I seem to be getting enough protein and 21g of fiber, so that's good. Then I'm trying to eat more fuits and veggies, but that's not tracked for some reason. I'm at about fifteen servings a week, near as I can tell. I ought to add some broccoli to my routine. I wish it came in little cups like my yogurt!
There is no straightforward answer to this. Generally, 30% of your daily calorie intake is good. However, if you are exercising a lot or doing a lot of resistance work, you might want to bump it up. However, you might also see recommendations of .8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. It totally depends on your goals.
Most would say getting more fruits and vegetables into your diet is never a bad thing.
I bet you can find broccoli in small cups. Looks in the food for kids sections of stores. You could portion it out into cups yourself as well and it will likely be much cheaper.

Beth,
Tim has backed away as the lying about cancer and then continued lying about other things just got to be too much, he and I are still in contact and he is willing to be a sounding board for me - I have gotten so I don't believe much that comes out of DB mouth. DB has decided to quit all medical help and will not refill this blood thinner meds, but astoundingly seems to be doing better. I was digging a hole in their back yard the other day with a pick axe (horrible dirt) and he took over from me. Which I appreciated, but if you can swing a pick axe and dig a 4 foot hole you are not suffering too much.

Michele:Terri – I would THINK that being a city now means that the city takes care of the roads, you have city water, sewer etc. We live right outside the city limits, in addition to lower taxes (which is real good), we are responsible for snow removal, maintenance, etc
Local government already take care of water, sewers, waste collection, roads, health, education, etc.0 -
Not much to add ladies
Tracy ,Miles and I went shopping this morning and i got gas for the car and brought them home..
Then came home.. Alfie was happy to see me..2 -
Worked today then dropped off some containers for the lady who runs the Mon. senior bowling.
M - “Does he have to help with the meat? Does he like meat? Does he like helping in the kitchen? “ Last time I was there he liked meat and I think he probably does now. Helping in the kitchen? I would think so. Last night I thought of pulled pork. I’m not crazy about it, but I can always have a sandwich. Oh, I know that things aren’t going to be “perfect”. But that’s what makes it extra special. I make pierogies, but Denise isn’t a cook so probably doesn’t have things to shape them. I don’t know what kind of stand mixer she has (I think it’s Hamilton Beach) otherwise I could take my pasta maker attachment with me. I don’t know if mine will fit hers. She probably doesn’t even have a potato masher so I would have to bring mine up. I’ll have to bring up a pan to make the meatloaf in and a jar to put the grease into
M – speaking of Chuck E Cheese: one Mother’s Day Vince asked the kids where they should take me for dinner. They said “Chuck E Cheese” “Do you think mom would like Chuck E. Cheese?” “oh yea” So guess where my Mother’s Day dinner was?????
Barbara – when I see the dermatologist for my annual checkup, I always tell him “I keep Coppertone in business”. No matter what I say or do, Vince doesn’t wear sunscreen when he’s outside. I know a while ago M mentioned that Neutrogena makes a sunscreen that isn’t greasy. Do you think he would even TRY it?
Terri – I would THINK that being a city now means that the city takes care of the roads, you have city water, sewer etc. We live right outside the city limits, in addition to lower taxes (which is real good), we are responsible for snow removal, maintenance, etc
It’s cloudy and starting to rain so I’ll probably bake the apple pie for tomorrow and then wash the inside of the windows
Lisa – LOVED your mom’s reason for outliving the undertaker!
Tracey – awwwwwww

If I were you I would leave all that cooking equipment at home. You're not going there to impress the family with your cooking skills, you're going to get to know you're grandson.
Me ... I'd go with pizza, hamburgers and eating out or ordering in for the 3 nights.
Keep it simple. 😀7 -
Thanks Tina! I think I'm on a good path for now!

