First time newbie here! Hiya!

It’s this, or an early coffin, so here I go! I’m riddled with health problems I was born with, so I gave up on myself at 16. I was thin then, but in pain all the time. It hurt too much to move, so I started turning to food to cope with depression. Now I’m almost 300lbs with a small body frame, so it’s even more painful. I have to do something. Meds have contributed to my weight gain, but eating disorders, and lack of coping skills are destroying me. I have to stop loving food more than myself.

    Hello, and welcome!

Kudos to you for taking the first steps: That's a big deal. You have somewhat different challenges than I started here with, but in the 6+ years I've been on MFP (losing, then maintaining), I've seen all kinds of folks achieve their goals, via patience and persistence, over time.

There are all kinds of examples over in the Success Stories part of the Community that can be really encouraging. A sampling of good ones can be found here:

Since you mention eating disorders and health issues, I hope you have resources that can give you specialized help with that, such as a medical team, registered dietitian, physical therapy, counseling. If those things are difficult for you in some way, you may be able to post in various parts of the community to get tips from people who've faced similar challenges. I know they exist, have seen their stories. Besides the kind of resources I listed earlier in the paragraph, I've seen people post about books, podcasts, etc., that they found helpful in their progress.

I'm wishing you much success in reaching your goals!

I can somewhat relate, I need to lose weight to get/keep my blood pressure down so I don't rupture my aortic aneurysm.
How do we find existing discussions about weight loss with exercise limiting health issues?

You can try putting words related to your health condition(s) into the Search part of the Community forum. Look for "Search" or the magnifying glass near the top of the page (depends on whether you're on the web version of the Community, or the phone/tablet app). Personally, I'd suggest limiting the search to a somewhat recent time period, like "within one year of today" or something like that. Medical treatments change fairly rapidly, and some of the older posts can contain outdated information.

If that doesn't get you useful results, you can (for example) go to the Food and Nutrition part of the forum, and post a thread with a title like "Successful Eating Strategies for Weight Loss with Aortic Aneurysm?" or the Fitness and Exercise area with "Safe Exercise Experience with Aortic Aneurysm?" or something like that, to see if other people have experience/ideas.

Any post like that will get some replies with "ask your doctor/get a physical therapist/etc." and "we aren't medical experts here" (which I think is understandable), but it can also possibly draw out people who have personal experience to share (may matter how you write the title/post, too). I hope you have already taken advantage of those professional resources to the extent possible, of course. People here do want to help, but want to be cautious, and everyone has a different communication style/preferences. It helps, sometimes, if one is able to read past a few replies that aren't as helpful (I think everyone means well)!
