    What series was your introduction to anime?
    What are some of your favorite anime series?

    Mine:
    Introduction: Macross or Dragon Ball Z... but before all that, I watched Fist of the North Star

    Some of my favorite series:
    - Naruto
    - Bleach
    - Death Note
    - Code Geass
    - Claymore
    - Inuyasha
    - High School of the Dead (because I like zombie shows)

      I started with DBZ and Pokemanz.

      Some of my favorites are:

      Fullmetal Alchemist (and FMA Brotherhood)
      Natsume Yuujinchou
      Blue Exorcist (the manga)
      Fruits Basket (the manga)
      Naruto (not sure why)
      Ouran High School Host Club
      Monster

      So sure I'm forgetting many, so I'll edit if I remember.

      I can't believe I forgot about Full Metal Alchemist (and brotherhood). That's an amazing series.

      Started on Sailor Moon. I'm not watching any right now since the anime bubble burst, but some of my favorite anime are Magic Knight Rayearth, Azumanga Daioh, Cromartie High School, and the first half of Death Note.

      my first (although i'm not neary old enough to have seen it first run) was speed racer. My favorite is ElfenLied. Runners up are FMA Brotherhood, Bleach and InuYasha.

      Ok, so I've never "gotten" the appeal of anime. I'm not really a fan of cartoons in general, so maybe that's part of it. But this seems like a good place to ask- what is it about anime that you like so much? What appeals to you? What am I missing?

      The first half of Death Note, before that heart-wrenching event mid-series? Yes, I know what you mean. But I still continued watching *addicted*.

      At the suggestion of some of my classmates I started watching Attack on Titan recently.

      Some of my favs are Magic Knight Rayearth, Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, FLCL, Chobits, Elfen Lied, OhOh my gosh.. too many to name!!! That reminds me ... Oh My Goddess!!!

      I think the appeal is there's something for everyone. Like romances? Marmalade Boy is a good start. Action? Dragon Ball Z or Naruto are very popular in that genre. Psychological thrillers? Death Note and Monster. Swords and sorcery? Magic Knight Rayearth and Record of Lodoss War. Comedy? Azumanga Daioh is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

      The appeal is that the fact that it's animated allows for a lot of things that are difficult to do with live action shows, but they aren't relegated to children's shows or fart jokes for adults like most animation is here in America.

      Ghost in the Shell was my introduction to anime. Then, I came across Shakugan no Shana a couple of years ago in the process of Google-searching my daughter's name (Shana). And then, my kids got me hooked on Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist. They have tried me on other animes, but I can't say that I have liked any others as much as the previoulsy mentioned. Soul Eater has grown on me, but still not as crazy about it as the others.

      God bless Toonami's early days for introducing me to Sailor Moon. That's really where it all started.

      Then Dragon Ball Z. Inu Yasha, Tenchi, Gundam Wing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Blue Submarine #6, Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing, Azu Manga Daioh. I've seen a few I didn't care for (Full Metal Alchemist, most notably... sorry guys), and there's probably a few I'm neglecting to mention.

      Cowboy Bebop is probably my favorite. I say probably... but it's more like "obviously."

      my first serious anime was (and im sure i'll spell this wrong) Urotsukidoji: legend of the overfiend.

      i was in awe. the violence, the sex! using 2 VCRs i recorded the whole series for myself, and even made a box for it lol.

      i dont really watch anything now, but i'll never forget that damn overfiend....

      Hahahaha. I will never forget watching the first episode of Queen's Blade with my wife. I got this recommendation from a friend (who we both now consider to be a perverted, sick sick human being). Just wow.

      Ranma 1/2 was the first anime I "loved" and completed.. Now I've seen pretty much every popular series up until 6-12 months ago, haven't really watched anything since. ;[