Tina – thanks for your encouraging words regarding PJ. I do believe there are things that he can do. May not be perfect, but that’s OK. I have to remember to take some sprinkles with me for him to decorate “his” cookies. I want to try using a zip-top plastic bag, put water in it, and shake it real hard to see if any of the water comes out. If nothing, then we can use that for the Shake & Bake. He can shake and shake and there won’t be a mess. Let’s hope. An indoor water park! Sounds wonderful.
Went to ceramics and picked up Smurf. I’ll post a pic tomorrow. We realized that we won’t be back for 3 weeks!
Today was rainy so washed all the windows upstairs. All 24 of them (yes, I counted). I’ll do the downstairs another day and probably the garage at that time. I’ll “start to put up the pictures in the bathroom downstairs” since I have the step stool already down there. I know once I start, I won’t do it right and Vince will then want to do it. Hey, anything to get it done!
Anne – I used to go to the infant section of the food store to get dishes of vegetables for me to have while traveling since they don’t need refrigeration
Ran Buzz (robotic vacuum), cleaned the stove and front of the microwave, now want to use the Swiffer on the kitchen floor
Michele NC2 -
Regarding going to see PJ, I'm already hearing "this trip is getting to be expensive" <sigh> I don't think we have a choice.
Michele NC2 -
Michele - have you thought about asking Denise what he would like and what she has to cook with?
When we moved to Alberta we sold most everything and started over. When my MIL came for a visit she wanted to bake. Her and I just had a shopping day and bought some things she needed that I hadn’t replaced yet. Some things she just made do with. I sure Denise has a jar you could put grease in and perogies can be shaped by hand can’t they?
Kim - I hope you are successful. Your mom deserves a break.
I don’t understand how anyone could live like your brother has.
Had a productive day, planted a few plants and cleaned up the front flower bed. I also replaced the canopy on the gazebo and put out summer decorations.
I overdid it a bit and I’m feeling it tonight, but I’m glad to have done it.
Kaitlyn was feeling some better today, they went for ice cream and then spent the day on the couch. I haven’t talked to her in a few hours. I didn’t want to disturb her if she was sleeping. I’m sure she’ll relax more when she has the scheduled ultrasound on Thursday.

The family are currently up in the air and flying over Northern Italy. I've installed a flight tracker, so I can see them in real time.
Of course, I woke up at 3 am, when they did, and didn't get back to sleep at all. I dozed under my mask for half an hour once they were in the air. They are now about half way there.
The kids all have ipads and loads of films, games etc downloaded, so I hope it all goes smoothly. I think Edie will, be having a Harry Potter fest. We bought Max a Kindle for his birthday.
I will doze off this afternoon and then go for my massage. Can't wait. Walking home yesterday was really, really uncomfortable, but I'm not too bad this morning.
Sending best wishes for Kaitlyn, Tracey.

The best sleep position for minimizing aches and pains
Here's how to train yourself to lie down correctly—and why it can help.

I start by sleeping almost on my stomach, transition through sleeping on my side, and at some point in the night, I end up sleeping on my back, often with my arms above my head. But I have to have enough sleep time to get to my back. I don't usually get there in a 7-hour night.
I started sleeping with my arms above my head in 2007, right after a bicycle accident that partially dislocated my left shoulder. I discovered that I suddenly had way more flexibility in my shoulder than ever before, and it was most comfortable to place the arm on the pillow above my head.

Good morning and happy Tuesday! It was a great long weekend for me...did some cleaning and relaxing at our cottage. We spent some time with my sister who came home for the long weekend, we actually share our cottage property so we have lots of time together in the summer. I did good eating and logged at least some of my food. Sun is shining although it's cool out. I'm enjoying reading through your posts and getting to know you all.2

Sleep positions- I am a back and left side sleeper. When I get into bed, I automatically lie on my back. This is how I fall asleep. Sometime in that "falling asleep" stage, I roll to my left side and pull all of the blankets around me (like a nest or cocoon). If I wake up at night, I will usually be on my back again. If I am ever on my right side or stomach it is because I am suffering from night sweats. lol I move around a LOT on those nights and am awake a lot, as well.
Michele- Don't sweat the meals. Make easy stuff. IF PJ is not interested in helping in the kitchen, but you would like him in the kitchen with you, put some water and dish soap in the sink and let him play while you cook. Keeps my grandsons busy. Just remember to relax and enjoy your time with your family. Maybe let go of the way you do things and "go with Denise's flow". I think, sometimes, it is hard for our daughters to have us visit. We have been "parenting" and doing domestic things for a lot longer and we sometimes forget that OUR way of doing things might not work for their family. Just breathe and enjoy your time!7 -

I definitely do things differently from my parents, and I really discovered how differently when I moved into a suite in their basement to get my Bachelor of Education between 2005 and 2009.
My parents like to eat at specific times each day. My eating times to about 4 pm are fairly specific but after that, it's approximate. In other words, we'll eat dinner any time between about 6:30 and 8 pm.
My parents are meat eaters - that's an important part of their diet. I lean toward being a vegetarian.
My parents generally prefer the meat, potatoes, and veg kind of meals with things like lasagne, spaghetti, pizza and tacos now and then. I'm not keen on meat, potato and veg meals and rarely eat them. I don't know if my parents have ever had any sort of curry, and yet curries are among my favourite meals.
My mother has a schedule for weekly tasks like getting groceries and cleaning. I do those things when I get a minute and am motivated enough.
My mother is very neat - a place for everything and everything in its place. I define "place" loosely. I prefer things to be generally in the room where I use them when possible.
I can't imagine my mother having a drying rack in her living room, yet here I sit with a drying rack in front of me, and more importantly, in front of the split system.
So when we have visited my parents in the past, we've tried not to be underfoot too much. We'll come by for brunch, and then head out to do something touristy or whatever, and be back for dinner and some of the evening. It gives us both time on our own.
Speaking of which ... it's getting close to 5 years since I've seen my parents. Missing them a lot.

