Is it normal to have crazy sugar cravings before period and ovulation?
If so how do you deal with it ?
Every month this makes my goal slip away , im so tired of it
And my doctor says the metformin i take for pcos has nothing to do with it …
Should i try taking lower dose of metformin before period ?
I have an upcoming appointment but would like to see some opinions

I'm STARVING a week before my period.
It's always been that way and I don't suffer from PCOS.
I make allowances for feeling that way and don't beat myself up about it.
If you want something sweet - log it and move on.
Deprivation never turns out well.

I think it’s perfectly normal (although frustrating!) to be hungrier on the week before a period. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t experience it.
For me, as with many others, it was carbs! Bread, crackers, pasta, rice…
I rarely had a consistently regular cycle but I always knew when a period was about to appear by the mindless appetite, for foods I normally didn’t really eat much of, that suddenly arrived about 5 days beforehand!0 -
Some women here say they choose to eat maintenance calories during that extra-hungry phase, and accept the slightly slower overall weight loss that results, because it makes the process more sustainable for long enough to lose a meaningful amount of weight.
Did I do that? No. I'm in menopause, have been for years.0 -
It's actually more common for metformin to REDUCE appetite and sugar cravings.
A few things may be going on here:
1. Like many women, your metabolism may rev slightly premenstrually, increasing your appetite. Many of us find it helpful to eat at maintenance at this time. I THOUGHT I was craving pints of Ben & Jerry's, but what my body actually wanted was just 500 more calories of balanced macros.
2. Your calorie goal may be too aggressive, and you notice this more premenstrually. How many pounds do you want to lose and what weekly weight loss goal did you select?

This is me, as well. I make an effort to not eat substantially different, as in I don’t go out and buy things I normally wouldn’t eat. But, I definitely eat more during that time and if sometimes I don’t make great choices, I choose to just let it go and get back to better choices as soon as I am able.1
