@BarbMessimer Thanks for chiming in regarding our group forum. I believe that it is wonderful to share like minded views and opinions. It is also good to read about some of the strategies that others might incorporate to be successful on their health and wellness journeys.
Losing the "diet thinking" is a challenge of itself.

    @Joy1580vb Fellow Albertan here. A big thank you and your family for the hard work;
contributing to our food supply. My family comes from a farming background.

Some areas our province is experiencing snow showers it is 1C/33.8F, almost ski jacket weather.

Just for today: Off to the Rec Centre 45minute walk on track. 50minutes stretch and weights.

    Have a healthy day everyone.

    Good morning, ladies.

Thanks Jonni. We are organic farmers northeast of Edmonton. Starting to slow down now with our farming activities and will probably be putting our land back into hay within the next few years. Primarily grow wheat.

Finally saw a couple of hummingbirds yesterday. My feeder has been up for a couple of weeks and nice to see them return. Started walking outside as a form of exercise awhile back and finding that making it simply a part of my daily routine has been helpful. I'm up to 40 minutes per day and think I will stick with that.

    Enjoy the day.

Good morning from South West Missouri
Went to the doctor with my knee and it's arthritis. He gave me an injection. The injection sight is very sore but the swelling has gone down.
My sis is planning her wellness journey and is writing things down. I need to do the same thing.
    Thanks you for those farming.

I enjoyed reading all your comments. Had no idea how far north most of you are. I'm sure that makes it difficult to be active in the winter. I lived in Iowa for a year and couldn't bear the cold or being "shut in" during winter. Gave up a good job and got myself back home to Florida as fast as I could.

@Joy1580vb ... Your poor little rescue dog! I hope those sweaters get there real soon... and thank you for the compliment on my plumerias. They're just coming into their season now with the hot weather and rain and will be a glorious sight! I line my front driveway with them.... Later on I'll post a picture when they're in full bloom.

@jonni82014 ... Yes. Trying not to think what I'm doing is a diet... just a new way of eating that I will follow for the rest of my life. Enjoying my books.

I've become a night owl since retiring (I guess I'm rebelling against setting an alarm clock and getting up early like I did for 50 years) and discovered that I'm hungry at night. I've been trying to fight it but if that's when my body wants to eat, then that's when I will. Of course, I'll eat whole foods and have them prepared earlier.

Everyone is different. I can go all day without hunger, and I have more energy to do my projects. I don't want/need to stop to eat. It takes time, gets me out of the mood to work, and I'm not hungry anyway so why eat then? Just because others do? They probably go to bed at 10, but not me.... I might fall asleep at 4 or 5 in the morning. I need to listen to my body and follow what it wants. No more fighting night-time hunger even though people say you shouldn't eat at night. I need to do what works for me. What are your thoughts?

Totally agree with doing what is right for you regarding eating. For myself, I need to eat breakfast, lunch and supper at what are for me normal times.....7:00 am breakfast, 12:00 noon for lunch, supper is at 5:30/6:00 pm. This is a routine that worked for me throughout the years no matter what stage I was at (working/married/raising a family/retiring from work, etc.). I am definitely not a night owl and tend to go to bed right after watching the evening news at 10:00 pm.

Everyone is different and what works for some, doesn't work for others.

    Hi Ladies,
Well, I’m feeling more positive about my health and weight loss this week. I’m losing again, I’m sure because I’m logging my food, and I’ve had a couple of great swims recently. Saw a physiotherapist who’s wonderful. She told me to swim if I want to, even with the tore shoulder. I do want to, and I did. Loved it!
@BarbMessimer I totally get your desire to eat late at night. I too became a night owl after retiring. I don’t think it matters at all when you eat f you’re counting calories. The problem for me is I was mostly overeating at night. This was happening a lot before I decided to lose weight about a year ago.
Mind you, a few days ago, I got up out of bed, was really hungry, had cheese and crackers and a piece of my homemade New York style cheesecake, and maintained my weight the next morning, no loss, but no gain. When I log everything, it doesn’t matter what time I eat it. I’m trying not to eat really late as I noticed I don’t feel as good the next day.

    Good morning, ladies.

Melwillbehealthy well done on swimming. I don't have access to a pool close by as I live in a rural area. Nearest facility would be about an hour drive away. Wish we had one closer. Trying to get in better shape for an upcoming trip to Newfoundland which includes a 45 minute walk in order to take a boat ride in one of the areas we are visiting. It's an escorted bus tour that encircles Newfoundland and part of Labrador. There are two areas of Canada that I haven't seen yet....Newfoundland and Quebec. Hoping to do Quebec next year. I don't think I will have any problem with the walk as I'm finding my daily walk easy to do.

