Kylia - so sorry you are sick. Hope that sore throat goes away fast. Missed you!

Vicki - your job is already so stressful. Is there someone else there who could cover those open spots?

Rita - super blood test results. Very well done on the GFR! Your physician sounds ideal - 30 minutes is just about right to cover everything including your DH. Great set-up.

Tracey - I'm sure you'll do fine on your presentation.

Barbara - When my docs started their Direct Care practice 10 years ago, (not any member of a coalition) they were tired of the 80% of time spent on paperwork for insurance too like Tracey's former doc, and their families were suffering as well as patient care. Because they no longer took insurance, they let go of nearly all their admin staff. Dr. Paul really stuck his neck out and I think things were tough initially because the main income was paying customers. Everyone is grateful it worked out well.

Lisa - I've heard of folks getting the "chemical stress test" - thanks for telling us how this works. If all goes as planned, do you think you'll be done with the medical stuff by the end of the year? I'm trying to remember your timeline if all goes well. Crossing fingers for ya.

Barbie- glad you and Jake have a good doctors, and hope the exercises help his back. We once had a Providence internist we really liked, he was from India, and just superb. Gave both DH and I as much time as we needed. We were heartbroken when he left to take a job "up north."

I just went out to the shop and got the mower started! It sputtered a couple times but on the third try it turned over. I drove it around in the driveway for a few minutes to get it warmed up. Last year I mowed here on March 5th.

Annie - I get it we went from 6 bookshelves to 1 when we moved here. It was so hard to decide.

Vicki - I understand how you are responsible for covering shifts, but your health is important too. Trust me, I’ve been in your shoes and if you were to walk in with a doctor’s note they would figure out a way to deal.
I hope you get some relief soon, on all fronts.

Rita - Great news at the doc. I’ll try again with the message. The messaging system on here is a pain it seems.
I got 100% on the research paper and presentation. Now for the quiz tomorrow and I might have another 100% session complete.

Barbara - “My DH who loves me, often cannot “hear” me but will hear a respected male say exactly the same words. . . “ Amen sister. Amen.

Lisa - it’s amazing where they stick ultrasound these days. I would want to be knocked out too.
All of the baking competitions I watch the judges call people out for not roasting some ingredients, nuts is one. On a side note, I don’t know why I enjoy those shows so much, I don’t bake. 😂 I might, but I don’t eat it and DH doesn’t need it.

Speaking of ultrasounds, I started following the Queensland Brain Research Centre a few years ago. (It was a suggested ad, I assume from when Machka’s husband was first injured which is when I joined you ladies.) anyway, last week they announced that preliminary trials in very few humans has shown that ultrasound has reversed some dementia. I’m following it closely, what a breakthrough that would be.

Pip - Can’t wait to see the new trailer. Is this Bette 3?

So I did a thing today.

It’s been bugging me for quite a while, but I had debating the decision and doing nothing. Finally took the plunge.

    This would b Bette 5.0

I don’t like when the pics don’t come up in the order that you clicked on them.

    Camping evolution:

    Started out in tent
Then in the little shed, we converted it into kinda like a tiny home, it was already on that lot that we bought.
Then it was the Minnie Winnie, our first true camper.
Then the airstream-I think that was the first time we named one, that was the original Bette
Then, the meerkat (has blue on the bottom half) that was Bette 2.0
Then a bigger one (one with stripes). Bette 3.0
Then the one we have now, this one is stroked by the place where we camp (too big for garage anyway) Bette 4.0
Then the one that we will be getting and that will be Bette 5.0

Tracey I love the wave in your hair! Wish mine would do that but mine is so straight and limp.
And great job on the presentation!

April thanks! Hope your heart issues get better. And Yay for smaller clothes!

Time to make dinner. It's crab cakes, very easy.

In fact, I'm making cowboy cookies this afternoon. I make a double batch and freeze them individually so Corey can pull them out and make them himself when he is in the mood for something. They're what Mama called "kitchen sink" cookies - as in everything but the kitchen sink goes in them. (Here's a link.)

