Anyone do it all at home? No gym?

Hubby and Daddy are high risk had to give up my membership. Trying to motivate myself and get back on track.
Doing treadmill and have 5 and 10 pound weights.
Trying to remember my HIIT class moves. I"m 59 and after nearly a year with no gym not looking good. It could be a lot worse so there's that. It's not all bad.
Trying to make myself be consistent. I used to go directly ti the gym right after work. It's just not the same when you're by yourself or when you start getting achy joints.

All at home.
Only used the gym when going for cardio machines when weather too miserable and really needed to get certain workouts in.
Otherwise lifting had been at home for awhile.
So no machines now - outside if needed.
If you want calisthenic workouts (which is what the faddishly mis-labeled HIIT workouts are) - there are plenty online.
Or create your own with moves that don't hit the joints hard.
Or some resistance training for more muscle focus not cardio.4 -
Sydney Cummings on YouTube. Free, new workout every day, within a well thought out monthly program.8

stuff i bought:
dumb bell with 30kg plates
yoga mat
pull up bar
all bought online. no need to splurge. find something with good reviews
been working out at home since june 2020. 1 hour a day. very easy to make time. lost average of 0.7kg per week, all at home9 -
Haven't been to the gym in a year now. All last year I worked on building our at home gym in our tiny 1 bedroom apartment. The fact that I can't go to the gym still depresses me as that was a big part of everyday for me. Initially I felt lost as to how to go about a routine because it was just so different at home. Going to the gym it was this is the muscle group I'm working today, I'm going to do free weights and this machine etc. At home at first I just kinda looked at what I had (and its more than enough now) and thought well how do I even go about getting this done now? For a long time I really dropped off working out because of it. I sat down and came up with a new schedule, a new routine. I started off with some free apps which really helped. They were what I needed to help me find some structure. I found that YouTube is just an overwhelming amount of information. I searched apps and just tried a bunch of different ones. That was a good way for me to start off. I did research some different types of exercises based on the equipment I have. Then I just figured out a new time of day, a new structure and a new schedule all based on working out at home. A few apps I suggest trying are the Nike app (can't remember what it's called), Fitbod and giladondemand. I believe they all have free versions, or free trials. Beach body on demand also has structured classes, but I think that one is kind of pricey.6

I work out 7 days a week, 45 to 60 minutes per session at home only. Even before COVID I preferred it because the local gyms were dirty influenza incubators, the equipment was broken and they were filled with children for some reason
Youtube has zillions of HIIT and strength training videos. No need to figure it out on your own.

I am doing it in my retirement center. I walk the hallways 5X day. Getting a stationary bike in April. Was going to get it in March but delivery not till last of March so just way till April. Just restarted with MFP and have to break up any active I do with 1hour of rest due to lung damage. But am changing eating habits this time which I never done before. Every day I see small improvement in my breathing and that in itself is joyous to me.9

Yes, 5-7 days a week, any one or more of the following:
- Longer (3-5 mi.) walk outside, weather/safety permitting; (hoping to transition back into jogging once the sidewalks are a little less gross;
- Yoga With Adriene for flexibility/strength/mood;
- Caroline Girvan for resistance/HIIT, with 10 lb. weights; (before this, I progressed through various exercises and routines found on NerdFitness and Ask a Swole Woman;
- Fitness Boxing 2 on the Nintendo Switch for light cardio;
- Leslie Sansone if I've already done other exercise that day/am tired/too busy with work/not feeling well but still want to do something small to get more steps in;
I get bored easily, and this gives me enough variety that if I get sick of one, I still have plenty of other options to choose from.7 -
I'm a 53yo homeschooling mom and rancher and I do all of mine at home with a couple of kettlebells. I don't have time or inclination to travel into town to a gym, and I enjoy having that time every day when everyone knows mom's cranking up the bluegrass music and working out for an hour in her bedroom. LOL14

Yes. I never go to the gym and much prefer it. I save the commute and am more likely to workout when all my stuff is right here. I have a treadmill, elliptical, exercise bike, weights, vibration plate, and hot yoga area. I love being able to just roll out of bed and workout or instead of watching tv or sitting on the couch while I am doing computer work hop on the exercise bike or treadmill to burn some extra calories.5

