Get some moderate exercise 4-5 days per week.
Step on the body weight scale every day and record it somewhere.1 -
Start counting your calories but make sure you are getting enough protein and fiber in your diet. Weigh your food and track everything because it is so easy for extra calories to add up without realizing it. If you start to gain or hit a plateau, reduce your calories by a little more. Try not to go over board but realize the weight did not come on overnight and you cannot expect it to leave overnight. I also like adding apple cider vinegar in my water, it seems to help and it gives me some energy.0

Doesn't do anything for weight loss. If you enjoy it, that's another thing.3 -
I have read that apple cider vinegar helps to get rid of excess weight but it was on a small study. Apple Cider vinegar does have other positive affects on your cholesterol.1

I'm also 179lbs as of today in the scales. I also would like to be 120.my goal is 123 as I remember being 123 before, a long time ago, over ten years ago.
Currently doing the give me ten days challenge. Although I've not been doing so well past few days.
I'm trying meal prepping and incorporating salads soups herbal teas into my diet. I'm also waiting on some supplements arriving (inno supps)
I recently blew up and put on two stone again after losing it took a year or two of slimming world Etc. I stopped smoking and everything tasted soo good. So back trying to get to 123. It's around 60lbs from my heaviest last week.

I think the best plan is to make lifestyle changes instead of thinking of it as temporary restrictions. That's the best way to avoid falling off the wagon and gaining back with interest. Find a lifestyle with a way of eating and exercising that fits you, that's working for you and making you healthy, that your dr. is happy with, and just adopt new habits. Best of luck!2

Good advice above, mostly.
Find ways to change routine eating and activity habits/patterns in ways that gradually increase activity (exercise and daily life) and reduce calories (from all sources, while staying as full and happy as possible and getting overall reasonable nutrition).
Extreme tactics tend not to last long, for various reasons. For people like me with a lifelong tendency toward overweight, weight management is a forever endeavor, not a temporary project with an end date.
For me, finding routine habits that are easy and practical, that I can continue almost on autopilot when other parts of life get demanding - that's what's worked for me for 7+ years in maintenance after initial loss of 50-ish pounds.
Best wishes!pattifishellpage wrote: »I have read that apple cider vinegar helps to get rid of excess weight but it was on a small study. Apple Cider vinegar does have other positive affects on your cholesterol.
Minor effects, at most, from the research I've seen.
I drank ACV daily for weeks at a time during weight loss, didn't drink it for other weeks at a time. It made zero observable difference in my weight loss rate or my appetite. YMMV.

Toy around with what you eat to find what works best for you.
For me, I finally started finding success the more I lowered carbs & raised fats. I enjoy what I eat, find it easy to prepare, it's affordable, it keeps me satiated, I don't feel like I'm struggling to keep it up (it just is a natural fit with me), I feel my health improving, and my dr visits/lab works backs it up. It's not a temporary situation-- even if I get to my goal weight I may have to tweak it to maintain but this is basically it for life, or at least until it's not working anymore.
For some people, veganism was their way to go. For some, a more balanced diet is optimal and most natural. Some like 6 small meals per day, some people like one meal a day and fasting. and feel it fits their lifestyle better.
Just find your sweet spot.1