Still cool and a bit rainy here so no gardening for me until later in the week. Need to buy my tomato plants but will wait until the end of the month. I only buy 6 plants and like the Beefsteak variety along with a couple of Roma ones. I make sauce out of them and freeze it in two cup bags to enjoy throughout the year.

    Enjoy the day.

@Joy1580vb Your trip sounds fantastic. So much to discover. Cool and rainy here as well. Much needed rain to tamp down the wildfires and feed moisture to the drought areas.

We live in the west part (prairie) of Canada. We tend to take occasional quick trips to Banff and Jasper, our back yard. Vancouver as well.
We have met so many islanders (Newfoundland Nova Scotia PEI + New Brunswick) living in our area as they re-locate to either settle here permanently or temporarily find work. We hear and see so many reasons as to "why" we should visit. The visit is on our bucket list. We have visited family in Quebec; again a lot to discover.

This year we are not planting any vegetables or bedding flowers as we will be away. I thank the perennials that show up every year. :D

@Melwillbehealthy reads like you are on the right track getting in exercise movement even though you are injured.

We rarely have concerns regarding late night snacking as our media (TV etc) is downstairs away from the kitchen. We nor our company do not eat any foods in the living room upstairs or the media room downstairs. Myself nor my DH were not allow to eat in those areas in our childhood; so the tradition carries on. Since Mar/22 I have had 9 incidences of Late Night Snacking. During those incidents; I had to fuel my body as I would have had a very late lunch and missed supper. I joined the forum No Late Night Snacking on MFP in 2022. Keeps me accountable. No late night snacking after 6:00pm
Yes, overeating or wrong choices are my downfall. Love chocolate. :#

Just for today: Off to the Rec. Centre 45minute walk 50minutes stretch and weights.

Have a healthy day everyone. B)

Good morning, ladies. Another cool day here so not planning much for outdoor activities other than my daily walk.

jonni82014 I'm looking forward to my trip. If I recall correctly, you are off to Europe in the summer. I have taken a few trips throughout Europe and have enjoyed all of them. Are you travelling independently or taking a group tour? So much history so see and I'm sure you will enjoy.

@Joy1580vb I absolutely love Newfoundland and Labrador! Make sure to see Lance Au Meadows, in the north before you cross over the water into Labrador. There’s a Viking archaeological site there. Of course, you’ll see moose, the largest population in the world I believe. There are very few hotels. In fact, I don’t remember any once you’re out of St. John’s, just B and B’s. of course the best thing are the warm and friendly Newfies.
My daughter spent last summer on Fogo Island and loved it. I think it’s only accessible by plane though. A bit isolated.
We’re heading in the other direction this summer, over to Alaska. I’ve never been before and am very excited.

Melwillbehealthy I checked the itinerary and Lance Au Meadows is on it. I'm excited! Doing a full circle of Newfoundland including one overnight in Labrador. This is an escorted bus tour but a small group tour with only 24 on it so should be good. I travel solo and like the escorted tours as I find it a good way to meet other like minded people while enjoying sightseeing. I have done two trips to Alaska. One was a cruise with my son and the other a land tour with my husband. Lots to see and I'm sure you will enjoy.

Exciting summer ahead for all of us. DH and I booked a travel agent to help plan our trip to Europe.
I am interested in traveling to the East coast of Canada. Bus tours sound like fun. I am the sole driver so I do not get to see all the sights that I would like.
Alaska is on our bucket list as well.

On another note I read a very interesting article on MFP that I am going to investigate further. I discovered quite some time ago that I have a few tell tale symptoms that my gut health needs attention.
More fermented foods and less dairy. Wondering if I am actually lactose intolerant or if my gut microbiome is not balanced. That's where a naturopath might come in handy.

MFP : The Potential Link Between Your Gut Microbiome and Weight Loss. MFP offers a nutrition plan to follow for 7 days.

Just for today: Dreary day kind of raining off and on so its a perfect day to wash and scrub my kitchen travertine floor. That's a workout and a half. :D
Made a pot of beef stew.

Have a healthy day everyone. B)

My weight is dropping now that I've started listening to my body and eating later. I guess it's syncing with my circadian rhyhm. As we've commented, we're all different and this is working for me. I just logged in another half-pound loss.