57yo all (always) at home workout. Have weights, a kettlebell, jump rope, weighted hula hoop. Use Fitness Blender for strength workouts. Also have a treadmill and stationary bike but not used as often. Cardio is usually outside but this time of year, Leslie Sansone walking workouts. Have added a step for Jenny Ford workouts recently. Cross-country ski this time of year and kayak in the summer. I like to get my home workouts done in the mornings.
Have added daily yoga since this Jan and really enjoy the increased flexibility (Yoga with Adriene).4 -
I have in the past. Most of my exercise is outside of the gym. I go to the gym twice per week (sometimes 3) to lift, and that's it. Most of my exercise is on my bike or walking...sometimes hiking if it's a nice weekend. Most of what I do isn't really a "workout"...I just stay active.2

I never worked out until my early 40s when I decided I'd get in shape and was likely prediabetic, off a bad knee injury that left me unable to walk for a year.
Fast forward today -- I'm kind of obsessed with working out. I used to make fun of cardioholics, but I'm one of them. I have a Concept2 rower, a LateralX and an Assault Bike. Just set up a light lifting gym as well -- plyo box, 50 lb adjustable dumbbells, heavy rope, Total Gym, Power Tower, Nike portable bench (also a step) and a full set of KBs and Slam Balls.
I'm going to be 57 this year. I'm working out 9 times a week (6 cardio/3 lifting). On my off day I walk around 6 or 7 miles.
I was only going to the gym one day a week when Covid-19 hit. I work from home so was wanting to get out of the house more. I buy one piece of cardio usually a year (this year is the treadmill, likely a Peloton or NordicTrack), which is the price of a gym membership for a family (roughly). Most of the strength stuff has been X-mas presents from my wife or adult kids. Over time, I've gathered up a gym at home.5 -
If I had to go to a gym I would never work out. I'm a morning person, I have to work out in the morning. I get up sometime before 6, walk my dogs, do my workout, shower and get ready for my day. If I had to add packing a bag and driving to the gym (and leaving with wet hair!) I probably wouldn't do it. I have a treadmill, spin bike, weights and benches, and one of those all in one weight machine things (with the pulleys and such - idk what its called).6

Because of covid and gyms opening and closing every five minutes and being restricted in numbers (and session length at my gym) I've barely been in over the last year. (I'm in the UK). There's loads of HIIT on youtube, I do them three times a week (I was doing it 7 days a week) there's short ones tabata style all the way up to 50mins! I don't know about that. I'll do 30mins if it's 40seconds off/ 20seconds off. But for the 50seconds off/10seconds off I can't really do more than 20!
There are lots of dumbbell and kettlebell work outs too. I find following someone else more motivating. Buying kit is expensive and I've found it hard to work some muscle groups with the weights I have. I'm looking at getting some more stuff, but space is also an issue! I also do yoga online. I walk 6 or 7 days a week too, whatever the weather. I hate the wind the most though! Looking back over the last I wish I'd been more organised with my home work outs, I could have done a better job, but it is what it is.1 -
I was swimming until it closed. Since then it's been home only. I am a fan of BodyFit by Amy (lots of variety); I bought some dumbbells; and I also have a rower (WaterRower for me). I try to walk as well, though that's harder at this time of year. I'd say that I haven't been so fit for years.1

I was all excited about using a gym and then Covid happened. So it's been all at home. I've even had to give up walking cause spouse is high risk. So I do stretching and workouts on the floor, body weight stuff as well, running/high stepping in place. I also found some cheap exercise equipment like a mini stepper and a Pilates ball, plus some hand weights, but there is a lot of stuff you can do with body weight alone. You can also do stuff with gallon jugs of water, cans of food, suitcases filled with books. There are whole workouts to do with one kettlebell or one medicine ball. YOU CAN DO IT!7

