Hit double digit weight loss.

So braved the scale since deciding to get my weight under control and I’m down 11 lbs since July. Now to continue taking off or at least maintain what I have accomplished over the winter. I’m a comfort food girl and carbs are my kryptonite. Any suggestions on how to tackle these upcoming months and holidays?

There's a pretty good current thread about handling holiday season:

As far as comfort foods, I think it's figuring out ways to lighten up recipes calorically, or manage portion sizes.

I don't know which carbs you're struggling with, so it's hard to say anything about that.

What works for one person won't work for another. I'll give you some ideas. You can try them and see what works.

    PLANNING
    • If you know you are going to a holiday dinner or party where will have something you really want, plan for it. For many, it's easy to turn down the sad box donut, if you are saving your carbs for Peach Pie at grandma's.
    • If you are going to cut carbs, you'll probably want to add a little healthy fat. A little healthy fat with protein will help curb the carb craving.
    • If you are going to eat 'fun' carbs, try to eat them earlier in the day. Just avoid them for dinner. Why? you are more likely to get a blood sugar spike at dinner and they are just more likely to be stored as fat during dinner. You can google. So if you really want a donut, plan for it and have it earlier in the day.
    • Try only eating high-quality carbs if you eat them. Non-starchy veggies or low-processed grains.

    [/list]

I hope some of this helps--if not, toss it and do what works for you.

Thank you so much for all the great ideas. Definitely going to look into that Keto cheese puff recipe. Oh and ranch seasoning is definitely going on my popcorn from now on.

I love comfort foods and have found abstinence is a bad plan for me. I either find a lower calorie version, or just make the normal but control portions. This can be a little bit frustrating as its just good food and you want more. I supplement with a good salad or my favorite snack/side of air fryer veggies. I usually use cauliflower over broccoli, but they are both amazing and I have totally just eaten a head of one for a meal, well most of a head. It's filling.

I’ve found that the high fiber in Metamucil before indulging helps me with portion control. I’ll have it right before I walk out the door to the party.
