My legs felt good and I was surprised that I could hold the speed well, when a month ago it felt like I was barely holding on at that speed.
That is such a good feeling!eleanorhawkins wrote: »@martaindale put the activity you care about the most first was the advice I was given.
That's what I have heard as well. That was actually the reason I did pilates first. The run was just a 3 mile recovery, so it seemed like a good one to do after a workout and the strength training was the real focus yesterday. I just did not expect my legs to be sooo tired. Maybe once I've done pilates a few more weeks I can try this again, but right now it takes a lot of effort it makes running seems so easy!!
Also, you are great at accidentally signing up for races! It's like your fingers have a mind of their own.4 -
I am having trouble keeping up with everyone's posts, especially since I don't run every day. When I come here to log, I find 30-50 posts to read. My goal for the rest of this month is to complete the 50k, try pilates, and get new shoes. Running is getting a little bit easier now, but still often a slog.

It's an addiction. If I wasn't firm with myself I'd end up signing up for all sorts of crazy stuff! For the time being the never-run-a-marathon status is keeping me in check. I suspect once I do, things will get really out of hand!3 -
@martaindale sounds like you are in good shape to get your HM PR. Like you said, weather will play a big role. Wishing you the best!
6 treadmill miles today.

Nice running @Scott6255 . Glad you were able to get for another one before the weather hits again, and great treadmill run today.
Nice running @kgirlhart ! Our temps are supposed to drop all day tomorrow. I'm dreading it.
Another nice recovery run @tarun_yadavA ! I'm sure your MIL's situation is very frustrating for your family. Hugs to you and wishing you wisdom and patience.
I would imagine that those Pilates and running wouldn't be real compatible @martaindale . You are doing great. You had a fantastic run today in those winds. When is the HM you are wanting to run? I can see you getting a PR as well as you are doing.
Great tempo run @Laurz9191 ! That was my planned run too. I think you did much better than I.
Glad you are recovered from your race @eleanorhawkins . I'm pretty sure you are going to have an accidental signing up in your near future.
You're doing great @spl8 . It is hard to keep up with this thread if you don't log in everyday.
I didn't have time to sit and wait on the internet to decide to work, so I didn't post yesterday. I did play doubles tennis for 1h56m10s the morning. The weather was perfect for it - cloudy and 57F (13.9C). It was fun and I could feel that it uses different muscles, esp. when stretching to reach a ball. LOL
I ran some errands and after I got home I did a driveway workout. I was short on time since mom and I were going to church, so I walked one mile total for warm up and cool down and then ran 1.25 miles - only walked at the steepest part of one of the hills, so it was a bit tough. The running was 16:28 min for an average pace of 13:10 min/mile. Avg HR was 142 and max was 153.
Medical info under the spoiler, if you are interested.Today was my stress echo, so I had to get up at 5:00 in order to be at the hospital, a little over an hour away, by 7 ish. The test went okay, but no news as to the results yet. They said I may hear from them tomorrow since my cardiologist will have read it today. Anyway, I did turn on my Garmin for it and set it to where I could see my HR. The one thing I did learn was that the Garmin HR was spot on to the one that was showing on the EKG they were doing at the same time. So, I now have a lot more confidence in those numbers going forward. Because I had to hold onto the bar, it didn't give me a distance, but I did burn 87 calories. They had to crank it up to 14% incline at 4.2 mph in order to get my HR up to 145...which is where they wanted it so it might still be at 133 (target) by the time I got back to the bed for the "after" echo. I'm not sure they were able to catch it that high. I looked at the Garmin HR chart when I got home and it showed that I went from 164 bpm (when I was getting off the treadmill and onto the bed) down to 94 bpm in less than 2 min. I know the 94 was correct, because I had looked at their machine and saw it was already that low. Running has made my recovery fast.
I was tired when I got home, so took a nap. When I got up, I went out for another driveway run since it was 73F (22.8C) and cloudy. Today was scheduled for a tempo run. I didn't do it exactly like the plan said, but did run one mile easy, one mile faster, then one mile easy again. The splits were 14:11, 12:53, 14:12. I was okay with that. My avg HR was 152, with a max of 164 bpm. I also walked one mile total for warm up and cool down.

66.99/90 miles completed for February
It was a tough run this morning. It was 32°F but with the 20+ mph winds, it felt like 23°F. I managed 5 miles, but I was pretty glad to be done. I think wind is my least favorite weather, especially when it is cold.

