LESS Alcohol ~ OCTOBER 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

Happy Friday everyone!
@MissMay welcome back from your vacation, you did amazingly well with LA goals! Thanks too for the reminder to think before we drink.
@globalhiker I believe making the world a better place is a big part of why we’re here!
LaMarca Prosecco is my favorite Prosecco now and then. Good to know about the calories!
@Womona feel better soon! I came to this thread last February when I had a terrible sinusitis and you’re right, smaller portions and no alcohol works (if dropping weight is a goal) every time, lol. Congrats on reaching your WL goals!
Since October 1st, I have had more A days than planned (3 total). The only saving grace is that I have stayed within limits much better this month and achieved LA (per A day). Now I need/want to make up my AF days before our vacation starts next weekend.
I can get too obsessed thinking about A at times, can you tell?…but also need that balance of “having a plan” for LA for my own accountability.
Tonight my DH and I are going out for dinner and the theater with my DS and wife, and naturally I am excited. I planned to have a glass of wine at the Italian restaurant, but if others are abstaining, then I will have no problem doing so. They also do LA on a regular basis, of which I’m very happy about.

Good Saturday morning L.A. group.
I had wanted to share something that happened our first few days of vacation.
We needed to stock our refrigerator in our room kitchen. Eating out is nice, but it is also nice to have food and beverages in the suite.
Off we go shopping. I ver off to hunt for solid food. Husband darts to to beer and liquor aisle.
We meet up in the store 10- 15 minutes later. He has a variety of beverages. I have fresh fruits, soups, gyros, breakfast cereals, etc.
He was proud to announce he had found a tiny 6 pack of " pink bubbles" for me. As I looked at the pack I was amazed and happy and said YAY out loud. I am sure the entire store heard me.
Back at our suite. He was protective of the pink bubble bottles. He lined them up carefully to the coldest part of the frig. Told me I would have to wait for them to chill.
Many hours later after we returned from walking Vegas, he wanted to know if I wanted a glass with pink bubbles( oh come on...it is kinda cute how he is referring to this beverage).
He pours himself an A drink. Pours my pink bubbles and we enjoy. Wash, rinse, repeat. This goes on for a few more days. Finally one morning I see him confused looking at an empty pink bubbles bottle.
He says you know, there is NO alcohol in (now he has a new name for my pink bubbles) "THIS STUFF".
Ya, I know, I replied. It looks like pink prosecco doesn't it? Wait...you didn't know it was alcohol free when you bought it for me, I thought that was why you put it in the cart?
NOW he says, well that was kinda pricey for not having alcohol in it. And I say, well no matter it made me happy to be drinking pink non alcoholic bubbles in a stemmed glass on a balcony in Las Vegas (as I stick out my tongue like a 5th grader)
Here all those days he thought I was having ALCOHOL and was delighted. Then he finds out it is Fever Tree non alcoholic and is disappointed.
Go figure?

@MissMay Fever-Tree NA sparkling beverages are so good - the Sicilian lemonade is my favorite.
Accountability….I am updating my goal to 17 AF days for this month….It was a big month for festivals, birthdays, dinner out and vacation that starts on the 27th. This week is back on track with clean eating and AF days.

Staying on track, more or less. Finally feeling a bit better, symptoms of the mysterious Burning Mouth Syndrome have subsided with prescription. I'll take that a few more days then see how it is without the medication.
Has anyone else had this mysterious condition?2 -

Definitely AF today because I overdid it last night and feel so icky today5 -
Thanks everyone for your inspirations. I've tried Fevertree but not the cucumber one. Now I am curious.
10/20-AF, no problem, didn't think of drinking, power-walked 2 hours.
10/21-AF, bad sleep, woke up at 3 a.m., then took a long nap in the afternoon, felt jet lagged all day, still went to the gym.
10/22-AF, very irritable since I am also on a very low-carb diet (doctor's orders), DAY-DREAMING of running off to an Italian restaurant, sitting in a corner and consuming a plateful of pasta along with Italian wines. I really just wanted to drive off by myself and do this and just pig out.
On the plus side - I am dropping weight and not drinking several days in a row does "de-bloat" my tummy.
I'm going to fight through this AF/A yo-yo-ing. The longer the AF streak, the better I feel and the better I look.

