Today is the First Day of the rest of this Girls Life...

At 57 years old I am restarting this journey today.
I’ve decided that I’ve got to take control of what has happened to my body and health over the last 10 years of constant weight gain due to aging/menopause.
I’m not a sweets eater but I do love my wine and bigger portions. Also pasta and rice…
Having had a Mom who would tell me to "get in there and get you some food before your brothers eat it all" created a mind set that I'm not going to have enough to eat.

I’ve begun doing Protein Timing for seniors and hoping that combined with daily stretching ( I’ve been doing special stretches for two weeks now to be able to touch my toes again and I’m getting soooo close!!) and walking for at least 30 minutes a day to help me achieve my goal.
I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and although I don’t expect to ever be 115 lbs ever again (I’m 5’3”) I do have a goal of 150 lbs with my first major goal to get to 170lbs.
I have an overall goal to lose 47lbs.
Here’s to making changes that last going forward.
Ps. Menopause is an EVIL, EVIL *kitten*!

You have said everything I have been thinking and experiencing. I have started using Oculus and doing Leslie Sansone walking tapes daily. I started using this app Monday and Garmin connect to track, and it really gives you incentive to keep going. I wasn't weighing myself for 6 months and I just got on the scale and the numbers are going down. I am no longer afraid of the scale lol.

Hello, and welcome to the MFP Community! I joined at close to your age (I was 59), used MFP to lose about the same amount of weight you mention (it was 50-something pounds, but I'm 5'5"), and have been here to maintain a healthy weight since (now age 66).

If by "protein timing" you mean spreading it through the day, etc., as recommended by the Prot-Age Study Group**, that's good stuff IMO.

For what it's worth, a menopause/perimenopause support thread recently got started over in the Health and Weight Loss part of the Community:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10863633/menopause-perimenopause-support#latest

Various things there so far, but among other things women are talking about what helped them succeed in weight loss or fitness improvement during menopause.

    Best wishes for success!

I started at 57, and went from XXL to XS. At the same time, I went from sedentary to extremely active, and am loving being in motion all the time. GERD conquered, arthritis pain under control without meds, too. I’m in better health now than 30 years ago.

Several of us “older” users are having an interesting discussion on another thread that we actually feel like “imposters”, because losing wasn’t as difficult as we thought.

It takes patience, and mindfulness, along with willingness to weigh and log foods. Consistency pays off, as does slow mindful loss and building habits to take you beyond your goal.

    It’s how you approach it.

If you begin with fear, a defeatist attitude that you’re too old, blame pre/post/peri menopause, approach logging with dread and hostility, you’re going to have a completely different experience than the determined user who is willing to read and learn, mess up a few times, tackling, wrasslin’, and taking control of themself.

My weight owned me, and I didn’t win until I owned my weight.

Much success to you. Set aside 10-20 minutes a day to read these boards. I promise you they will sweep you along. I read mine when I ride my recumbent bike every morning.
