i will no longer be using this app

for years, I have used fitness pal and been able to scan barcodes when inputting my diary of meals for the day. I now find that the bar scan is not available unless you pay a monthly fee for this app. The bar scan option was always a part of fitness pal. That is a very disappointing change. I will no longer be using this app without that ability. i believe this was a bad decision and probably you lost a lot of users and opportunities for your advertisers!

    I just signed up for the free monthly trial. Is the barcode option available in the trial?

    @dreast

    May you find success with whatever new tools and approaches you will use.

    I miss the barcode scanner in the free version too. I do think it was a mistake to move it to premium, but that was not anything I had control over. What I do have control over is managing what I eat and how much exercise I get. Even without the barcode scanner (please bring it back to the free version if you're listening staff... but I know you're not reading this), I find MFP a powerful tool that helps me manage my weight and fitness.

    I'm sorry you find that without the barcode scanner you find the entire toolbox useless. You won't even get this message if you're not using the tools anymore, but if you do happen to come back and check, I'm sure you'll always be welcome back free of charge to use all that is available and to use the premium features if they are that important to you.

    The free trial is just like regular premium, so yes, you should be able to use the barcode scanner.

    That will give you time to decide whether you rely enough on the barcode scanner that you wish to do the premium subscription, since you’ll have to pay if you wish to continue using the scanner.

    I did subscribe, because I have had so much success here and want to support the app to be around for many many years to come. I’d be flailing if it suddenly disappeared like SparkPeople did. (And my understanding was, that was even a paid subscription?)

    However, tbh, I find the barcode scanner to be such a PITA (using it in the middle of saving a meal-recipe makes the app shut down and I lose every blooming entry I’ve already made), and so inaccurate (particularly if you shop at American Lidl……in which case it brings up some totally unrelated food…..grrrrr!) that I seldom use it.

    I’d get along just dandy with the free subscription, and my husband already does, since he’s able to copy my meals.

    You could say he does MFP Lite, because I do all the work for him! 😇

    PS, between the two of us, using MFP, we’ve lost a “large American adult”, and our health is so much better as a result.

    I hope, @dreast, that you're not talking to MFP staff here in the Community but to other MFP users with no more power than you have?

    Moreover, since the change was made months ago (as noted above), you're probably mostly talking to other users who either paid for premium, or decided they could live without the bar code scanner. (I don't use it, myself. Not convenient for me at all.)

    If you want to complain about it someplace where MFP staff might see the complaint, this would be an area to comment:

    You could also up-vote others' similar suggestions there.