I hate the gym. I couldn’t stand waiting for equipment, the less than equipped women’s area, people who wear perfume or heavy scents, etc.
I also found I always half-assed it and couldn’t wait to get out of there. The commute time and changing or locking up stuff in the changerooom was such a waste of my day.
I did enjoy a hot yoga studio but haven’t been in nearly a year since Covid. I will go back when safe but not as often as I’ve found other things I like to do and that benefit my physique more.
I absolutely love my home gym. I have everything I need at home. We have lots of space for movement, yoga with friends or whatever, a full mirrored wall, 50” smart tv for YouTube or streaming, dumbbells, barbells, punching bag, step, spin bike, treadmill, rower and other small gym equipment like padded bar, yoga ball, sliders, glute bands, etc.
I love working out at home and mostly use YouTube videos to do strength, cardio and spinning. I do yoga on my own. I walk regularly with friends or my husband and hike and bike.
In summer I often work out in the back yard and swim in the pool.5 -
What DancingMoosie said!! Sydney Cummings will change your LIFE! I never want to go back to the gym.0

I have done everything at home using resistance bands. I currently use a program from ado-fitness.com but will be using YouTube and some other free sites for new workout variations after this session is done. I have lost a ton of fat and built amazing muscle tone just using bands.5

I like to do free morning workouts with Kaylene at
https://www.zumba.dance/marketplace/details/6032c76d-7724-4a87-8eef-2db80a010b10
It doesn't require equipment. I have resistance bands and small dumbbells but haven't really figured out how to use them.1 -

I have done Sydney Cummings every day since last July. My physique has changed so much! I’m in better shape at nearly 48 than I’ve ever been. I love her! No need for a gym.2 -
Never been to a gym. Rural living here. I walk and run outdoors. There are tons of workout videos on youtube for every fitness level and interest. I do have an elliptical/bike for when the weather is completely ridiculous. Good luck! Oh, I am 62, lost 70ish pounds and have kept them off for over 5 years.2
-
yes all at home here. I've never even been in a gym. But - I'm very fortunate and have a lot of equipment in my house and space to do different things. I started with just a couple dumbbells and a step though!2
-
I have done everything without any gym. Started in July walking 1 mile a day then gradually increased. Since about September I have done a longer walk in the morning and then about another mile and a quarter right before or after dinner. I am currently just finished up 165 miles total this week and now jog at least 1/2 of the now 4+ miles in the morning. Started at ~298lbs and was 202lbs yesterday morning. Just being consistent and tracking the food. Best of luck. You can accomplish anything as I have been obese for 20+ years before I decided it had to change (Doc finally told me I had type 2 diabetes in July - but it went away after 3 months and I now have the best A1C ever in my life)1

She looks great. I'd have to ease into it since I'm 59 and need ti loise about 70 lbs.
I was doing HIIT, Zumba and Spin at the gym, treadmill and the machines on the days I didn't have classes. Now a year later I'm lucky if I get 3000 steps in.0 -

Sydney shows modifications for almost everything. Try it!1 -
I haven’t been to a gym in years. These resistance bands, the tower, an adjustable bench, and a bar for bench pressing, deadlifts etc.... this is my routine. I think many people under estimate the tension of bands when they are doubled and tripled etc...I have been steadily building muscle!
In between this program is 40 mins on my eliptical or bike.

I am not or never was a gym joiner. I didn't like it. I have lost weight all at home (70+ lbs. and counting). I have a treadmill, rower, bike and weights in our basement. I do yoga for flexibility and use kettlebells for variety all done watching YouTube. Walking or Hiking outdoors, if you can is great also. You can do this. Do baby steps, use your treadmill and watch tv I do. I like to watch action or suspense shows; makes the workout go faster...LOL...Good luck! Oh, I will soon be 54!5

Gyms are still closed here in the UK, which makes me sad I also really struggle with home workouts and I like the routine of the gym, being surrounded by other people who are working out helps me.
I have actually hired a personal trainer to work out with me outdoors until gyms reopen. She keeps me motivated. I have a session this morning actually! Outside of that, all I am doing is trying to eat healthily and doing lots of walking. My goal is just weight loss at the moment though so that it enough for me. I struggle with home YouTube/ Zoom workouts for some reason and just can't seem to get into it.6 -

Same here! I think, for the first few weeks (after gyms close) I am able to regularly train at home but soon find that I get very bored with the lack of atmosphere at home and become very uninspired by the same 4 walls! Before I know it, the novelty has worn off. Plus, given the UK constantly going in-and-out lockdown [gyms opening and closing again] is just so draining; you get a slice of normality and get back into your routine then it just gets ripped from under you all over again.
I just try and mix it up at home now. Weight-training, yoga and 30-day challenges with friends (i.e. push ups/ abs, pull ups etc.)4
