Just Give Me 10 Days - Round 223

Thank you everyone for being here for another round! I'm back too! Still have work to do! Intended to figure out how to fit kettlebells back into my life last round...and didn't even look at the set in the basement. Maybe this round?!?! My last two rounds have been very successful with tracking nutrition and staying active outside....but I'm thinking I need to work on body composition as well as just the number on the scale.
Female - 51yrs - 5'5"
Goal Weight - to hang out somewhere 145-150
R222 EW - 5/11 - 167.0
5/12 - 166.8 - continuing downward. Heading up to my parents place this evening for the weekend. Might bring my scale or use Moms. DS17 has a training shift for his summer job...and it's Mothers Day on Sunday so there are a few things planned that will limit my control on the food available but I'll do my best....and I'll probably want a cocktail on the dock tomorrow if this weather holds up.

Please join us starting on 5/12 for JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS, when we will begin Round 223!
Anyone can join us at anytime during the round.
Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.
Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!
Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. You have only one hour to edit your post. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.
If you feel your post is too lengthy, you can add spoilers to temporarily hide the information. It is readily available by tapping the SPOILER bar. To create a Spoiler just type or copy [ Spoiler ] xxx [ /Spoiler ] Omit the spaces within the brackets and put your information where I have xxx.
Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.

5/12 146.2 (trend 146.6) I had a bit of a weight spike over night, probably just water weight from carby snacks last night as I went a bit crazy with bread sticks and veggies with dip. I picked up my husband from the airport yesterday evening and was starving hungry after 6 hours in the car, so lost a bit of control. We also went to the pub for a pint and a catch up, so that didn't help! I'm glad to be getting back to my normal routine but also a bit worried about the extra temptation that spending time with someone who is a foody and eats whatever he wants, brings. I already had to talk him out of a takeaway last night! Fitted in a 4.5 walk in the morning, but no gym.

Ok, good start to the new round. Yesterday I kept my calories extremely low —880 — and while not a smart or sustainable number, once in a while it’s fine, and made me feel more in control. I also took two 30 min walks, and worked 3 hours on my garden makeover. All good. I’m feeling a bit more optimistic and am hoping for a reductive round. 🙂

@Huango @quiltingjaine and any others interested. Continuing the cholesterol test result convo over here since round 222 has ended. Seemed more productive here.
@Huango, that dish looks delicious, and great as a meal. If I were single, and lived alone, I could see adapting to FoK, but living real life with husband, kids, grandkids, and friends, I think I need to eat more traditionally, just better than I am.
So, I listened/watched several Youtubes and podcasts. You can check them out as well. I certainly would love feedback on if I am listening to quacks. :P
What do others know on this topic?
The CHOLESTEROL PANEL Explained | Dr. Robert Lustig & Dr. Casey Means
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUaOqiIJbyM (note, it starts oddly)
Was very interesting, and listened to it twice.
Take away: Total cholesterol is “meaningless”, it is the components that matter. If LDL is high, before being concerned, the Trigliceride/HDL should be calculated. Best under 1.5. For Caucasians, >2.5 is bad, and >1.5 for African americans, and lower is better. LDL is best under 100, and HDL really should be greater than 60 if you can, but this number apparently has a genetic component. Sugar turns into VLDL which turns into sdLDL, which is the bad component of ones LD that is not broken out by the test, but can be extrapolated by ones Tri and VLDL numbers. Remove sugar from diet to best get numbers in line. To check on liver function, which relates to all the above, look at ones ALT. General population one should be under 25, and 20 for African americans. Lastly, if one can obtain a fasting insulin test, the number should be under 6.0.
My own numbers on printout:
Total Cholesterol 229 which is greater than 200 and flagged “high”, but ignoring for now
Triglycerides, after 13 hour fast were 88 and below the 150 (good)
HDL, 64 > 40 (good)
LDL, 147 > 130 and flagged High
Non-HDH, 165 and >160, and flagged high
VLDL 18 and perfect
Ratio Chol/HDL 3.6 and perfect
But now my tri/HCL ratio is 1.375 and nicely under 1.5, so according to video that is perfect. My ALT is 13, which is nicely under 25, so liver is running “good”. VLDL is great, so my “bad” LDL should be made up more of the hbLDL which is cardiac neutral.
All and all, I feel better about the number, BASED ON THIS VIDEO.
How to Read and Understand Your Cholesterol Levels
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBXOB3J3b6w
Take aways: cholesterol important for skin, hormones, brain activity. Side effect of low cholesterol and statins is memory loss. Discussed LDL and HDL as cholesterol transport vehicles. LDL should be under 130. HDL male >40, female >47. Triglicerides <150. Tri/HDL < 2 good, >6 bad. Clean up cholesterol by removing sugars, refined carbs, and alcohol. Taking statins based on total C is wrong. 75% cholesterol is made in body, 25% is from diet.
Podcasts from Optimal health daily:
Listened to episodes 2124 and 1865:
Take aways: get soluble fiber (removes cholesterol), Omega 3’s good, 25% of all your cholesterol is in your brain making up the myelin and essential for learning and memory, sleep is key. Stains have memory loss as side effect.
“Health rarely comes out of a bottle”
7 Foods That Lower Bad Cholesterol (LDL)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVaFEanJAUs
Take aways: ask for Advanced Lipid profile test LDL-P, sdLDL leads to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity and is atherogenic due to glycation and oxidation. sdLDL number is 3X predictor of cardiac disease. Statins will lower “total cholesterol” but do not lower sdLDL and may even increase it. Can lower via diet (cut out sugar and refined carbs), exercise, TUDCA. Good foods are avocados, fish oil w/ Omega 3/EPA, EVOO (the real stuff), pistachios, dark chocolate (no sugar ), almonds, walnuts.
Will keep listening. Definitely looking for discussion, in any direction. Enjoy!
On another note, I looked at my parents labs and med lists, and a lot of the above makes sense in the context of their health statuses.2 -