@tmbg1 : I've been there so many times and it doesn't take much these days. Well, as I said above: yesterday is history (and you know the rest). I find that rest, hydration, and a little activity are the best treatments for a low-grade hangover.
We had a wonderful birthday party for my wife last night at a fantastic restaurant, and I had two delicious 12oz craft American Pale Ales with dinner. Since I've been dry for several weeks, they were more than enough to loosen me up. And, of course, I had a little trouble sleeping. But, I had a lot of outdoor time with the dog and a great nap this afternoon, so all good!

Once you start incorporating AF days into your lifestyle your body's resistance to alcohol becomes less tolerant.
This is actually a "good" warning device in my mind. It reminds us that the path we were heading having LESS alcohol is much smoother.
You are not alone with this tiny back slide. I have and probably will do this again in my journey as well.
Recoup, hydrate and get back to your awesome goals.3 -
In reference to my comments above to tmbg1.
It was almost a year ago next week this same occurrence happened to me.
We were busting our butts to move into our new townhouse after moving 1,600 miles from our previous state and home of 40 years.
After the hectic new home set up I finally relaxed, enough to have multiple glasses of prosecco without letting my glass dry out in between refills.
Then I wanted to WALK to a halloween event down the road. We get there and I was so excited that I had been AF for a good part of our move that my drinks earlier(an hour eariler) decided they wanted to drink.
Next thing I knew everyone was asking me if I was OK? I guess my face turned pale white and I stopped talking. We managed to get back home by walking, YIKES THAT SOUNDS SCARY TO ADMIT.
Anyhow, my husband still reminds me of that evening, not that I ever forgot it.
But this is how the following quote plays into the picture

Oh my goodness- no, but it sounds awful! Glad you’re on the mend.1 -
@MissMay thanks for the Fever Tree recommendations. I’ve seen the pink grapefruit at the market, but because I don’t care for grapefruit, I’ve never reached for it. I’ll definitely give it a try!
We had a big party to celebrate DS1’s commissioning. He’s now an officer in the Army National Guard! So proud. I was stressed getting things set up at the restaurant and sucked down 5 mimosas. Luckily each only counts as half a glass of champagne, but still. Huge long nap yesterday after the brunch. Nothing tonight except for 3 sips of my husband’s and’s wine.2 -
Alarm goes off at 6;00am. I am awake, but enjoying the comfort of the soft plush blanket.
6:14am I reopen my eyes and my first thought is how wonderful.it is to wake up without the residue of alcohol in my system.
Gonna be a 👍day!

Thanks for the insightful shares everyone. I do know how ‘the drink’ can take over even with one’s best intentions.
So worthy of the reminder @MissMay.
I’ve been happily planning a vacation and doing many social activities in the month. I shared how I have found myself wanting some wine all last week which is a newer feeling. I veered off my very planned AF days for a minute! But realizing this I made sure I kept to my resolve last night to stay AF. Feels great to wake up knowing this! Heading to a studio class at the gym now.
Have a great day!

The Fever Tree Pink Grapefruit is AMAZING! Thanks for the recommendation @MissMay. It’s perfect. Not too sweet, not too sour/ grapefruity. Magic bubbles in a glass, indeed. In a wine glass is even better! AF tonight, just 3 sips of my husband’s wine. Beats an entire glass!3

So happy so many of you are trying and enjoying the fever tree products. I really want to find the cucumber sparkles, it sounds refreshing.
This was my drink of choice tonight. Of course a stemmed glass made it perfect.
Another AF in the books

Very happy to report I stayed true to my AF goals for the last 3 days in a row. Also found the Olipop prebiotic sodas to be very tasty. Tried several fruit flavors, and only 35 calories - very good if you want some good gut support too! I’m now on the hunt for crisp apple.
AF continues…