Neither my children, nor my grandchildren eat with their parents. They eat earlier and very different foods. My grandchildren are very particular and only eat a few things , though Max is much improved now. Plus they have intolerance, like gluten and cow's milk. Personally, I would eat out, or just serve him his favourite food (yes, the pizza) and let the other adults decide on what to eat for themselves later. Then they are not limited to child-friendly food.
He could enjoy making cookies though, for a short burst. I used to make the dough beforehand and just get them to do the cutting out and decorating. 3 is quite young for anything sustained.
I declined cooking a family lunch at Easter because everyone has their own preferences and peculiarities. Fussy. No fun, and frustrating. It could end up with feeling very unappreciated! We went out instead and all were happy.
Raining. I won't let it dent my enthusiasm for my massage this afternoon. Got to pick up some veg on the way home to go with duck.

Hi all. I was out at my craft group this morning. It’s a small group, and we have known each other for a long time, so it’s always a pleasant way to spend a morning.
Just waiting for DH to come home from badminton, then we will have lunch, and hopefully get into the garden between showers.
We have booked to go to Oxford at the end of July to celebrate granddaughter getting her doctorate. We are taking the overnight ferry, and staying for almost a week, so really looking forward to it. Daughter and both adult grandsons are coming with us. Only 2 of us can attend the graduation, so daughter and I will go, and the men can do their own thing.
🥳🎉 Cheers to all those celebrating.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

We had two hail storms within one week. The first one car escaped damage. Second one not so lucky car was out parked on street at son's. I got estimate yesterday. Fortuantely I have $100 deductible on comprehensive. The sad part there were so many hit by these storms I will not be able to get my car repaired until October. For the next month I hear storm I will stay home.
This seems to be repair month. I gummed up lawn mower by turning it the wrong way when cleaning out thick grass. You need air cleaner up. This is at son's house. We always have had an electric mower so learning curve for me. It will take 3-4 weeks to fix. amount to fix to be determined.
When turned faucet at our home faucet broke. I did not turn off water and drain properly in the fall and we had a hard winter. Fixed $400 later.
Part of our 50 year old fence posts rotted out. Fixed by handy man $450 dollars later. Still need to touch up paint.
Outdoor light at son's house going out. May hire neighbor to fix. I will give him until the end of June to get it done otherwise I will hire the electric company I have used in the past that I like. Light flickers right now. If completely goes out I will have to hire someone quickly for security reasons.
Upper story of house painted. I did need to carefully get windows unstuck because they painted them shut. Still need to paint lower window and gutter. It was already expensive enough to have them do upper painting.
DH with his health is not able to help with these projects. Just the way it is...
Setting up DrewB annual exam. Looking at last years record. She had 4 shots in one visit plus I was still giving her Flea, tick, and heartworm meds no wonder she became anemic. I am in future going to question any vaccine she had to have and will only allow one vaccine at a time with 45 days inbetween to monitor any adverse reaction. This comes from the detox summit. I cannot prove it but my gut tells me this treatment was the cause of her anemia problem. I still struggle what to do about heartworm. I did learn you have a 45 day window. The reason the suggest 30 days is because it is easier to remember. Lesson learned for me is to be an adovate for DrewB health and mine. No one else will do it for me. I will also make doing what I need to do improve our immune systems. Just as important if not more important than vaccines.
Defintely feeling overwhelmed by this. So as I said Allie your post on projects was spot on for me. Rather than turn to food I have been using that technique of taking 5 breaths and blowing out for five and then thinking of something postive like enjoying the lilacs and the crabapple trees right now or how well our choral concert went on Sunday.

Margaret ~ WOW! You've really had a rough month with so many repairs needing to be done. That is one of the down falls to being a house owner. Between my new hearing aids and having to get a new washer and dryer, it was a hard month for me also.
Michele ~ You've gotten a lot of advice concerning your visit to see PJ. I do hope you enjoy your visit and have bonding time with both PJ and Denise.
Kim ~ Continued hugs for your situation with Brother and MOM.
Going to go VOTE today! As usual, there is a lot of controversy because of the 2020 election results in Georgia. I have been praying and just hope the best candidates are chosen to be in the November election.

