100 carbs a day for those who don't like veg?

I've struggled to find a post on here for low-carbers who don't like veg. And when I do, there are far too many people preaching how we should be eating it.

Veg makes me physically puke, and at my age, I will no longer entertain it. I know many will respond by saying, "oh, roast it" etc etc tc. Tried it, hate it. I can liquidise it but it all tastes like grass or mud to me, and anyone says different just don't have my tastebuds. I'm mid-fifties and can tell you now - having tried many veg, many ways, it just doesn't do it for me. I love nearly all fruit, but veg really does make me physically puke. On a good note, I DO LIKE tomatoes (cooked and raw), raw celery and fried onion...

So moving on...

I've previously practised Atkins/<50 carbs a day and find that, whilst it works for weightloss, it's just not a viable real-life everyday way of living for me. My online search has shown that 100 carbs a day could be the long term maintainable answer.

Given this, my idea is to use both methods. A low carb chia porridge (recipe widely available online) will be great for breakfast.

A lovely cheesey scrambled egg on toast toast with bacon sounds great for lunch, but.... I will make my own bread (yes using readymade flour bags in my bread machine) but I can slice these thin and freeze them and then toast them. Does the heat/freeze/heat give extra resistant starch? I need to test it, but a half slice of crunchy homemade bread toasted straight from the freezer isn't too bad.

Finally my evening meal will be filling by way of mostly protein, but also some lovely potato. I will try pre-cooked frozen jacket potato. If I guess right, the extra resistant starch should again aid in a lower-absorbed carb count.

Any snacks would of course be fruits like strawberries or blueberries with natural yogurt.

There's a lot of inter-changeables can happen here to make a 100 a day carb experience, so I'm hoping for good results over a sustained period of time (though probably after Christmas) LOL.

I'm not clear on whether you're asking for suggestions (and if so, I'm not clear on how not eating veggies would make 100 carbs or less harder), or offering advice?

?? Or maybe I'm not looking at the OP. The listing for this thread says there are 15 comments, but all I see is a post from JollyDawg, which I assumed was the OP.

JollyDawg, is there a question or were you just stating how you felt, or...?

It sounds like you have a good plan, @JollyDawg2. And like with all plans, you can learn and adjust as you go, right?

I’m not sure how nutrition labels list it by you, but in the US foods have carbs listed and then fiber listed. We subtract the fiber from the total carbs to get the “net” or “usable” carbs. Many MFP entries have both of these listed.

I don’t think the heat-freeze-heat cycle will change the resistant starch content of the bread.

If you’re looking for more support for low-carb way of eating, you might find it in the Low Carbers Daily Forum group, if you find it frustrating on the general forums. There are a few other groups geared toward the low carb WOE, but that’s by far the largest.

Ah, thanks. Still getting used to it. [grumbly voice] Not sure I'd call it an "upgrade." ;)
