Allie: I am glad that you’re tucked in for now. Getting back in gear will happen when the time is right. Naps are a good way to help you heal. I am sure the doctors and nurses who are taking care of you will help you recover and plan for the future. :flowerforyou:

Tina: We watched the parade, too. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

    Rebecca: Happy Tthanksgiving!!!

Fae: You are looking very fine in your skirt, jacket and heels! :star:

Pip: I hope you enjoy Turkey Day with your family. :flowerforyou:

DH cooked Prime Rib for our Thanksgiving dinner. It was yummy. As I mentioned, we watched the Macy’s Parade today. The music performances were excellent. There were no live people on the side lines. The audience was safely home watching on TV. I consider that a very good idea this year. I hope that next year will allow a return to the traditional system that allows people to come in person or watch on TV.

We had a call from our son a short while ago. He plans to call again tomorrow. I look forward to it.

I haven’t had time to read at all today so will have to catch up tomorrow.

A local radio station shared this and I’ve spent the last 10 minutes trying to decide.
    kdfiytbx4d1e.png

My first thought was Little House, but outhouses so no.
The Waltons because Large family and that's always been my not so secret desire, but still some amenities missing.
Family Ties but I would have to put up with Alex.
Maybe the Beverly Hillbillies would be the best one. They had love, a sense of humour, old fashioned values and money to be able to get some nice amenities.

In the end I realized I had put way too much thought into this altogether. 😂😂😂

    Which one would you choose?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you celebrating, I hope you all had a great day.

My test was negative this week too, 2 weeks in a row, hoping for a third next week!
When I texted my daughters today to tell them the result I told them that waiting for that negative is as stressful as waiting for the pregnancy test results was as a teen. The pregnancy tests were not much faster at the time.

Ok I’m really late getting to bed

Family Ties ... because I think Alex and I would get along quite well. :) I think I'd get along with Jennifer too.

I'm leaning towards the Munsters! Yes, the meal might be strange, but there would not be a dull moment! And maybe I'd finally get to meet kitty cat! lol
Machka, Yes, tough to decide which part of normal I miss. I do miss getting together with my girlfriends for our craft afternoons, but other than that, not a whole lot has changed.
Allie, take your time, Barbara is right, one baby step at a time.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US.
I didn't take notes, and once again my memory has failed me..... Well, it is late and I should be in bed, so hope everyone has a great day/evening/night!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

ps, still working on the darn masks! They do work up quick, but too much other stuff has gotten in my way. Silly little things like going to work and cooking meals.... And catching up with you ladies, but that's important stuff! :)

I miss travel, but I've been missing that since 2018.

Other than that, not a whole lot has changed!

I had actually wished for more changes.

More work from home options. I have a vision for offices I'd like to see become a reality but it still seems remote.
More education from home. Again, I've got a vision for that, but it seems to be a bumpy road getting there.
More online shopping and better websites for many businesses.

More efficient technology use. This is improving - I can now attend seminars by zoom at work rather than going in person. That's nice.
More engineering developments/improvements so that we don't need to use our hands as much (for opening doors, using taps, flushing toilets, etc.) and to help keep us together yet apart.
Better mass transportation with engineer-developed distancing features and better ventilation.

More medical developments, especially in terms of a cure for the common cold.
Continued health measures like washing hands, cleaning, and distancing!
The acceptability of staying home when sick. Even just a little bit sick.
    Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning!
Personal hygiene becoming much more important. Hand sanitiser at the doors of every shop.
Develop a culture where it is socially acceptable to maintain some distance between people and where it is socially acceptable to tell people to step back.

    More human-powered transportation.
More, better and wider trails, paths, footpaths, etc. for human-powered transportation.
Spacious, airy, well-ventilated gyms which allow for distancing.
    A greater emphasis on wellness.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"s
    Chose well: 4+ hours cooking
    Bonus:
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, email info to grantwriter, watch STAS Day 18 (go sniff), submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, make cookie batter for when Aunt Elsie’s stove is working, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Sleeping with the Devil, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments
    New Ways November
27: Enjoy new music: that was yesterday, took me 5 tries to find a “Music Choice” channel on TV that I liked.

Joe may be right again. It was a lot of work just so I can enjoy annual day after Thanksgiving white meat turkey sandwich on white balloon bread with best foods mayo. Had it not been for the pandemic, I’d have suggested we go to the only place nearby serving Thanksgiving meals, the casino just past the California border.

This is making me rethink another kitchen lollapalooza. Was looking forward to the annual English toffee, KJ’s adult fudge, Christmas cookie extravaganza, but… with thankfully no parties to attend, no need to bring hostess gifties; postages rates so high discourage mailing to loved ones away; neither Joe nor I need the sweet temptations. Not that I’ll forego the joy entirely, but may scale back significantly. We’ll see.

