Hello, and welcome to the Community side of MFP!

I'm 68, and found MFP super helpful for losing weight (at age 59-60) and maintaining a healthy weight ever since (after around 30 previous years of overweight/obesity).

Starting swimming and Pilates sounds like a positive step for improving health/fitness. For sure, reducing unnecessary added sugar is one way to reduce calories while prioritizing good nutrition. It sounds like you're off to a good start!

With apologies, I have to admit, I'm a sub-par player the MFP friends side of the app (more of a Community forum gal, I guess). On top of that, I'm not a great accountability buddy. (People vary, but for me accountability is internal, maybe because I'm introverted; chatting with others here gives me ideas to try, though, and keeps my head in the game.) I did want to stop by your intro thread here, though, to say "hi" and wish you success.

If you haven't run across it, you might enjoy this thread:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10718336/60-yrs-and-up#latest

There are lots of 60+ people who've contributed there, and it can be a good place to chat or ask questions among age peers.

Don't worry if you open it up and see old posts. It's still active. Like any long-running thread on MFP, the newest posts are at the end, on the high-numbered pages. You can skip straight there with the number/arrow links near the bottom of the first page. Reading the most recent couple of pages will give you a feel for the participants.

I'd also encourage you to engage with the general Community, too: My perception is that everyone with weight-management goals has more in common than not, regardless of age. There are some minor differences, but so very much all ages share when it comes to challenges and strategies.

If you're looking for more of an accountability support, you might enjoy some of the threads in the Challenges or Motivation parts of the Community (or groups announced in threads there). If you go to those areas, you can read the intro posts for ones that look interesting, decide if something fits you, and join in according to what's in the intro post. That can be a great way to get support and feel more accountable. These are direct links to those parts of the Community:

I'm cheering for you to succeed with your goals: The results in improved quality of life are worth it!
