The MFP default macro percents are a decent starting point for most people, as long as they don't cut calories too low trying to lose super-fast. (There's no way to get adequate nutrition on too few calories.)

If you want to increase protein, this thread may be helpful:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10247171/carbs-and-fats-are-cheap-heres-a-guide-to-getting-your-proteins-worth-fiber-also

It links to a spreadsheet that lists many, many foods in order by most protein for fewest calories. Find foods you like in that spreadsheet, eat those more often or in bigger portions, and eat a little less of something else that isn't as important to you for tastiness or nutrition. Figuring out the personally best way to spend our calorie budget is something each of us needs to figure out sooner or later!

If your key goal is weight management (loss/gain/maintenance), calorie level is the direct factor in that. Macros are for nutrition, health, feeling full, and that sort of thing. Macros can have an indirect effect on weight loss: Sub-par nutrition can cause fatigue (so we move less and burn fewer calories than expected) or can spike appetite (so we struggle to stick with our calorie goal). The direct effect on body weight is still via the calories.

Everyone does need a certain minimum of protein and fat, but beyond that there's some flexibility. Maybe start logging your food, see how you feel. If you're low on something (like protein), you can gradually work at improving that by reviewing your diary and changing routine eating patterns.

It doesn't have to be perfect instantly. Trying to optimize everything all at once can be overwhelming! Gradual progress is progress, and the majority of our days will determine the majority of our outcome. No need to stress over the occasional day that doesn't quite hit the mark.

    Best wishes!