BarbMessimer...So good that you found a way of eating that works well for you.

Still chilly here with the odd shower. Hoping to be able to get my garden planted later this week as the forecast is for a warming trend. Going to pick up my tomato plants tomorrow and will just keep them up by the house for the next few days (bringing them in at night). Hubby finished seeding the field of wheat so the much needed showers will help with germination. Date has been set for our organic inspection and inspector is coming the day before I leave for vacation so will be nice to have that completed before I go. Inspection always goes smoothly as my records are accurate and up to date but I always get a bit nervous.

    Enjoy the day.

@Joy1580vb ... I'm sure your inspection will go well. You sound very detail oriented. It's good for your health that you have outside work... I do too with my plumerias. I'd probably just stay inside the air conditioning and watch TV if I didn't need to tend to my little trees.

Weight down again today since adopting my new plan.

    TODAY'S THOUGHTS 05/22/24

I've been practicing "Intuitive Eating" (Been reading books.) It's helping me get in touch with my body and the signals it gives for when and what to eat. My pattern of eating might not be right for others as I eat later in the day, but it's working for me. I'm hopeful now that I can lose the 100 pounds that's been my goal for the past 3 years. I'm down to -52.

I find it's hard to stay on track when others around me are eating whatever they want... but I look at this way, "I have a metabolic problem. I can't eat like other people. I have to be in control or else I'll be back to morbid obesity. I want to live as long as possible and feel relatively good at the same time. This is something I must do... It's not a diet but a forever eating plan."

I used to be very severe with myself. I cut out all starchy carbs, breads, etc. but now I'm allowing myself one "cheat" per day. It could be a piece of fruit, a potato, a slice of bread, a scoop of ice cream, a bagel, etc. but just ONE A DAY. (Still no fried foods. That's a big NO-NO.) This is keeping me from binging and going off the deep end like I did at the end of last year.

I hope everyone is doing well. This is a beautiful time of the year. A time for new beginnings and a good time to re-commit to our health and weight loss goals. Best wishes to everyone!

@BarbMessimer I’m with you. I’m in a similar situation. I have 100 + lbs. to lose and have lost around 52 in the last year. Yesterday was a tough one for me. Sometimes I can’t seem to eat the correct amounts so I don’t end up starving or craving something at night. Last night I gave in. The good news is I’ve changed. I didn’t give up this morning. I didn’t weigh myself either (depressing), instead I went for an early morning swim. I’ll continue to do my best throughout today.
Maybe I’ll weigh in tomorrow and see the damage. Kicking myself as I’m diabetic and ate 3 of hubby’s sugary coated donuts, even though I’m very consciously trying to lower my A1C🫤.

@Melwillbehealthy ... Yes, you and I are in a similar situation. So glad you chimed in. I suppose people must be reading the posts but just not commenting, and I hope that changes. I understand MFP is getting rid of the newsfeed but keeping the community topics, so this might be the only way we can receive support.

It took me 2 years to lose 68 pounds and then last year I gained 28 back over a course of 5 months. My appetite was out of control (surely due to an imbalance in hunger hormones), and I let myself indulge in any and everything I had deprived myself of over 2 years. I even went on a cruise, had lots of cocktails and ate morning, noon and night!

As far as your ONE day, we all have days like that. It happens. So, like I tell myself, "Just get over it and move on." Don't dwell on your mistake. Understand that you're human and eating like you did is the way most people eat every day, and you didn't undo all that you've accomplished over the past year in one single day, and I agree with you about weighing. Don't weigh for a few days. It's too depressing as you know the carbs will cause fluid retention and the number on the scale won't be accurate.

Gald you're back on your plan. It's a long journey and we might have a slip-up or two along the way, but we will make it to the finish line!

Hi my 70ish friends. I wanted to let you know that I've been doing real well on my new "method" of eating (Intuitive Eating). I can't believe how easy it is for me to go 20 hours (or more) without food during the day and then eating within a 4-hour time frame later.

No change in my diet. I'm still sticking with my usual whole, healthy foods and allowing one (and only one) starch or sweet @ day. Now I don’t feel deprived and not as likely to go on a binge.

This new plan is more doable for me, and I’m hopeful now that I can get down to where I want to be… 47 more pounds and counting!

    Good afternoon ladies.

