I wanted to share with MFP posters who might stumble on this thread ...

One of my go-to authors is James Clear, who wrote the book "Atomic Habits'. He said this in Chapter 1 about goals, which can so easily create an 'either-or' conflict, and they don't have to be that way at all ...

"When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don't have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running. And a system can be successful in many different forms, not just the one you first envision."

"Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's a day you've had everything to do and you've done it."

Source: Quoted in "As I Said to Denis: The Margaret Thatcher Book of Quotations"

"To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom"

This one is up for debate as to who said it, what it meant to the one who said it. ...

I had a moment of it today after I finished my meal and had a flash of desire for something sweet to top it off even when I was no longer hungry. I had to admit to myself that I often crave sweetened foods. It was interesting to observe silently the immediate reaction inside my head at that recognition of the desire. First, a picture of something sweet I'd recently eaten flashed in my head. And almost immediately an inner 'voice' reminded me that my weight loss has been slower than I'd like it to be. However, before that voice was recognized, my thoughts ran quickly to what was in storage of a sweet nature in the pantry or fridge ... ticking off the most easily accessible ones and, I guess, internally discarding one after the other because none of them were of the image my brain had flashed when the desire made itself aware to me.

Benjamin Franklin's 1st Virtue, from his autobiography ..
"Eat not to dullness, drink not to elevate."

In other words, don't overstuff yourself with either food or drinks (pretty much beer in his days).

Judging a project a failure is a matter of timing. A long-term project will be deemed 'failed' during the timeframe when it is still being a work in progress. I am a work in progress. Let no one mark this project a failure yet. It's not finished.

You can ignore the scale by not stepping on it. You cannot ignore weight gain when you have to buy larger clothes.

    Here's One ...
Good choices create opportunitites. Good habits make the most of them.

    And another ...
    Consistency before intensity.
Start small and become the kind of person who shows up every day. Build a new identity.
    Then increase the intensity.
    Quoted from James Clear.