Nice :26 min run. Ought to pick up next week.5

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!
Feel I can enjoy this one! (No marathon on Sunday to worry me! Lol)
Another 4. Getting back into groove!
PS: @spl8 - simple answer: Run every day! Ha!
Kidding.
But this group is super chatty and infectious!
Love it! Been on MFP for 6y, but can't believe I missed this... Been about 6M for me! ☺️8 -
Hi everyone. Just checking in. Reading daily but a little lazy about posting.
Not doing excessive with the mileage this month but I should meet my goal of 100. Feb is always a tough month with the weather swings etc. And yesterday was pretty miserable with temps dropping all day and a freezing wind. But hopefully the last time the plants have to come into the garage. Pretty wild after playing tennis on Tues in almost 80 deg sunny weather.

Cloudy, low 30s F, with a nasty, gusty, vicious cold wind from the west. Ugh...9 -
Way to get it done @kgirlhart . I'm with you on the cold wind. It's the worst.
@tarun_yadavA You are recovering really well. Quicker pace today I see. Any "social" gatherings this weekend?
You are doing great with your runs @SummerSkier . These wild weather swings are awful. It was 76F here yesterday and today was 44 when I woke up and dropping all day. May get snow later today.
You did great getting out in those conditions @Tramboman . Hopefully your weather will get better soon.
Great running @chris_in_cal !

Really enjoyed this run. There was a light drizzle when I started which got a bit heavier half way but because there was no wind at all it was really relaxing. I think I like running in the rain.
04/02 2.08 miles
05/02 2.39 miles
06/02 2.55 miles
15/02 2.56 miles

Sounds like a great run @Mari33a !
I worked at the daycare today...first time is almost 2 weeks. I didn't have to go in until 11:30, so I got up early enough to get in my run before leaving the house. Unfortunately, I miscalculated and had to cut my run short, but I did something. I walked one mile total for warm up and cool down. I ran a total of 1.15 miles - first mile was at 4.5 mph, then finished at 4.2 mph. No walk breaks today, since it was a short run. My avg HR was 123, with a max of 133 bpm.

Morning all.
Got in 5 today (or 4.99 ! Damn Strava!)3 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »When is the HM you are wanting to run?
The first weekend in March. I’ll probably have to make a decision by next weekend one way or the other.
@quilteryoyo Good idea to check the Garmin against your stress test data. I sometimes wonder about my HR data too.I think I like running in the rain.tarun_yadavA wrote: »Morning all. Got in 5 today (or 4.99 ! Damn Strava!)
This is why I always go to 0.01. Strava always steals a hundredth and I like a nice round number!

Yesterday was a rest day for me. Currently sitting in my kitchen having coffee and planning out my route for today. I came out to the hill country to intercept a furniture delivery and it is pretty cold this morning. It’s still about freezing, so I’ll probably give it another hour or so. Yesterday I did “strength training”. Moving furniture and dragging some of our downed branches to the burn pit. We have been under a burn ban basically since we bought this house so it was almost full already with branches and pruning bits so I burned one round off and managed to throw a few branches in for good measure. My husband and I will be here over spring break and I see a lot of chainsawing and dragging branches in our future. Hopefully the burn ban stays off so we can get a decent clean-up done. The ice storm a couple of weeks ago downed a ton of branches. Luckily we don’t have any trees close enough to the house to do any damage.7

Good morning everyone! It's been a few days since I've been here. There's a lot of posts to catch up on!
No mileage for the past two days. I did do a few running-related tasks: finally bought new shoes and upgraded my watch. I've been wearing the same fitbit for about 7 years, and I wanted a few more features. It's still working great, so I set up my old fitbit for my mom to try out, since she's also trying to be more active.
I wanted to give the shoes and watch a test run last night, but my husband convinced me that a dark, snowy, 20 degree night might not be the best conditions. He suggested that we work out in the home gym instead, so I could still try out my new watch, even if the running shoes had to wait (no treadmill to try the shoes unfortunately). Our home gym is mostly hand-me-down, but it's really nice to have the space inside. I just need to get in the habit of using it more!
Today's weather should be going a little above freezing, so hopefully I'll get myself outside and add some mileage today.6 -
Nice sleasy run @tarun_yadavA . A change of scenery is a good thing.
@martaindale Yes, I think you will have to decide by next week on your HM. I hope you get in a nice run today. Glad that you didn't have any damage to your house from the downed limbs. Yardwork can burn a lot of calories.
@ScienceofTeaching You're husband sounds pretty level headed. I hope you are able to get out for a test run today and it goes well.1 -
@ScienceofTeaching it is probably a good thing that you didn't have a treadmill to try out your new shoes. I tried my new Endorphin Speed 2 shoes on a treadmill when I first got them. I was very disappointed. But the next day I took them outside and LOVED them. So you never really know 😉5

