A movie about a murderous vehicle, and other horror movies!

A 1958 Plymouth Belvedere (or Fury, if you read the book), known as Christine.

The plot is almost laughable. A car that kills. however it happens to be one of the best horror movies directed and horror books written, in my opinion at least.

I'm a horror movie fanatic and 98% of my film collection is of the "scary" nature.

I'm just curious, what are some of your favorite horror movies?

They can be gory, disturbing, psychological or just plain creepy. Please, do tell. Maybe you will name one I haven't heard of, which is what I'm hoping you do.

I'd love to add some new movies to my list.

At least he's getting his daily cardio.

    The Car
actually creeped me out a bit, and it makes you think of jaws

    http://news.moviefone.com/2010/04/07/a-rundown-of-our-favorite-killer-cars/

This is my absolute favorite of the bunch. The plot is bare-bones, and yet it's every other aspect of the film that lends a high-art quality to what has been unfortunately relegated to forgotten genre runoff. James Brolin plays a cop in a small town out in the desert of...Utah? Arizona? Sorry, can't remember. A devilish black Lincoln, seemingly spawned from the desert itself, begins mowing down residents in a blood-thirsty agenda of evil. That's about it, the rest of the film is all about them trying to stop it more than ascertain its origin. What is so fascinating about The Car is its similarities to Jaws. No, the mayor does not refuse to shut down the beautiful beaches of the land-locked American west in the face of looming threats of vehicular homicide. But there are shots wherein the car is used in precisely the same capacity and even has its own approach music to alert the audience to the impending danger. This car stalks prey like a shark and the situation becomes so dire that the put-upon cop must risk his life in a fool-hearty plot with a crazy old man. What really makes The Car so special, and so much better than it has any right to be, is Gerald Hirschfeld's cinematography. He eloquently captures the barren desert as the perfect landscape for outright terror. The wide-open expanses of the wasteland are shot in a way as to be as foreboding and mysterious as the ocean; again, Jaws. The really crazy thing is that The Car precedes Jaws by four years, so it's coincidental but still interesting.

    Wolf Creek
    Creep
    The Shining

I like the more psychological type of horrors.

You probably haven't heard of Wolf Creek if you live outside of Australia - it's *very loosely* based on a serial killer here.

My other half hates horror films, the only way I can get to watch them with him is if I lie and tell him they're 'psychological thrillers'.

The Evil Dead movies... cheesy but fun
Snow White - a tale of terror
    American werewolf in London
    Darkness
    Dead Birds
    The Fog - both versions
    Ghost Ship
    Haunted Echoes
Stir of Echoes (horror movies like to use echoes. lol)
    Blood and Chocolate
    Friday the 13th
    Salem's Lot
    Kill Katie Malone
    Banshee
    Shallow Grave
The Woman in Black - The original BBC film, not the new one with Daniel Radcliffe
    IT
    The Woods
    The Dark

Honestly I've seen hundreds more good ones I just can't recall at the moment. Or i can think of the film and not the name of it. SO many films keep reusing "Dark" or "Haunting"..
Horror movies are my favorite. lol

edited because I keep thinking of more...

Alien. One of the best horror films made in my opinion other than the classics. It was an amazing horror movie that just happened to be in space. Great pacing and great susppense.

The one with Dennis Weaver driving a little Plymouth and the truck keeps trying to run him down? Duel. First scary movie I saw when I was little.

"IT" scared me, as did the Hellraiser movies. One that made me holler out loud, though, was Ghost Ship.

silence of the lambs and the original night of the living dead. I do special effects makeup, horror movies have been a way of life for me since I can remember. When I was 6 none of my friends ever wanted to stay over because I had horror posters and masks all over my bedroom, now that I'm an adult with children, my kids are following in my footsteps! I hear other parents complain their kid sleeps in their bed because they're afraid of the boogeyman, I just laugh!! My kids know the boogeyman is latex and paint, they've never done that to us a night in their lives!!

As for "newer" stuff, I enjoyed insidious, and am looking forward to the sequel.
