You are being robbed. 200 bucks can buy you a lot of healthy groceries....or a large portion of a gym membership...or a few sessions with a trainer. You could do healthy things with your money instead of pay to starve and drug yourself.0

Well, yeah, you're going to lose weight starving yourself! But a plan like that is in NO WAY sustainable, as soon as you're back to eating regularly you will surely pack on the pounds. This plan does not sound healthy in any possible way....it may be time for you to speak to a doctor or nutritionist that doesn't have an agenda. How much are you paying these people?!
Their prices are steep... $199 to start which included initial consult, bloodwork, in body analysis, 1 lipo b-12 shot, and the first month of appetite suppressants. Each week you're supposed to weigh in and it's $5 just to weigh in and $27 if you want another lipo b-12 shot.
How much!?!
Sheesh, send me half of that the money and I'll get you on a plan (where you can buy your own groceries and don't take weird shots). I mean, it'll mostly involve using MFP, a reasonable deficit, and compound lifts 3x with moderate cardio. I'm not a doctor but I promise It'll work. And cost less.0 -

I'm always curious … they call these places "medical weight loss centers" and call their people "physicians" … But I never see what credentials they have. Are they MDs (4 years of medical school successfully completed)? Nurse Practitioners? LPs? PAs? There's a lot of things that fall under "physician" that doesn't require a medical degree, let alone specialization in diet and nutrition. I don't know how much regulation there is over the term physician. And are the 'nurses' actually nurses? Even in the hospital, most of the people who take care of you are CNAs or something, very few nurses, but we tend to call them all nurses.
My 2 cents: If you want medically supervised weight loss, you won't find it in some stand-alone or box diet company. It'll be doctors, usually teaming with a hospital, who have MDs and specialties, like registered dietician or Bariatrics.0 -
Math says something is off with this:
1 lb fat = 3500 cals
9 lbs of fat = 31,500 cal
31,500 / 4 days = 7,875 cal/day deficit
Something tells me you have not been getting a 7,875 cal deficit each day.
Of course, water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon...
I didn't make the scales - I just use 'em. I weighed in on Monday at 212lbs at the weight loss center, which was consistent with my scale at home. Weighing myself today, I am 203lbs. 9lbs. I know the Lipo B-12 shot they gave me contains a fat burner. ?? And I now understand why the B-12 is there... I feel deprived of energy.
You lost the weight. The point was, that it probably wasn't fat, but water that came off.
And there is no "fat burner" besides using energy. Maybe it sped up your metabolism a teensy tiny little bit (and that's a very strong maybe) but nothing goes in and burns off your fat. YOU have to do that, by moving more and eating at a deficit so your body uses the stored energy.0 -

Would I call their program healthy, umm probably not. I do think that there clinic fulfills a niche that some people want/need. I can think of models or rich people with money to burn that just want to get as skinny as possible as fast as possible. I can see why a center exists and why people would go there, am I calling any of the people that would use the center healthy? perhaps not, but I think it is up to the person to decide if they need a service like that or not. I already see people here on mfp with open diaries showing that they only eat 700-900 calories a day and sometimes I see exercise and sometimes I don't and there are more then I thought there would be. So this clinic is just openly telling people to eat 750 calories and not hiding it. I don't see anything wrong with that. I would not recommend the program for someone with 30 or more pounds to lose. So for the OP I would say just stick with at least 1200 a day. Leave the clinic for the niche community.0 -

I don't like the idea of shots and pills to lose weight. And the thought of feeling like I'm starving for 30 days doesn't appeal to me either, not on any level. Add in the cost for this pleasure, and I think we've rounded all the bases... and are back at Nope. I wouldn't participate in this practice. Not for one day.0 -
don't know if you're breastfeeding, but even if you aren't, i wouldn't be trying to take care of a newborn with only 750 calories to get me thru diaper days and sleepless nights. unless you're 3 feet tall. if you're only 3 feet tall, then 750 cals is plenty0

I started my weight loss with the assistance of a doctor supervised plan very similar to this. I had 800 calories of protein for the first week, to jump start, and then a standard 1200 calories(protein, vegetable, fruit, grain, dairy) for the rest of the plan. The clinic provided a weekly weigh in, counseling, and support whenever necessary. I lost about 40 pounds by changing my dietary habits alone. Never had any issue with starvation mode, excess skin or lack of energy. And the clinic was operated by and actual doctor, a surgeon to be exact. My mother is a nurse and works with the doctor on a regular basis.0

I've been hearing about these places a lot in the forums. It's disturbing. They get people to do these awful diets by saying they are doctors.0