@quilteryoyo @SummerSkier ladies, first alcoholic drink of 2023!
Side note-
@Scott6255 @martaindale after your Marathons, how was the first week eating-wise? I'm always hungry!? I'm eating in week T+1, like it's T-1. Started running again since Wednesday... But just hungry. Trying to portion control... But other day, couldn't sleep, hungry at 11pm ish... "Fancied something sweet"... Ended up eating not one, but three(!!) Snickers ice cream bars! 🤦4 -

I was pretty hungry for the first couple of days afterwards as my body was working hard to replenish all those depleted resources. After that, things were pretty much back to normal. But, my first week was much heavier on recovery than yours has been. I did some walking but didn’t run at all, so I wasn’t burning a ton of extra calories on top of the post-marathon recovery.

@tarun_yadavA I honestly don't remember 😉 so I'm going to say it was pretty much normal. After a run I am never hungry...I have to force myself to eat a little something. But several hours later I am back to myself... needing to eat every few hours.
Today was pretty tough. Got 11 miles in, but wasn't really feeling it. Phone said it was 50°F but the 17mph cold north wind made it feel really cold (for me)

Had a really nice long run today. Cool and mostly cloudy with just a little wind. Low wind is a real treat out here. As I finished out mile 9, I realized that if I went for a fast finish, I could maybe beat 2 hours. Totally arbitrary but I decided to try to make it. If it were flat, it wouldn’t have been an issue but there are some decent hills on the back end of my route so it was a good challenge. Had to run harder up a couple of hills faster than I usually would on a long run but managed to finish in 1:59:33. Made it! Now I get to watch some TV and chill on the couch. Maybe sit by the fire pit for a bit tonight with a glass of wine.
As an aside, birthday cake Gu is delish. I think I’ve had it once or twice before but it’s been a while. It’s not a flavor my running store usually carries but they had it when I stocked up last time. Now I need to go back and get a few more!6 -

I know quite a few people who are like you but this is definitely not a problem I have! I usually eat a big meal pretty quickly after a run, and it always tastes like the best thing I’ve had in forever. Then I just sort of snack the rest of the day.3 -
@tarun_yadavA Glad to see you are being sociable again.
@Scott6255 Great run in those conditions.
@martaindale Great push at the end to beat 2 hours! You're evening plans sound divine.
I was tired and lazy today, so decided on a treadmill wun. I walked the first mile and then ran enough at 4.2 mph to keep my HR above 100 bpm for the rest of the wun. It was easy, but what I think I needed today. I wun a total of 2.50 miles. Avg HR was 103. Max was 122.

Interesting point about the treadmill! I hadn't thought of that.
I went to a local high school's track to try them out. Did about 20 minute run/walk combo and wasn't sure how I felt about the shoes. Them rested for half hour and did another 30 min of run/walk intervals, and I really liked the shoes. So I guess it was taking me time to get used to them.4 -
Good morning everyone
Got in 7 today!8 -
Feb 1 – 5.34 miles
Feb 4 – 9.07 miles

Feb 13 – 5.06 miles
Feb 15 – 3.1 miles
Feb 16 – 5.02 miles
Feb 18 – 12.01 miles
Yesterday, most of my normal running buddies were either out of town, running a local 10K race, or otherwise tied up so I decided to go to another town and get my run in for a change of scenery and since it was just me I didn’t have to coordinate time or meeting place which can sometimes just be exhausting in and of itself! It was 25F when I started but the sun was shining and it didn’t long to get warmed up. I came back by my car around 7.5 miles, got a drink of water and shed a layer. After that I was regretting leaving my gloves in the car. I wasn’t cold any other place but my fingers. I finished out 12 miles even though the last mile was a lot of run/walk mix. It was 34F when I finished.
@Scott6255 – I’m also not hungry after a run. Yesterday, I didn’t fuel along the way (poor planning on my part) so when I finished I had a protein bar in the car that I made myself eat. That was around 10:30 am and I didn’t eat again until around 4:00 pm.
@martaindale – I love the birthday cake gus too!
@ScienceofTeaching – We need a picture of the new shoes (or shoe porn as we call it around here)! Glad you liked them better on your second run.
