Anyone got a Garmin Fenix 6pro?
I have a Vivoactive 4s and I LOVE it. Absolutely love it. But the battery kinda sux and I'm charging it every 3 days or so.
I see the Fenix 6 Pro has music (a must for me) and a longer battery. Everything else is kinda a bonus. Looking around, I see that the Fenix has among the best battery though the GPS is only 6hrs so only 1 longer than the Vivoactive.
Thoughts?
I went from Vivoactive 3 to Fenix 5s. I love the Fenix but it took a bit to get used to buttons over touch screen. I love all the different options the Fenix has (trail run, hike) that Vivoactive didn't have. Plus additional data points.
The battery from regular use does seem to last longer but gps usage drains it. More so on trails than in my neighborhood. I kept my Vivoactive wear it for the couple hours it takes to charge my Fenix.
I don't have music because I always take my phone with me.2 -

@kgirlhart - the tops of your feet? I think you can modify the position of your feet so you're not putting so much pressure on them in the pose.
@Avidkeo congratulations on your achievement in maintaining for three years! You're perma-fit now! (My running coach uses that term, I like it)

Trying to gear up to go to run group in a little while. Not feeling at all motivated but I know I'll be happy to get it done. I'm maybe dreading going to the grocery store after that more though.

Way to go @Avidkeo !! Definitely an accomplishment. I like the term perma-fit, too.
I have a vivoactive 4s and really only charge it about once a week (I put it on the charger for the 10-15 mins I'm in the shower and then about once a week it needs a charge for an hour or 2), but I don't use the music on it. Seems like that might be a major battery drain.
@katharmonic I get that pain too. It gets better when I'm doing yoga regularly and working that tightness out. No matter how much yoga I do, the lunge pose you were describing just hurts. My kneecap sits weirdly on the ground and then when I lift up my foot it slides and pops. I just stopped doing that pose. My anatomy doesn't work well with it. I need to start doing yoga again. hope everyone is doing well. hugs to all who need it. high fives for accomplishments and prs and and other individual accomplishments.
so i decided that i need some help. and i hired a running coach. he seems to fit my needs and perspective. he understands i'm not so worried about speed but recreating the habit. my depression usually leans more toward apathy. crying bouts would be gladly experienced. running doesn't relieve my symptoms but it does get me moving. me moving also gets me doing household chores and the less chaos in my home, the better i feel.
anywho....
Speed Demon and i got out and did our first run. nice easy active warm ups, and ideally a nice easy run. but i didn't eat because it was just a couple of miles. and it was 40 degrees colder than the last time i did an actual run. not just a run/hike. i didn't really enjoy it but it happened. we wore our noxgear. She was a hit with drivers at lights. they loved her at the stoplights/signs. even more if there was christmas lights too
next run is friday or sunday.7 -

Nice run @mbaker566. People always comment on my dog and I in our Noxgear as well. I get lots of (nice) yells from cars at stoplights and at least I assume that's what they are talking about.

Tempo run accomplished! It was colder than I expected out there. The temps are in the low 40s but it was kind of damp out and very windy. I thought I was overdressed wearing my jacket but I was happy I had it. I normally can't go to this group during the day and would go tonight at 6:30 but due to the holiday schedule I could make it - and I'm glad to get it done because I think it's going to be colder and rainy tonight. We did a 10 minute warmup and then a 20-minute tempo run, then 4 sprints and a 10 minute cooldown. I was not feeling optimistic about the tempo because of how sore I still am from Monday's workouts but I did better than I expected. I started out kind of conservatively but kicked it up a bit in the second half after feeling more warmed up.
I did not go to the grocery store after, so I still need to do that later. I will attempt to go to the less crazy one and run in and get the necessities (coffee!) and call it good enough. Fortunately I'm all stocked up on wine so that's really all I need for my family zoom thanksgiving plans6 -

Yesterday, I took dad to the VA to get bloodwork for next week's doctor appointment and to have a hearing exam so he can get new hearing aids. He had taken one of his old ones in to be repaired in August. They were to fix it then mail it back. We never received it. Lost in the mail. The first appointment they had was yesterday, so he's only had one hearing aid for 3 months and it will be another month before these are ready. It's tough, but I'm glad he is getting new ones. Hopefully he'll be able to hear better.It is hard when parents can't hear well, but can also be comical. The following conversation took place in the car yesterday. Dad sits in the front seat and mom in the back.
Dad: Mom, are you doing okay? (Dad calls my mom, mom. I guess it started when we were kids and he never stopped.)
Mom: What?
Dad: That's good.
I started laughing so hard and told them what they had actually said to each other. Fortunately, they thought it was funny too. You just never know with those two.
It was really, really nice this afternoon - 64°F, cloudy, no wind. So, I made myself get out and do my run on the driveway. I tried to take it easy, except for the last quarter mile. For that, I didn't go all out, but did step it up a bit and managed a pace for that short leg of about 10 min/mile. I keep my HR under 162 for over 75% of the time, so I'm happy with that. I'm really glad at got out there, once I was done.7 -

@quilteryoyo sorry about your dad's hearing aid situation. There are some apps for smartphones if he has one and earphones that he could try to get by temporarily. EarMachine is one but only for iPhone I think.

