seen. However, if I were meeting her for the first time, I wouldn't know those things... so her appearance would likely make me wonder. I guess what I'm saying is, getting clients after meeting them only once may be a little harder if you don't look like the stereotypical trainer. However, if people get to know you first (through classes or what have you), then they will understand how much know and how hard you can push, and they will likely still want to train with you.0

Never wanted popcorn more in my life.0 -
Yes. Just be good at what you do and provide value.
ETA: But maybe work on not isolating women who are muscular by implying that they aren't 'feminine'. A good teacher is empowering.0 -
If I ever hire someone and pay $$$, I better aspire to look like them. So I'd expect them to look like Jillian or Jamie Eason.0
-
prediction: thread derails because implication is made that muscles do not = feminine.
Answer to question: no you dont need to be ripped, unless you are trying to cater toward women who want to get ripped.
fit is fine for most people.
you would likely attract people who want to look like you.0 -
Muscles on women are HOT.
Would love a women like Andreia Brazier any day of the week.
