i guess you meant "bread" and not "beard." i have found that white beard actually has zero calories. (LOL) :noway:

white bread is very processed and you are getting very little of the original nutrition. i am not eating bread these days at all, not even "whole wheat" so i'm probably not the one to ask.

It isn't "bad" per se, but when compared to the nutrients in whole grain (and true whole grains, with whole grains in the ingredient list) breads, it is lacking a bit. But eat it if you like it and it fits in your daily calories.

As many people around here say: IIFYM (If it fits your macros), go for it!

My main problem with it is that it's just not GOOD for you. There is little to no nutritional value in a slice of white bread, whereas, with whole wheat, you do at least get some nutrients and fiber. It's basically just empty calories.

White beards make you look old and open you up to being forced to dress as Santa at Christmas. If that's how you get your jollies go for it but I say dye it or shave it.

Have you ever actually compared the nutritional values of white bread vs. whole wheat? They are almost identical... although wheat bread does often have more fiber, it typically has more sugar as well.

Either way, I think everyone should eat the type of bread they like as long as it fits their macros.

    Wrong.

The nutritional value between white and whole wheat is exactly the same with the only difference being a few grams of additional fiber.

white beards are the cause of the downfall of society as we know it. Everything that is bad with this world can be traced back to white beard.

There is nothing wrong with white bread. Like everything else, eat in moderation.

Its highly processed and basically all then nutrients are taken out of it. Something can be low calories or non fat and not be good for you. If you are going to eat bread you should get whole grain because you will actually benefit from eating it, instead of just consuming empty calories. Sarah lee makes some whole wheat 65 calorie bread if you are wanting something low in calories. I have some whole wheat bread right now thats made by Franz bread and its 100 calories per slice.

Only the ignorant beleive calories are the sole determinant of if a food is "good"/"bad". Frankly labeling foods good or bad is silly as well

    1) caloric density has nothing to with the nutritional value of a particular food. There are numerous foods out there that are extremely calorie dense, but also very nutrient dense and very good for you. Conversely, there are numerous foods that are caloricly void...but also nutritionally void.

    2) It's not that white bread is "bad" per sei...as compared to whole grain breads, it simply lacks nutrition in comparison. Also, not the best option if you are diabetic or otherwise insulin sensitive.

Ahhhh, that makes more sense, I was wondering what the problem would be with a white beard........

Those that follow a low glycemic diet (I did for about a year and lost 5 stone) say that white bread is bad because it has a high glycemic value which, when eaten, creates a spike in your blood sugar. It then follows you will get a big trough in your blood sugar cos those that are bigger find it difficult to regulate their insulin levels and they produce too much. As such you then feel hungry really quickly and sometime eat more. There is a also a theory that once your blood sugar gets into that trough then you body will take the fat out of the food and store it as it's 'hungry'

Please note: I am no expert in these things but I do know that low gi worked for me and perhaps the reasons are stated above... I now calorie count cos it allows me to eat more of a variety of things including white bread and the occasional beard ;)

it's around 100 cals a slice, it's very easy to eat quickly and not very filling, i.e. I could put away 4-6 slices in one meal very easily, yet it doesn't add much in the way of micronutrients. Also, the starch in it gets broken down into sugar more quickly than in wholegrain bread, because it's more refined, and then it gets in the blood more quickly, which is an issue for people with diabetes, pre-diabetes or a family history of diabetes, although eating it as part of a meal helps to lessen that effect.

That said, in some circumstances it can be good, e.g. if you're trying to gain weight and struggling to eat enough, and you find eating white bread easy, it's a good way to bump up your calorie intake without getting full up. I eat white bread sandwiches when bulking for this reason.

Also, I don't agree with demonising food. Some people act like certain foods are the devil. No food is the devil, and foods are not healthy or unhealthy in isolation..... someone's entire diet is either healthy or unhealthy. You can include quite a bit of so-called unhealthy foods in a healthy diet, so long as you're getting all the nutrition your body needs and are not eating too much overall and gaining fat.

First) If a calorie is a unit of measure, how can it be empty?

    2) Refer to the chart posted above....there's not that much different between wheat and white

    III) White bread is yummy.

White beards make you look old.

As far as food goes - there's more to food than just the calories. Jelly beans don't have very many calories - doesn't make them a health food.
