Keto with IF

I am starting my healthy lifestyle journey on Sunday. I’ve done hours and hours of research on what would work best for me and it’s keto with intermittent fasting. Is anyone else on this program or interested in it? I would love to connect to help keep each other accountable and share recipes, tips, snacks etc. please add me!

Ketogenic diets are basically a therapy intervention for different health related situations that the diet industry has adopted as a possible way to lose weight and IF in it's clinical definition has nothing to do with losing weight or calorie consumption that the dieting industry seems to like as well, so I'd like to ask what kind of research have you done where this would somehow make it the ideal situation for you. I'm not saying these wouldn't benefit you, just curious. Cheers

I think you should add in lowfat and vegan.

    Kidding.

Seriously, try your IF Keto plan and see if you like it and can stick to it.

For me, it was hard enough to try to stay within calories and get enough protein - without the added stress of low carb or time restriction.

I lost 80 pounds and have kept it off for 15 years using this site.

Whatever "plan" is easiest for you to follow and is one with a sustainable future is the one I would suggest you use.

Keto for me isn't something I'd do long-term. Keto makes me tense and irritable and I can't stick to it. I don't need any more checked boxes on the failure side when weight loss is already a slog. Lower (but not Keto low) carb works just as well for me for weight loss. Like about 125-150g carbs per day on 1500 calories per day plus a couple hundred calories more on exercise days seems to be my sweet spot for weight loss. I can still have some bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, dairy and fruit, and I don't want to bite peoples' heads off. That's important.

Do you enjoy generally eating a high fat diet and carbs don't fill you up and you don't like them? Do you think you adhere to eating less if you have a smaller feeding window? And do you see yourself continuing eating this way after you've lost the weight you want to lose? If so: Congratuations, this might be the right way of eating for you. If not then please consider again and don't set yourself up for failure. Neither IF nor keto have any effect on weight loss. Eating less calories is the only way that does. If eating like this feel natural to you then yeah, go for it.

I guess I can count my lucky stars that I'm low carb and not keto. Cheers

I tried IF for a couple of weeks last spring. Did not see dramatic change in pounds loss as compared to low carb/high fat (good fats) as others have stated. Of course, also as stated, if it works for you than stick with it. I have just started GoLo 5 days ago and am religious in recording everything in MFP. Down 3 pound ( all water weight...but still!). I agree with other comments that it's calories/in - exercise out that works with weight loss. And of course the obvious....keep away from high carbs; "everything "white" and sweet is what works for me! Good luck everyone. Question...when entering individual ingredients to name a meal and it appears on the right of your screen...how do you go about adding that particular recipe to a particular day???

You'll find more keto fans in the Low Carb group: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum

Here on the main boards this is the prevailing sentiment (with which I agree):
