Strenght training on MFP and activity level

I was wondering, why are the strengh training exercise not considered as exercise in MFP (that burns calories) ? Because I do strenght training 4 times a week for around 35min, and I mean it still burns calories
Also; I don't know if I'm not active or slightly active. I stay sitting most of the day because I'm a student (6h-9h sitting) but I still manage to get 10k steps a day, sometimes a bit more. If you have any advice on this, help would be appreciated !

They have a strength training one you can select under cardio exercises. Just go into cardio, then type strength training.0

For the question of whether to list yourself as "active" or "slightly active" or "sedentary", part of the answer relies on how diligently you post, along with historical results.
For the first part, if you are likely to login to the app/website every day and be hyper-accurate about how much exercise you did, it may be a good idea to choose a lower activity preset, that way you're not double-counting exercise calories. If you prefer to focus exclusively on the food portion of the equation, but are "on average" active, you can select a higher activity preset and just leave it at that.
Regardless which you choose above, keep track over the next four weeks. If you are losing weight faster than expected, maybe you can increase the activity preset; if you are losing slower (or not at all), choose a lower activity preset. Be aware this analysis should be performed every few months regardless past success, as our bodies change over time.2 -

Yes I know but what bothers me is that the calories are not being adjusted even though I do workout so idk if I should eat more than the recommended or not. (trying to gain weight)0 -
I don't understand your last post...calories not being adjusted after you input time in the "cardio - strength training" exercise?0

Sorry english isn't my first language. what I mean is that when I put my strenght training exercises, they don't count as "calories burned", while it does for cardio exercise. For cardio, my calories are upped but nothing happens if I register strenght training exercise
hope it makes more sense!0 -
Yes, I see. And your English is very good.
Lifting weights definitely does burn calories. On MFP, you can record under "strength" what you do, as a record of exercises, sets, reps, weights, all that stuff. But asking MFP to determine how many calories are burned from an intense squat session compared to an easy squat session, let alone the hundreds of different possible lifts, is asking for a vast array of databases for MFP to record, monitor and interpret.
Instead, MFP will add calories to your day using a generic "cardio - strength training" as a one-size-fits-all category. Is it going to be accurate for all cases, such as the above example? Nope. But it's going to be relatively close.
Personally, I record time spent lifting under the "cardio - strength training" section so I get calories added to my daily total. But I don't bother recording specific exercises, sets and such on MFP. I maintain a notebook for that. Some people prefer an Excel document, or other websites which allow you to track every smallest detail of every lifting session, with graphs over time and more. But for MFP, I only want it to spit out an average calories burned, which the "cardio" entry will do.
Hope that answers your question better.0 -
He's saying to add it like this (this is how it looks in web MFP, but you can do it in phone/tablet MFP, too):
