Training for Ironman!

Hello! New here, and training for Ironman. I'm working on fine-tuning my daily nutrition to make sure I have enough fuel to get through my workouts, but also trying to be careful not to overeat. I do need carbs to power through many long aerobic workouts, but need to work on getting more protein and healthy fats. And of course, I need more fruits & veggies!

Hi @SwimBikeRun_Mom. I started to train for triathlons last summer. I got my self a coach and the plan is to train to participate in sprint and Olympic distances in 2022, then train for a Half IM in 2023 and if everything goes as planned train for a full distance IM in 2024. I am 62 yo but I think it is never late to do what you always wanted to do. I am having problems getting enough protein too. Good luck on your endeavors.

@mirianyusm That's awesome - great goals and sounds like a solid plan!! I considered doing a Half first but it felt like I was starting down the barrel of 2 years of training for IM, b/c the full is what I really want. So, same as you - hired a coach and here we go!! And you're right - NEVER too late!

Training for Ironman as well. IM 6 weeks out from my race and I like to drop 10lbs in the last month especially for hillier races. MyFitnessPal helps a lot!

@kmulvey1976 Are you doing Texas? Wow... 6 weeks out!! Are you excited/terrified? I would LOVE to read a race report after the big day! How are you feeling? I'm 5 months out... so totally different place in training, but really trying to dial in my nutrition - I feel like I'm gaining. Could be some muscle increase (am still strength training), but I think I'm just plain over-eating b/c I'm hungry & tired. So, really trying to work on that. I'm not doing IM to lose weight, but if I manage to gain weight that's just ridiculous. Best of luck in your last few weeks!!
