That must have been quite a surprise! Hope you can at least have fun with it!!4 -
I joined a monthly challenge last year and then completely failed..... here for 2nd try.
2023 was an epically bad running year for me. I came into it with a horrible upper respiratory infection that made running impossible and then I continued the downward spiral from there. I ran zero races and completed only 442 miles - the smallest amount of miles I've run since 2011.
2024 is my comeback year. I had a good January completing a daily mileage challenge and coming into February with good momentum. My February goal is to run a total of 85 miles.
2/3 - 3 miles
2/4 - 6 miles
2/6 - 2.55 miles
2/7 - 3.61 miles
2/8 ‐ 3.08 miles - another day of unavoidable random snacking topped off with a big vendor hosted dinner. Thankful I at least got to run a bit and explore the city even if it was rainy and cloudy the whole time. There will be 0 miles tomorrow since it is an early travel day (catching the train to the airport at 5 am) - but i will be very glad to get home and back to normal routine. 8 miles planned for Saturday.
____________
18.24 miles
66.76 miles to go

Feb total: 26.7 miles
YTD: 129.9/1200 miles
2/1: 4 miles
2/3: 10.2 miles
2/6: 9.5 miles
2/8: 3 miles
Recovery miles before work this morning. Despite my rest day yesterday my legs were still feeling a little tired today.
I had a tempo workout planned for tomorrow but I got called in to work. That means I wouldn't be able to do it until after work and then do a 12 mile long run the following morning. I can already tell that's probably not going to happen. I'll try to at least get out for a walk or a short run but I struggle with running after work, especially when I have to drive across the city.5 -
That's a lot of rain @shanaber . I'm glad you didn't get any major damage.
Welcome @Leigh_b . You did great in Jan. This is a wonderful group to be a part of. I would have a really hard time at a specialty food show - or any kind of food show. LOL Sounds like you have a great plan to deal with it.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . I've never been able to pace myself outside, but I am a relative novice runnier here. I like the treadmill for intervals, because it makes me go at the pace I set. I can't answer your question though.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA and @daria0919 .
@ContraryMaryMary I'll look you up on Strava. I'm Vicky R from TN, I think. Good luck Sunday. It's funny that you forgot that you had signed up for it, but glad you did since it sounds like you really want to run it again. Have fun and don't stress over pace, which I am sure you were going to do without me saying so.
I hope you feel better tomorrow @polskagirl01 .
I hope your surgery went well yesterday @chris_in_cal .
I liked and hugged as appropriate but didn't comment on everyone's post. You are all doing great and are inspirational.

I helped with health screenings at a local HS this morning, ran a couple of errands, and then mom and I drove over to see Gary's (cousin) gravesite and flowers. We didn't get a chance to go back yesterday after the burial. It was after 4 and I was tired when I got home, so did a mile on the driveway and then Tippy and I strolled into the neighbor's field. It's supposed to rain the rest of the week, so the field will be too wet and she loves walking back there.
Yesterday was a really long, tiring day. I did manage a mile on the treadmill after taking mom to get her stitches out and before the funeral. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. I won't go into a lot of details here, but the hardest part was seeing Gary in the coffin. I had been telling my mom that he looked like my dad from certain angles, but she never saw it. Yesterday, he could have been dad's twin. Everyone who came in said, wow, I thought that was your dad at first. It just made it harder on all of us.
We're doing okay and it's now time to make sure all of the post life stuff gets done correctly. Continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated.11 -
@quilteryoyo thank you for the warm welcome. Very glad to be here among "my people". There is a little crazy in runners that only other runners can understand. I am so very sorry for your loss...prayers for you and your family as you navigate through.6

I ran 6 miles this morning. It was another really good run. It was 53°F feels like 51°. It has been great running weather all week. There is rain in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, so I don't know if I will get a long run in this weekend or not. I am still planning to take tomorrow as a rest day though.

A very famous youtuber Casey Neistat has a really good running video he just put out. Worth :10 mins.

Morning everyone!
Got in 4.6M (at 09"32 pace).
@ContraryMaryMary good luck on your unplanned Half this weekend!
Happy Friday all.9 -
@ContraryMaryMary I love that you "accidentally" signed up for a half marathon, and I'm glad you realized it before the race! Enjoy!
Question for the group: When you can't run/cycle/swim/etc, have you found any low-exertion activities that allow you to get your brain into that "zone" where you can more easily process & work through things?4 -
@ContraryMaryMary Good luck in your unplanned half. That sounds like something I would do . I'm sure it will be fun, even if you aren't at 100% in terms of race readiness due to your illness.
@polskagirl01 The only thing I can think of is mediation or yoga or just walking and maybe cleaning or yard work (weather allowing)....
@tarun_yadavA Good job on your 40 day streak. What about doing a 2.0 version during Lent as well. I am sure you can do it!
I decided I need to make time for more strength training, so I only ran 4km this morning as a warm up and then did some exercises I thought would be most helpful for running. I might have time for a run outside this evening during my son's soccer practice if I can talk myself into it. I usually take the weekend off to do stuff with the kids, so it would be nice to get another run in.
So far far 69.8/200km for February.7 -

@polskagirl01 I don't have one 😳.
Runs are so integral to not just my fitness, but mental health too (declutter, random run thoughts, process to-do lists).

@Laurz9191 yeah... Ummm... No!

Thanks though... Can do the first 9 days of Lent!

Thanks you @Leigh_b .
Great running @kgirlhart . It's supposed to start raining here today.
@polskagirl01 I'm not sure this is what you are talking about, but I journal...everyday. It's what got me through when my husband was sick and then passed away. It's amazing what things came out of the end of the pen that I didn't realize were in my brain.
Great job with the strength training and use of your time @Laurz9191 . I'm sure the other soccer mom's will be jealous of your activity.

Global warming annoyance on a small scale: I used to get my tiny, yet hefty pollen allergy in March to April. I got it this week. No running as my head hurts too much. There goes my running goal for February.3

@quilteryoyo This has to be a tough time for you. My thoughts and prayers continue for you.
@Leigh_bThere is a little crazy in runners that only other runners can understand.
@chris_in_cal Great Casey Neistat video. I had never heard of him before. Thanks for posting that.
I ran at the lake this morning and it felt great to be there. It is unseasonably warm today and I hadn't been there in a long time.

Great Casey Neistat video. I had never heard of him before. Thanks for posting that.
I have a heavily bandaged 6cm stiched up incision on my shoulder from Wednesday's surgery. I am awaiting lab results, but I am confident it'll be fine. Apparently, as Casey showed in his youtube, humans have the capacity to be resilient creatures. Why not me.11 -
The run during soccer practice worked out more or less. The road to practice was closed due to flooding. My son and I didn’t think there could be “real” flooding because it hasn’t rained too much and tried to “run” to practice from a parking lot on the other cc side of the river. We ended up having the choice between swimming and going back and taking a big detour in the car. By the time we got to practice, we were very late, but I still had time for 10.3km .
The road to nowhere.
80.1/200km for February.
@quilteryoyo Thinking of you! 🫶

Oh no, that flooding looks bad. We've had so much rain here as well. I live up a hill, but the ground is very saturated. I was only out for a few minutes today. Afraid to step in the yard because it makes the mud worse.
