Thank you for the birthday wishes! Had a quiet day since the siblings returned to their homes. I raked a bit in the yard, finished my cake and ice cream. Up 10 lbs from last week, missing my long runs, but rested well last night.
Back to portion control. Temperatures going down after tomorrow, really not a fan of cold weather.8 -
WOW! so much going on. Glad you had a great bday party @AlphaHowls and hope those toes unjam. That is awfully painful. 😖😥
@tarun_yadavA think of the long trip as "sightseeing" altho probably not the prettiest. And just WOW on all that food. I am feeling bloated just looking at the pictures.
@WarmJellyfish when it's cold here I use those handwarmer things on my runs. lightwicking gloves under waterproof mittens with the handwarmer stuck between or whereever I want it during the run. Winterwonderland I think I might run ONCE in it and then would give up. Sliding on ice is only a recipe for disaster for me. 😳
@quilteryoyo you really have upped your running this year. And I had the strugglebus myself yesterday but managed a 5K to be at 96.7 out of 100 goal. I think I demotivated myself by looking at how many miles per day I needed to run to match last year's #. 🙃🤷♀️😖
@daria0919 I meant to comment on your race. I have done that before with events. Mostly dressage tests on my horse. Glad you are checking in and hope you get some better news soon.
@martaindale the kid is DRIVING!!!!! And you are doing the teaching? hope that went well. Glad Garmin is happy with your workouts - that is the most important thing of course. LOL.
@Teresa502 I love that bright turkey trot Tshirt bling!!! Rain and drizzle sound nasty to me tho. Congrats on the race.
@Scott6255 hope you can find time to get out for a run today. My neighbor often cancels our tennis because of workers at his house also. But best to keep an eye on things.
I had to unfollow one of my friends on Strava because they signed up for a political support group and it kept showing up in all my feeds asking me to join. 🧐😏 I am already sick of politics and don't need it on my strava feed!
@kgirlhart looks like your recovery from the race is complete!
I can't believe Nov is almost gone. Work decided after a month and everyone being gone to EXTEND the requirement to get below 40 hrs of PTO until the end of Mar. It has been a month of hell trying to manage my employees and my own time off. With Dec almost here and pretty much everyone out for thanksgiving next week I guess they think everyone is going to change all their plans now to support our qtr end in Dec... 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 I really need a sarcasm icon.

@daria0919 I forgot you lived up that way too!SummerSkier wrote: »@martaindale the kid is DRIVING!!!!! And you are doing the teaching? hope that went well. Glad Garmin is happy with your workouts - that is the most important thing of course. LOL.
Driving lessons are going ok. They were ROUGH in the beginning but now I'm pretty comfortable with them most of the time. We still need some practice on parking and city driving before they are ready for the driving test but they are getting close to having a driver's license!
And, yes, having Garmin be happy with me is very important!
I'm glad to hear your work extended the requirement for using up your PTO. This sounds like a case of someone not doing the math. I've definitely run into that at my job as well. Seems pretty basic, but it's amazing how often the powers that be don't think the entire way through a process they're putting it into place.5 -
Oh. That would be so much fun @daria0919 . We're counting on you @martaindale.
@AlphaHowls A lot of that weight is probably water. I'm sure you didn't eat THAT many calories over. Besides, I don't think birthday cake calories count. I hope you can get back to running pain free soon.
Thanks @Teresa502 , but I'm not going to match last year's mileage numbers either. I'm not sure how I got so far behind, but I'd need a little over 260 more miles of running and walking (and other things) to match last years number per Run The Year. But, I am happy with where my running is right now - mileage and pace. Hahaha about the company now giving everyone until Mar to use their PTO. I agree a sarcasm emoji is needed! I also support not having to deal with politics on Strava. I'm surprised that is even a thing.
Today I did my normal mile walk on the treadmill after church and before lunch.