I used one of these places for about 3 weeks. I lost 12 pounds the first week and about 20 pounds over the course of it. The diet was 800 calories per day (normally they'd want 500 but I get hypoglycemic). It was also low carbs in those calories. I quit the program because it was going to cost me $80 per week just to weigh in and talk to the PA and I didn't want to sustain a low carb diet for life. I'm trying to do this by making lifestyle changes I can live with. Plus, I didn't really like the nurse that always did my weigh-ins. She was annoying and fake.
However, when I decided to quit the program and go back to calorie counting (which was working on its own up until that point), I did manage to keep ALL the weight off and continued to lose more.
I did weigh about 325 when I started the program so there's not really a problem with me losing the weight that fast.
To the OP, you just need to listen to your body and go by how you feel. If you start feeling run-down or get sick easier, you might be eating too little.0 -

750 calories is really depriving your body. You need at LEAST 1200 calories a day just to survive and that's if you're sedentary. I've tried that extreme low calorie stuff, it only made me feel weak and lethargic. ditch their diet plan!0

Well here's the thing - I just had a baby 6 weeks ago. When I found out I was pregnant (a very pleasant surprise), I had just begun my weightloss journey. I was 258lbs at my highest (I lost a few pounds before coming to MFP) and when I found out I was expecting, I was 238lbs. By cutting out sodas, drinking lots of water, and watching my caloric intake on MFP, I was 226lbs the day I delivered my son. I was not dieting at all while pregnant - I was eating healthily as I should and contribute the weightloss to drinking water vs Coke all day and eating healthful foods instead of junk. About 2 weeks postpartum, I had gone down to 203lbs. I was thrilled - so close to being out of the 200's where I've been so long. But my appetite started picking up and my weight slowly started creeping back up. I went up to 212lbs. I freaked out, not wanting to go back. So I contacted the weight loss center. As of today, I am back down to 203lbs. Feeling quite miserable... I acted out of fear of going back

Don't do that! Trust me. It will work at first but after a while you will be starving and start binge eating. I have been there and now I have a full blown eating disorder. Please don't restrict that much. It is not medically or mentally safe at all.0

Were you already eating a low amount of calories before you went there? If so, it could be they are just upping your calories slowly.
All this also depends on your current weight, your age and your height. Now it's VERY unlikely that anyone would need just 1000 calories a day, but it's not completely impossible.
I would ask. Ask them why it's so low, as them as many questions as you can about it, voice all your concerns. Doctor are trained and do know a lot, but they don't know everything. If they can't come up with healthy sounding reasons, I wouldn't listen to them.
You could also calculate your bmr, rmr and tdee yourself, or get second opinions from others.
Just because someone is a doctor, doesn't mean they're right.0 -
Some one can have a PHD in history and have the privilege to have the title of DR. But that doesn't make them a medical doctor. You can check this 'doctor' out on the internet0

Are you breast feeding while you are doing this?! I would consult with your regular doctor and/or obgyn immediately.

I am a firm believer that whatever we do to lose the weight should be something we can do for the rest of our lives. I have lost over 30 pounds since January 2013 and I eat what I want, just in moderation. If you deprive yourself for a short time to lose the weight, then go back to eating like you were, all that weight lost will come back and then some. Possible damage to organs can also occur.
For instance my sisters and mother have done the yo-yo dieting and all three have to take thyroid meds now. Yes, their thyroids quit working. My youngest sister did the ali diet and she lost weight, but while on vacation at Disney, she had to stop eating the cheeseburger so the emergency room could remove her gallbladder.
I for one do not want the issues they have, so I am not going to deprive myself of small amounts of what I enjoy. Sharing my foods have worked great and exercise 6 days a week really helps too.
So I would get a second opinion if someone told me to avoid certain foods and eat less that what my body needs to function.0 -
Is it Dr.B? One of my friends, an LPN, works for the company, and it definitely works, but it's designed to put your body in ketosis for super-efficient weight loss and isn't really a good idea for many people, thus the frequent tests and things. But for many obese people, the risks of being obese are higher than the risks of such extreme loss, so people take it.
I dunno. Knowing as much as I do about it from my friend makes me really wary of it, but I've also seen really incredible results from it. I guess my advice is to follow it to the letter and make sure you're consistently and closely supervised.0 -

I would never be willing to follow any diet that is so far off that vitamins are recommended to be injected instead of ingested. Particularly while I have kids to set an example for.
I started at somewhere between 200 and 205 in July, and am losing two to three pounds per week without having to go anywhere near that extreme. Even without "appetite suppressants" I'm never tempted to eat my kids. My "kind of yuck" time is limited to no-sleep nights and catching the new school year cold.0 -