05/11 …..195.3….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
05/12 -195.3- (Trend weight 193.9) Not a lot of activity yesterday. Beauty shop and then visited my elderly friend who just got out of the hospital. I got her out sitting on her porch for awhile to lift her spirits. My diet yesterday was so-so. Healthy, but the portions were uncalled for.

5/12 - 122.2. That’s nice! Close to maintenance range! Maybe I can behave myself this weekend. I struggle when the kids are home because I can't really fast or I get impatient with the boys' antics. Just have to make good choices. I need to get a good workout in today. I haven't all week. I've been riding my new ebike around, but it's not much of a workout with the motor. On an unrelated note, since we talk about pets so much here, we had a vet appointment for the two dogs and the cat yesterday, and my dog Pancake has a mass that needs to be excised. I really hope she doesn't have cancer. The vet said since it was hard it concerned her, and it was difficult for her to move which indicates it's in her deeper tissue. We have a consult appointment at another vet next week because the mobile vet doesn't operate. Hoping everything goes okay there. She drives me crazy but she's the most loving girl. We would be devastated if we lost her prematurely (she's only 6).

Hi, I'm Charissa - Round 223
Thank you, again, @QuiltingJaine for hosting this challenge!
Round 222 not the best. My take-a-way: lack of planning. Not just meal planning but event planning. Cinco de Mayo snuck up on me but I tried to manage the intake. Then my derailment came with my husband's surgery. Poor food choices and wine to end the day. Must get back on track in this round. The good news, I didn't totally erase the progress made in round 221! There's hope!

Projection/Actual
5/12 ~ 216.5/216.3 ~ New Round🙂 Yesterday was almost normal. Stayed within calorie budget, got my steps in. Short on water and didn't focus on hunger levels. Husband is back home, now the real fun begins!!!
@huango ~ FOK looks interesting. My husband has always joked about going vegan and I never really considered it....but I took a look at a few recipes and I may try it for a week.... or maybe a meal each day.... My only concern is the carbs. My body usually gains with carbs but maybe with the lack of meat it will behave differently?? Worth a try and probably a good time for my husband recovering from surgery as he won't be as mobile.

Goals This Round: more water and more exercise. I've got my food under control, but I haven't done much in the way of exercise for the past round.
5/12 160.8 TOM is coming! Drinking tons of water today. I bought collagen peptides today and am going to try them out. Thus morning I did a Costco run and laughed at how different my cart has become in the last few months. I have gotten to a point where shopping and cooking healthy is becoming easier and more natural. I think in another month I may try to cut down to only tracking protein for a couple of weeks and see how well I do with it. I'm averaging 1-2 lbs lost every 10 days, which is completely wonderful with me, so if I can maintain that progress by just eating how I have been but not obsessively tracking, I feel like I can keep it up long term. We'll see.

Hi all! I'm back again!
I left for two months ish, and my weight just keeps creeping up. Not this week.
I'm going to try weighing only two other times this challenge. Hopefully the uncertainty will have me stick to my efforts. When I don't know, I get anxious wondering if I've done enough!

5.12.2023 - ⬇️ 170.6 😳 Nice! I drank tons of h20 so hopefully that did the trick! My lowest weight to date since I started in Feb ‘22! YAY! 🎉 strength & cardio at the gym tonight. I also sat in the sauna for about 10 minutes. I did eat 2 squares of pizza for dinner - I’m hoping that doesn’t screw me. Downing some more water!

Hi all
I am kavya. I Would love to do this with all you wonderful achievers. I have been lazy trying to do all different ways to loose but nothing is helping.
👍👍This is NOT A DIET. It’s a LIFESTYLE
Love this I want it to be lifestyle change. I will be diligent and get some workout.

Starting weight for R223: 159.8 lbs
R223 Goal Weight: 155 lbs
Looking forward to another round! Keeping up my 10K+ steps daily and staying under calories is the main goal while recovering from an injury. I dropped a lot in the last round, so I'm curious if the trend continues or if I experience some stagnation this round.
5/12 - 159.8 lbs
5/13 - 161.1 (+1.3) Stayed under calories and got 13K steps. I did eat a dinner that was very high in sodium, so I’m sure that explains the fluctuation.5/14
