Are calories burnt walking accurate?

I put into the app that I did 130 mins of walking at a slow pace today and it’s calculated I’ve burnt nearly 500 calories. This seems very high. Is it accurate?

It would be impossible for anyone here to know.

You could be 150 pounds or 300 pounds, and walking at 2.5 mph or 4 mph.

If you entered it directly in MFP, there's one thing you should be aware of: it gives you gross calorie burn (including BMR) instead of net calories. The double counting of BMR does mean it will be an overestimation.
If you calculate your BMR, you can calculate the number yourself that you should subtract. For me it's 66 calories per hour.

Yes, this one! TO, set the calculator to net calories, not gross. I've been tracking calories and exercise for ages, and this is actually pretty spot on. I just wish they had more non-imperial options for speed.

Calorie burn numbers are inaccurate for a number of reasons, you’ll never know if what you log is remotely accurate. For a normal person at a normal weight and a normal intensity you can generally figure around 100 calories burned for every mile.
