55 y.o. m: I'd to lose 50 lbs more

Hello all,
Mike from Iowa here. I have battled with my weight for the last decade or so. I can lose the weight, but can't keep it off. It's apparently true that diets don't work, and I have to change my lifestyle.
My oldest daughter gets married in May, and I want to look good for her. I'm currently 251 lbs and I'd like to hit 200 for the wedding. If I don't make it, I won't be crushed, but I'd like to look good in a suit for the first time in a while.
Anyway, I'm on the journey will all of you nice folks. If you need a friend, hit me up.

Good luck,
Mike

  • Welcome you can do this, food scale, body scale, water bottele, measure cups , measure spoons, portion control containers all the things I use. Eat within a calorie deficit like MFP says and you will get there even if it's 10 lbs for the wedding this if for the long haul, for life. I've loss over and over also, but once I realized this is for life I've lost 50 lbs and have kept it off for the last year and still working on losing the last 25 lbs, it took me about a year to lose 50 lbs because I went up and down within my calorie range and doing no exercise to lose it so it was slow but steady. Find what works for you and keep coming back for support and using the tools here and you will be long on your way to success. Learn to cook healthy if you already don't and learn what portion sizes are. You don't have to suffer or punish yourself, I still have things I ate before just not often and portion controlled and it keeps me happy and satisfied and on the proper path to weight loss and healthy. Best of care.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! And congratulations on your success. Sounds like you have a great plan and are over the hump. I'd say a year into it, with consistent success qualifies as a healthy lifestyle change. Well done.
