It is doable. Last year from May 20th to dec 31st. I lost 116 lbs. I went from 382 lbs to 266 for a 3.62 lbs week loss average. I'm currently 251lbs and have been the same size for about 5 months. I would like to lose another 40lbs. I got kind of burned out and have been eating a lot more otherwise I would of kept losing.

Wow, that was an amazing loss! No wonder you needed to take a break!

28.0 pounds down, 39.5 pounds to go!

Still on target! (at 2lb/week, my excel chart predicts a Dec 12 finish; I know it is highly unlikely that I will continue to lose 2 lbs per week but it's a sweet dream and very motivational, so no officious Debbie Downers please).

New mini-goal: 149.5 by my birthday, October 7. This is the day my excel chart predicts that weight, and it's my break from "overweight" into "normal" weight, according to the charts, if I continue to lose 2 pounds/week.

You are doing great, sweetie. I think this challenge scares people because of the level of commitment it takes to do it. You do YOU and don't forget before/after pics!

thanks! I do get a little freaked by the number of people who said that they were going to join and then I never heard from any of them again. But I'm hangin' in there and am totally committed! I didn't take any before pictures but I will definitely post an "after" shot! Thanks for your support!

@chublet25 you must be very active and fairly young to be losing at that rate. How ARE you doing it? Oh, how I admire you for taking control of your weight in such a decisive way. So, have you figured out how you are going to maintain your weight after you reach your goal so it doesn't all just pile back on?

Ha, I am not young. I will be 66 in early October! But I am exercising a lot, and have done the c25k while on this challenge, and have recently upped my jogging to 40 minutes, 3 times a week. And I walk and hike a lot. And I don't eat more than 1200 calories a day. But I think the biggest thing I'm doing is eating right. I'm nearly grain-free and I'm a long-time vegan. I watch my B-vitamins, my Ca and Fe, avoid added sugar and salt, eat a big salad every day. In the 5 months I've been at this I haven't once slipped up (which is some sort of record for me), but I've lost 65 pounds in 5 months. It can be done! It helps that I live alone so nobody's bringing home chips and (vegan) ice cream to tempt me.

I intend to keep eating properly. I confess that I was a junk food vegan and gained a lot of weight. I also plan to overindulge from Christmas eve until New Year's Eve (on an annual basis), at which time I will immediately go back on a low-calorie diet and lose the weight I regained. I have my menu planned out and will be making two desserts from Chocolate Covered Katie's website (her stuff's vegan and healthy and usually has chocolate in it).

This spring I bought a pair of Cross Country skis when they went on sale. I used to love skiing and live in a perfect spot to do it. I can ski straight from my back door on weekends, anyway; I still work for a living and it'll be dark by the time I get home at night. I might take my skis to work and go out over lunch. Depends on how much snow we get I guess.

But keeping up this rate is getting tougher, which is why I upped my exercise this week. I can't eat any less, though sometimes I do eat close to only 1100 calories, so more exercise is my only option. It was tough when I started because I broke my back a few years ago and it still hurts, and on hikes, I carry a walking stick but motor right along. it's supposed to be healthy to lose 2 pounds per week, and that's my goal. Though secretly I want to lose more!

But thanks for your kind message. I am very determined. On March the 23rd, I just had enough of being so heavy and started eating properly again and exercising. And I haven't looked back. I do wish that there were other people in this group, but going it alone isn't going to stop me!

@chublet25 Hey Pat, we are close in age. I will be turning 63 the first week of October. I tried going WFPB, unfortunately my system doesn't tolerate beans, lentils, or soy products. It was practically impossible to get sufficient protein, and my chronic anemia reared its ugly head, even with supplements. I have drastically cut my meat intake, just enough to get my protein and keep my anemia under control.

I started on MFP 2 years ago then had episodes of hypertensive crisis that landed me in the ER a few times. Cardiologist said no exercise and nothing that causes stress. I fell off the planet and just getting myself back into life.

Plain ole CICO for me, just got the okay to start walking and light resistance exercise as long as I don't have to hold my breath to do it. I am looking forward to cooler weather so I can start walking outside instead of inside. Broke out my resistance bands so I can try and build some muscle under the flab.

One thing I did find last time that helped me was joining the Ultimate Accountability Challenge. It is a very friendly and supportive group. Maybe you could check it out and jump in on the September challenge?

Any way you can get yourself motivated is a plus. I will try to check in and cheer you on. HUGS!

Bummer about the anemia; I try to get my protein from a lot of different sources: chia seeds, nut butters, and many vegetables are surprisingly high in protein but of course I eat tempeh and other soy products, am extremely fond of chickpeas. I don't know what I'd do if I had an allergy such as yours. Because I absolutely will not eat animals or animal products. I guess I'm lucky! Other than a broken back a few years ago, and cancer (offending body parts removed) I'm perfectly healthy and have no excuses.

Thanks for the cheering! The CICO works for me too, but I can increase my CO. I can't reduce my CI - I'm already eating only 1200 calories per day.

I have joined the challenge you recommended! I see it's really a group. I don't know if I have to get accepted or not, but I'll try to post tonight once I've got everything logged and my exercise done. Jogging and a long walk are on my "menu" for the day. Also, I still work for a living, so I have to work that in somewhere!

Thanks again. Hope to see you in the Ultimate Accountability Challenge. I track everything and exercise almost every single day.

I have left the group already, after posting just 2 days. I already keep track of everything and I am already very motivated to stay on target. Besides, I'm already in 6 challenges and 4 other groups. One of them requires daily posting. But whatever works for everybody is what they should do!

Still on target! At 2lb/week, my excel chart predicts a Nov 30 finish (and 146.5 by my birthday and 126 by Dec 14th); I know it is highly unlikely that I will continue to lose 2 lbs per week, and I'm already really having to kick up the exercise to keep this rate up, but it's a sweet dream and very motivational, so no officious Debbie Downers please.

If you don’t mind, I’ll add my posts here too. I’m 66, and in June of this year reached my highest weight ever of 193.8 pounds. I started using MFP to log my food and weight on 6/30/21. I have been walking for my exercise activity right now. I do have a some equipment such as a stationary bike, rower and weights that I need to start using. I’m basically following a 1600 cal diet, usually log 1300 -1500 per day, concentrating on macros which has worked well for me in the past. My goal is between 115 - 120, no set time to reach it. Current weight is 170.4, and I’m 5’3”.

Not sure why somebody's disagreed with your post. I am happy to have somebody else in the group! Your weight loss is going really well; congratulations! Welcome!

I have a treadmill (use it only in the winter) and a cheap elliptical machine (hardly ever use it), don't count steps, don't have a gym membership, just get some exercise and count calories!

    Best of luck!

    Pat
