Here we go again!

Hi ya’ll! I lose 5lbs and then lose interest- hence the merry go round. Yet today is the day I tell myself this is it! So Day One! Let’s do this!!!! I think we all have it in us, but temptation is always lurking and saying no has never been in my vocabulary when it comes to sweet snacks- I mean something sweet 3 or 4 X a day in bulk! So that’s what I’m planning for this ride around- No to sweets, no more sweet tea- Here in the south it’s soda pop and sweet tea- zi never drank pop but the sweet tea beconed me- so cutting that out! What are you doing to keep motivated?! ideas always welcome!

    I’m SO with you! I was doing fine till I got diagnosed with lipedema. The water retention will never go away. The only means is to have expensive liposuction. I adopted the “why should I keep dieting” attitude. I gained weight. Now I want to get going again to lose what I can to spite the lipedema. You’ve given me incentive to begin again.

    Hey there! I have been logging here for 5 weeks, but not before trying and failing several times before. Now it's for real. I am finally here for the long haul and I love reading about other people who are committed. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and am sick of injecting myself 4 times a day.....time to stop the madness.

    My Endocrinologist says "Everything in moderation" and that's my feeling. I eat almost everything, but in small amounts. But if you can't do that then it is better to just cut it all out. I drink a lot of tea but use Stevia....its a safe alternative to other sweeteners because it's not artificial.

    YES.....we WILL do this! I log my food and post on Motivation and Support every day. Keep on!

    IMO, the way to get off the weight management yo-yo merry-go-round is to lose the platitudes/shibboleths, and find personally-suitable improved eating and activity habits that are relatively easy, practical, and ideally enjoyable.

    For some of us, putting certain foods totally off limits is necessary for at least a while, because we can't manage to eat them in moderation. However, it isn't essential to put something off limits if it fits in our calories, while still allowing us to get overall reasonable nutrition.

    Making the process harder than essential makes goals harder to achieve. Finding new, improved permanent habits is a different mindset IME than "going on a weight loss diet". (FWIW, I'm in year 8 at a healthy weight, after a year of lose from class 1obese, and about 30 previous years of overweight/obesity.)

    To your specific question: I can't stay motivated for the whole rest of my life. I'm a hedonistic aging-hippie flake, pretty much: Motivation is not one of my gifts. However, for me weight management is a forever endeavor. That meant I needed new habits that kept me happy, and kept me at a healthy weight. So far, so good.

    Once at a healthy weight, there were so many benefits - some of which I'd never anticipated - that I definitely want to stay in a healthy range. Somehow, I think I've viscerally realized that if I give myself every current pleasurable indulgence, I'm dooming my future self to poorer health and less happiness. I need to value that future self.

    I swear by Topo Chico, plain and lime. I was able to quit soft drinks pretty easily after I switched.
    You should probably not keep any sweets in the house. Consider berries or fruit to give you some sweetness (and also fiber)