SuziQ Impressive negotiating skills! The silver lining in the financial stormcloud?
Fae “unscheduled withdrawal” Good thing the banks are closed for the holiday! Cute boots
Allie Brava for your decision to shift your care-giving from others to yourself. Hoping you feel better day by day. ((hugs))
Annie I hear you about roasting turkeys, our breast hit 165 F half an hour sooner than the label predicted, so I let it cook to 170F while finishing off the stuffing, sweet potato casserole, salad and gravy ;) Fortunately came out fine, moist and cooked through.
Rebecca nothing funny about designated pots and burners, just makes efficient sense to me ;)
Rori  family festivus. Holding you and yours in my heart too.
Katla turkey… “a bit overdone is better…” ditto. Really dislike carving and seeing pink near the bone. prime rib, if it goes on sale we’ll have it for Christmas.
Lanette I too am a messy cook and yes it does taste better to me. I do try to clean as I go, as Joe gets stuck with the dishes after.
Tracey my first thought was yours, ‘til you reminded me about the outhouse! Then yes Beverly Hillbillies, Ellie Mae’s menagerie and little Grandma’s spunk and doctorin’… if not her cooking :P
Evelyn the Munsters, hahahaha. Normal things I miss are all the “in”s: line dancing inside, in person church, eating in restaurants, hosting Idaho friend in our home and hugs.
Kate gorgeous socks, but cold comfort when you’d rather be in Spain. ((hugs))
Machka you’ve obviously given much thought to the good changes that have, or could, come from this pandemic. Especially good would be the culture shift to “if you’re even a little sick, STAY HOME!”

Feeling grateful for this thread and all you dear ones. Would be so lonely without you.

    Lighter, lovelies!

Which family? Might as well go with the Beverly Hillbillies. Except for the mansion part, it would pretty much be my family!

I’m exhausted. I always work myself to death on Thanksgiving cooking the traditional stuff. Not only that, but my house is now decorated for Christmas. We never decorate this early, but I was afraid I wouldn’t feel like it after my surgery. My son put up the tree and he and my daughter decorated it. My son-in-law helped with the attic stuff. My husband did the porch and the mailbox. With all of us working together, we had it done in no time. Then my son, bless his ever loving heart, took my parents take-out plates and spent some time with them working on a jigsaw puzzle.

This was my third full week (5 days) of work at my office in a row! :open_mouth:

For most of the year I've worked at home, or I've taken a day off for university or homework or a break.

I have one more full week of work, and then I'm onto 4-day weeks for the next 3 weeks, then a week off, then another 4-day week, one full work week, and 4 more 4-day weeks!! :):):) No point working ALL summer. :)

My husband and I have the Christmas season all sorted.

My grad is on December 18 so we're going out to dinner at the best restaurant in town. That will also be our Christmas dinner.

I'm off for 11 days over Christmas which is wonderful! Christmas Day will be a small dinner at home with just the two of us. I'm hoping it will be a nice enough day for us to enjoy some cycling and maybe time at the beach. We will spend a little bit of time with my husband's sister during those days and if all goes well, we'll see our son and his wife. Otherwise the agenda includes sleep, reading, cycling, walking, and sitting in the sun. :)

This afternoon I set about determining which was the best restaurant in town ... I wanted a formal place, fine dining, and good food.

I soon discovered that Hobart has a different definition of the term "fine dining" than I do.

I'm thinking table cloths, quantities of silverware and that extra spoon you're not quite sure about, wait staff dressed in black and white bringing you hot towels between courses to clean your hands, candles and flowers on the table, etc..

Hobart seems to match the term "fine dining" with terms like "rustic" and "grill" as in ... (imagine Staff Sergeant Luther Rizzo in M*A*S*H talking) ... "They ran half a cow over the grill ... that was real fine dining!"

I've even tried the term "formal dining" and I'm now guessing that means you sit in a chair to eat rather than on a bench, tall stool, or standing.

Nevertheless, I did find one place. One we've been to once before and one which my husband suggested in the first place. He might forget a lot of things, but he knows his city.

    Hello everyone.

Lanette – I have never been a big turkey fan so when my friends and I decided to cancel our tiny celebration I decided Cornish hens would work for me. I love, love, homemade dumplings!

Allie – Yes, you need to get yourself back in gear for yourself. 😊 Rest well and wishing you continue towards a quick recovery.

Rori – I agree with you regarding the holiday and the history thereafter. I do celebrate it because it is the holiday of gratefulness and am mindful of the suffering we, as humans, cause one another. Sending positive thoughts to you.

Annie – Sorry to hear about your parents – I almost sounds like you are going to have to childproof (adult proof – ha) all of the doors with alarms. Big hug to you.

Pip – Oh, homemade tamales! I am sure you and Kirby will be fine as long as you are playing it safe.

Debbie – Oh, cranberry and guava sauce!! I love, love, love guava. Is it a family recipe or is it posted somewhere online? Please share. Sending positive thoughts your FFIL is just under the weather.