I only had time for 5.5 miles today. I just couldn't seem to get going this morning. I was looking forward to being able to run a little later tomorrow when it isn't dark. But now I am not sure if I'll run. Yesterday my foot was a little sore in the arch. And today about halfway into the run it started feeling a little achy and it has been kind of achy all day. It doesn't feel like plantar fasciitis. It is more in the middle of the arch. It almost feels like when you step on a rock or something.There is no redness or obvious swelling. So even though I want to run I am thinking it will probably be better to give it a rest.
I haven't had a chance to read through the thread yet so I will try to do that now.
I did get my @pastorvincent medal in the mail today. It looks really good! Thanks so much to the anonymous donor.

@mbaker566 - love the pictures! Speed Demon looks like a little Christmas decoration! Do you have the ones that change color? I hope working with the coach helps and gives you the motivation to get out the door. I know it is so hard there in the middle of the winter when it is so very cold.
I don't use lights since we rarely run in the dark but I get stopped pretty frequently with questions about Hobbes. I had a guy yell at me today, from the trail entrance, so excited to see a Vizsla. He had to rush down to the trail to see him.
@quilteryoyo - That is so funny about the conversation. Makes you wonder how much they really hear each other normally without the hearing aids! I am surprised your dad has to wait so long to get his new ones. I took our elderly friend to get her hearing aids and she got them the 1st day she went into the office. Now we are trying to get them working right and getting her used to them. She and I had to go back 3 times and we finally convinced them that she really didn't need to come each time so I have taken them back 3 times by myself. I think we finally have them working properly and she is adjusting. One thing she really likes is they connect via bluetooth to her phone so when it rings she hears it through her hearing aids. We discovered she was reading lips before she got the hearing aids - she cannot understand us at all with masks on no matter how loud we speak. Take the mask off and she does fine.
Most of the yoga poses that require you to be on your knees with them severely bent make my knees hurt so I don't even attempt to do them. I do regularly do a standing quad stretch but I reach across with the opposite hand and it doesn't seem to hurt my knees as bad.
After doing a lot of research (thank you Dr. Google) I am fairly certain I have high hamstring tendonitis. So I have decided to step back from running at least for a week to see if it improves. I am still walking and will be doing eccentric hamstring strengthening exercises. Interestingly, I was doing some of these already and found they helped. So now I will be doing them more consistently.

I had this a lot when I first started doing some yoga. A few things really helped me with it: using blocks helped a lot more than I thought it would and I still make sure I have them within reach every day; I bought an extra-thick squishy yoga mat, and I fold it over double under my knees for extra padding. Finally, I stopped beating myself up over getting the poses perfect and modified like crazy to something I could do. After probably a year now of following daily yoga sessions of some kind (minus a few very busy days I've had to skip) I'm now at the point where my left knee doesn't bother me any more. Still have to double the mat up under my right knee for that lunge/quad stretch one though!
I'm running. Quite a lot. I've ditched Hal for the time being, but have taken up the habit of basically repeating the last month of the plan I was following. So my goal is to run a HM distance the last weekend of every month, with a cutback week after that. Wonder how long my legs will put up with that...9 -

5k in the nearby forest. The more I run there, the more I'm realizing just how challenging most of those paths are. I was feeling tired today though, and about halfway through, I looked at my watch and realized I'd been hike-walking so much that, if I didn't pick up the pace, I should probably not count this as a run. Surprisingly, I wasn't as tired as I thought and managed to bring the overall pace down a good bit (from 7:59/km to 7:15, so MFP won't accuse me of running in place again). That's within easy-pace range for me. When I got to 5k, I was coming out of the forest and decided to stop the watch and just walk home. My mask (pulled up turtleneck workout shirt) was way too stifling to run.
Yesterday was a short bike ride with one of the kids, in the same forest. I should probably do a longer ride though.
The frost was kinda pretty though. ETA Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans! It's just a normal day here, so we'll be celebrating on Saturday.5 -
@shanaber yes it has lots of settings from solid colors to rotating
I don't mind winter too much. You can always put on more clothes. Ice is the only issue since the indoor track is closed.
I feel like if I ran with Bob I'd get stopped a lot. He's a handsome Doberman10