One thing I do that really makes a huge difference is that, besides browning the butter, I also toast the pecans, toast the coconut and I toast the oats in the oven until just browned before I mix them into the cookie dough. Makes a crazy difference in how good these taste. I might even toast the flour this time, too. Every toasted item has simply improved the taste. I also add raisins and dried cranberries, and leave out the cinnamon. Oh, and I always leave myself enough time for all these things to cool down, as if you put all that warm stuff in the mix, it melts the chocolate chips, and while still tasty, is a little weird!

Anyway... I also told Corey I'd get dinner going, just spaghetti Bolognese tonight. It's a chilly, rainy afternoon here, and a comfort food dinner sounded good to both of us. I'll make a big batch and freeze most of it for another couple meals.

No more medical anything until Wednesday next week, back to the orthopod. I can use a break.

    Later, y'all,
    Love,
Lisa in damp and rainy Arkansas

I have never heard of toasting the oats or flour but I am sure it is great- need to try and remember the next time I make cookies

Rebecca--Great pictures. Sending lots of hugs.
Heather--Great news on getting the referral and going to get the xray this morning. I pray you get the answers you need.
Kylia--Pray you are getting some much needed rest and feeling better.
I am really having a bad week and can not seem to stay on track. The visit to the heart doctor has me worried. I guess I figured it would be like most the time and nothing to worry about. But now I know it has to be taken care of. I have noticed my breathing is labored and that is because of the fulid, but taking the meds and spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Also I had one of my girls call in this last week and got a doctors note so I have covered her days this week and last and now she can not work her weekend shifts and everyone has plans so that means I will have to work.11 days straight is to much when they are 10-12 hours days. Sorry I have not been more active here. Guess feeling sorry for myself and have to get a handle on it.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE where they are saying snow the next couple days. <3

What would happen if you announced to your boss that you were going to go to 4 days a week for health reasons?

Went to my PC yesterday to go over bloodwork, etc. She was very happy with the improvement of my numbers over the last 3 months. That was when I changed my diet from low carb, high protein and fat to the Kidney diet. My A1C went down from 5.7 to 5.6, my kidney numbers all improved. My GFR was 42 last time, up to 59. This company checks 2 different GFR’s the other I have went from 50 up to 72. Both put me out of CKD! My cholesterol stayed at 128. So she was very happy with that. I am going to a physician that allows 30 minute visits. My DH usually goes first and is done in about 10 minutes. I stay and ask her all the questions I’ve written down for her, including stuff about my DH. This works great for us and I’m glad I found this doc when we moved here. They do referrals as needed, but we are short on doctors here so takes up to 3 months to get appointment with a specialist. X-rays and lab work depend on where you get them. So once you get a specialist, take every appointment they give you and stay on their books! Otherwise, if something changes, takes FOEVER it seems to get an appointment.

I have to stop the squats for at least a week until my back stop hurting. This was one thing I discussed yesterday. I have a bad habit of going full speed ahead whenever doing something like that challenge. I end up hurting myself by going too fast. I am not going to stop the squats, but have to stop the structured plan I was doing and go slower.

Yes, high protein diets aren't good for the kidneys. I eat a lower protein diet that is based on a kidney diet.

Our doctor here is great. Both my husband and I go to her. I book back to back appointments and we both go in. Each appointment is 15 minutes so we are in for half an hour in total. If I know we'll need more time, I'll book double appointments ... up to an hour in total.

She is very much a "triage " doctor in the sense that she listens and the provides referrals to the appropriate tests and specialist. But at least stuff gets done.

And I have had to do my own research on the various specialists, labs, etc. to determine who works best for me. So when my doctor says that I should see a physiotherapist, I know where I would like to go.

Also, via the health care system here, we can request a Plan which gives us reduced cost visits to allied health care specialists.