Tracey – Oh, your post made me chuckle. I think “The Munsters” would be my choice. Everyone in the family is weird but honest. 😊

Evie – We both picked the same family! I agree there would never be a dull moment.

Kate – Love your display. I agree with your assessment of how things are being handled (everywhere). I think the length of time is getting to many of us.

Rita – This is a long post so spoiling it…..
A dear friend who is a general attorney referred me to her friend who is a bankruptcy attorney. After filling out what I thought was a book on my financial life we had a conference call to discuss my options. After his review he determined I would only qualify for a 100% bankruptcy which basically means paying 100% back along with attorney fees and paying the bankruptcy court so in essence I would owe more claiming bankruptcy.

The attorney then said, you sound like you’re intelligent, just get on the phone with your creditors and negotiate with them. He provided some pointers like saying I do not have enough to pay, I am thinking about bankruptcy, asking what can you do for me, telling them what I could afford, etc. He reviewed the laws with me (each State is different). In FL credit card companies and collection agencies can sue if dept is $10k+. In FL one can simply ignore everything under $10k for unsecured debt and after 7 years it will drop off. But, as soon as you communicate with them the clock starts ticking again.

Personally, I felt I made the debt so I should pay it. Note here, this is a personal decision, and each person has different thoughts and feelings. I will say it took a lot of stamina, I had to brave myself for each call, it was tiring and stressful, but in the long run all of it was worth it to me.
The first step (that book the attorney made me write was worth it) is to log every single creditor, the balance, last payment made, etc., list out every cost of living (rent, medical insurance, car payment, food, utilities) then list out all income prior to making any calls.

If I was able to I would have claimed bankruptcy. It would have been easier and cheaper if I was somewhat insolvent.

So long and longer…..get organized, speak with a good bankruptcy attorney, find out your options, and then go for it. Most decent attorneys will provide a free consultation and it is worth it to call a few.

It took me almost 10 years to get in the horrible shape I was in and I am more than halfway through in two years. If all goes according to plan (ha) I have another year to go and then I am done. If things do not go according to plan it will only be two more years. Considering most bankruptcies (if not 100% cleared) take five years I am still ahead of the curve.

Barbara – I so enjoy the baking and creating of sweet treats to share this time of year too. I am fortunate there are a few neighbors who trust I am masked and gloved while baking so I have been able to keep a little and give away the rest. A couple of secrets the postal person told me a while back…..either use the flat rate boxes because it does not matter how much a package weights (still can be pricey) or request the package be sent using book rates. Book rate packages can take a long time to get where they are going but are less than half the price of the normal rates.

Time for me to fly. It’s a rainy day here so I think I will spend some time cleaning the house and putting away the Thanksgiving decorations. “May” pull out Christmas too. 😊
    Hugs to all,
    SuziQ – SFL

Went down a rabbit hole this morning. :o>:)
Instead of writing I was caught by an email from Tate Gallery. I clicked on the link to custom prints and found the best ever website I've ever seen. Over a thousand prints, any size, any frame, and virtual rooms with any colour walls to see how it looks. I was in heaven! Whoever designed that website deserves a medal. I think they have international delivery.
Unfortunately, we have now bought each other our main Christmas presents, or I would have suggested a picture for our new lounge. How to agree on a picture is, of course, a problem. :p It's a good idea for a future anniversary. Will have to sit down together and be patient. Maybe each make a list first and see if any coincide.
Because I told DH I had bought his present, he began to get anxious over what to get me. I took pity on him and ordered myself some tops that I have had my eye on for months, but thought they were a little pricey for self expenditure. He was delighted and has transferred the money to my account. Hooray! He can wrap them when they arrive. It's a company that I've used often, so I know the quality and sizing.

Off out for a short stroll to the pharmacy to top up on painkillers for my gluteal tendinopathy and then to the deli for veg and fruit.
The other day I made a beef mince curry inorder to use up some sad mushrooms. Of course I forgot to put the mushrooms in. :# So I made a mushroom sauce for seabass the next day. Heaven! :D I'm making the sauce again today for veal escalopes.

:)Which family, I wouldn't want to quarantine with any family. I love my husband and my pets but sometimes I feel like my house is already too crowded. I wouldn't want to be with anyone but them.

:)holiday baking, When I decided to make health and fitness my top priority in 2009, I decided to give up cooking and eating as forms of entertainment and recreation. It was a great decision.

:)return to normal, the thing I miss most is being able to use the restroom at the clubhouse in my neighborhood rather than having to return home when nature calls. I sort of miss my line dance classes but have been very happy dancing alone and dancing only the dances I like. Sasha misses being petted by the neighbors we see when we go walking. Jake misses our going out to lunch together.

:)Allie I had surgery for the first time when I was 70. It was very difficult for me to let people take care of me. I hope you'll follow all the directions so you'll be up and doing for yourself before long.