Oh Kim... I'm sorry that DB has pushed Tim to his limits too. Seems they always do that. Stand YOUR ground. At least you know what you know.
Michele, I agree. Leave the equipment at home and just go and have fun. You're a GREAT COOK. You can figure out how to mash potatoes without a masher and cook a meatloaf without "the pan". Our Hunter is the sous chef in this family. He doesn't care what he gets to help with as long as he gets to help. He was breaking eggs by the time he was 3-years-old. (and barely a shell in the mix) Now he does them all on his own and no shells whatsoever. And he knows how to use the big shells to get the little ones out if he does make a mistake. He loves to whisk and measure and pour and just everything that goes into whatever we're making. Grandpa has even started him on grilling. He's 6 now. He knows how to scrape the grates, open the lid, press the ignite, (grandpa turns the gas on/off). He can throw on the steaks or burgers, but Grandpa has to test the for temp yet cuz his arms aren't quite long enough. lol
Cookies were tough for my grands too, Heather. I made the dough ahead and they would be all excited to go... for the first pan into the oven. After that, they would scatter and I would be the one finishing the rest, except for our Hunter, as I said above. He always wanted to help. I swear that child is going to be a chef or a Pokemon. Or a Pokemon Chef! THERE ya go!
OH NO, Margaret! When it RAINS......... it pours. I'm sorry. We've had one of those months as well, but I won't bore you with the details. Suffice to say that our house is 30 years old.
I'm back to work now.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all!
Weather weasels say the rain here will start at 11 a.m. and go pretty much all afternoon and tonight. The same big storm track is showing that Rori got snow again last night in the foothills in Colorado.
Still supporting my best friend through her move - her mother's birthday is coming up next week, and she's really missing her--she would have had her mother's support, and she's mourning her loss right now because of the stress. Probably part of my own wistfulness of late.
Which reminds me - Kim, do you think your mother will actually move? I hope you can get her where she's cared for and protected. Doesn't sound like an easy task.
I have to head for WallyWorld and pick up some ammonia. In this humid climate, it's a lifesaver for cleaning. I genuinely hate to use bleach, and ammonia does almost as good a job without as much destruction.
Onward and upward, my chickens. The fiber optic internet gets installed tomorrow, and supposedly has a 1 gig symmetrical upload and download. No more buffering, super-fast transitions. Should be fun. I've worked with T1 lines that didn't have that much speed.
Later, ladies,

Hey ladies! So husband priced hotels in Vancouver WA where middle son and fam is for the visit in June. For the 4 nights we will be visiting them, plus gas, it will eat in our savings too much. I wanted to go down to let them go out to dinner for daughter in-laws birthday. If husband wasn't so ibby-jibby about dog hair we would just sleep on their air mattress in their spare room. But husband won't sleep on an air mattress, so we have to stay at a hotel if its both of us. So, I am going down on a train by myself. Its $49 one way so that's good. I will stay with them 6 days, and get my Athena time!💖👍. My eldest sister will pick me up and then stay with her for about a week as well. My sister has gotten many RSVP's regarding her little reunion at her "homestead", so it should be so much fun. All relatives on my mothers side. Mostly cousins, but one cousin (my grand uncles grand daughter) is coming from Montenegro! Her sister and family driving from Arizona, a cousin from Beaverton OR, maybe one from Everett. I'm hoping my middle sister can come for the day as well. Then I will just take a train or bus back to Mt Vernon WA. My husband will be by himself for almost 2 weeks but that's his choice. I'm not mad at him, it just is what it is.
I had a nice chat on the phone with eldest sailor. He sounded really good, upbeat and we talked for an hour. He's presently at the base in Japan that his youngest brother is stationed at, but his ship is out to sea. Darn it! Getting those two together will be a challenge. A lot of my eldest sailors shipmates know to keep a lookout for his brothers ship though, which is nice. My eldest told me he has been having fun reading D & D adventure stories on his phone. Choose your own path, etc, so that's cool. You can choose different characters, and run thru the same story, but a different point of view. I'm glad he is enjoying himself out on the big blue. Miss that kid though.💖
Today is my mammogram at the on base clinic. Should be interesting! Most procedures were done at places with a technician that has been doing it for years. Not sure how I feel having some young corpsman doing it! Also I might freak them out because I have underarm hair. I'll be damned, if I am gonna shave it, because they're uncomfortable about it. I have noticed it doesn't really grow anymore, its just a nice wispy thing, and I do not have any underarm odor. I rarely use deodorant. I find that interesting. So there's that little tmi of info for you. Lol!
Have a good day ladies!