Hope everyone is doing well on your weight loss journey. Went out this morning and picked up my six beefsteak tomato plants. Just got smallish plants as I have found they do best for me when transplanted out into my garden. Just going to keep them up by the house for now though as we are still getting cool weather. Wanted to get a few roma tomato plants as well but the greenhouse I went to were all sold out. Did get my potato seeds too. Will try to get my roma's later next week. Had a bit of hail along with 1/2 inch of rain yesterday afternoon. For a so called drought year, we have certainly had a fair amount of rainfall. Hubby is glad he has his seeding done as the fields are getting too wet.

As for weighing, I weigh myself every morning but I record only the lowest weight. Find that helps keep me on track.

    Enjoy your day.

    Good morning, ladies.

BarbMessimer....thanks for keeping this thread going. Hopefully other posters will come back. Enjoy reading what is happening in your part of the world.

Got down to minus 2C last night so still too cool for my tomato plants. Putting them outside on the front steps today along with a larger strawberry plant I picked up yesterday. Will be transplanting the strawberry into a large planter up by the house so we can enjoy fresh strawberries during the summer.

Was up a bit this morning when I weighed. Had lunch out yesterday so I'm sure it is a result of salt. Should be back down tomorrow. I'm struggling to get off about 30 pounds. Getting more active outside which I'm sure will help.

Hubby will be getting my lawn tractor ready this morning and my plan is to cut the grass this afternoon. Have a big yard by the house....it's probably about about 2 acres and includes trees, shrubs along with apple, pear and plum trees to cut around. The fruit trees are full of blossoms this year and look beautiful.

    Enjoy the day.

    Good morning
Our Internet was down for two days. There was a garage fire down the block, it was so fierce that it melted the communication box on the electrical cables.
We still had our cell phones. Phone calls only, iMessages received but could not deliver iMessages to others.
We were reminded of the different life/world without Internet. No computers, no TV (we have Apple) and to top it off the Western Finals (hockey) are being played. So we reverted to crowding around the radio to listen to the games and news. Thanks to our old fashion alarm clock radio :D We also had a break from our foreign language studies.
DH and I read a full pocketbook. Cleaned out our closets, to declutter and find some gently used clothing items for Goodwill.

I did go to the Seniors Centre and Rec. Centre for two workouts.
Today expecting professional window washers this morning. We usually wash windows 2XYr
We had our house painted last year. The painter sprayed the house with a "wash" that left a residue on the windows. Difficult to clean. DH had a knee replacement, a lot of dust due to LRT (Light Rail Transit)+City Construction and Street Cleanings. We decided that Just for this year, after the dust settles we will have the professionals do the job. Inside and out.

@BarbMessimer You are a star! Can you please post the title of your IE book so I can research.

We are all unique. One type of a "diet" does not fit all persons needs. We have to find what works for us.
I have a metabolic disorder as well, so I was told by my BHRT (Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy ) Therapist.

Picking up a library book today. Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Emotional Eating. I might find what's eating me instead of what I am eating :D

    Thanks for reading
Have a healthy day everyone B)

jonni82014 Enjoyed reading your post. Scary about the fire. Hopefully it was just contained in the garage and didn't spread. Two days without internet is a long time for sure. We have power outages during the winter quite often but the longest without power has been just about one full day. We have a wood burning stove in the livingroom as a backup for heat.

Been watching the Oilers in the finals and they are doing so well....was a nail biter last night but they pulled it off!

@jonni82014 ... DIET SURVIVOR'S HANDBOOK by Judith Matz and Ellen Frankel and INTUITIVE EATING by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch.

I've thrown out almost all of the programming from society about eating, i.e. Don't skip breakfast. It's the most important meal of the day... Don't eat before bedtime... Don't let yourself get hungry... Eat frequent small meals throughout the day, etc. I now "go with the flow" and follow what my body dictates. It's not hungry during the day so I prepare my food then but don't eat until the evening, about 4 hours before bedtime. I have a whole foods meal and a snack for later because I ALWAYS want something before I can go to sleep.

My weight is down again this morning so it's working for me.

    Good morning, ladies.

BarbMessimer....well done on your continued weight loss. So good that you have found something that works well for you.

Looks like it is going to be a nice sunny day today. Finally was able to get the grass cut in my yard yesterday and it looks good now. Will tackle the yard with all the grain bins, barn, etc later on. Next project is to get my garden in and hope to do that tomorrow. Off to another greenhouse this morning in search of my roma tomatoes and a cherry tomato. Will keep the cherry tomato in a large pot up by the house to enjoy throughout the summer.

    Enjoy the day.