I ran 10 miles today. The temperature wasn't too bad. It was about 63°f at the start and about 70°at the end, but it was windy. 14-18 mph winds. The wind made it feel really tough and I felt pretty slow, but I guess it did keep it from being too hot. There were several dogs out today. None of them were problems, I just had to reroute a couple of times and holler at a couple of them and that always makes me nervous. I also saw about 6 turkey vultures. They are huge birds and extremely unattractive.
5 -
You did great @martaindale .
Nice run @kgirlhart . When the wind is blowing, it always feels like you have a head wind in both directions. Why is that? Anyway, you did great and I'm glad the dogs weren't an issue. And, you are right about the turkey vultures. I love the "kind" description of them.2 -
@SummerSkier thanks for the tips. I use the hand warmers when it's really cold, like 0F kind of cold. When I run on ice, I use cleats. Those have been lifesavers. Funny how I forget things when it's only 8 months since the last cold wet snap. lol
@AlphaHowls I find some of that sudden weight gain is water retention. Last week I spiked up 5 lbs, and this week I got it back down to where is was previously. Hormones I think.....
@martaindale I love recovery miles days. The older I get, the more I find I need those.
@kgirlhart would be super cool for me to see turkey vultures. All we have are coyotes, bears, especially the grizzlies.
I'm 152k of 200 for the month. I lost a couple of long days over weekends but it's a good accumulation so far.
Yesterday did a 9k for a sat/sun back to back runs. -15c/5F but at least the sun was out! So pretty. Had to posthole some snow drift banks but awesomely better than saturday's snowplowing. I think I'm getting the layering dialed in.
8 -
@AlphaHowls happy belated birthday, I love the nephew
@tarun_yadavA enjoy your travels
@WarmJellyfish running in all that snow is so pretty! I wouldn't have a clue how to do it though, it doesn't snow every year here in Wales and if it does, it usually melts quite fast
Goal : 80km for November
2/11 5.06 km in 35:36 min (pace 7:02/km) parkrun

17/11 6.01 km in 44:21 minutes (pace 7:23/km) easy run
Last week wasn't a good running week for me, I had a lot of extra kids things to be at and the weather wasn't great. I did manage a few walks at the ice rink while my daughter was training but that's about it. This week is a new week so I went out and followed coach Greg's plan
19/11 3.3 km ice rink walk
21/11 5.1 km ice rink walk
24/11 7.4 km ice rink walk (the weather really wasn't great for an outdoor run or walk with storm Bert so I was glad for an indoor walking option on Sunday morning)
25/11 7.68 km in 56 minutes: slightly rainy tempo run from my Garmin training plan
48.34 km done, 31.66 km to go6 -
Nice run @WarmJellyfish . Beautiful, but oh so cold. Explain "Had to posthole some snow drift banks." please.
Nice running @Emilienewme . Sometimes life does get in the way. When that happens, we do our best and move on. Sounds like you are doing just that.3 -

I meant to do at least 3 miles on the treadmill this morning before heading out to shop and take mom to an appointment. But, as I was getting ready to start my run, the power went out. Fortunately, it only stayed off for about 30 min, but that put me 30 min behind, so I had to settle for 2 miles total. The run was a run/walk of 4.5/4.0 to keep my HR under 130 bpm. Avg pace was 13:45 min/mile. Avg HR was 116 with a max of 133 bpm.

I woke up a little earlier today so I could have a small cup of coffee before my run. It made a big difference vs rolling out of bed and running totally fasted. It was worth the earlier morning and I'll do it again.6 -
@quilteryoyo postholing happens when you walk in very deep fresh snow and your footprints leaves holes like a a hole for a fence post. Usually shin or deeper tracks. It's a bug bear to walk in, as you have to lift your legs vey high to walk. Imagine sinking into your upper shins and lifting that leg for the next step for 50 yards.4

I managed to get 4 miles done this morning before the cold front hit. It was 57° at the start and 54° at the end. It wasn't quite as windy as yesterday, but it was a cold wind and it was definitely getting cooler and more windy as I ran. It's supposed to be 36° in the morning. I have to admit I am dreading it a little bit. I really hate the cold.
5 -
It's 34°F out there this morning. Luckily there is no wind. I know it's not really that cold, but it is pretty cold to me. I really like to just throw on shorts and a tank top and not have to worry about what to wear.6
-
@martaindale I feel like I HAVE to have a cup of coffee before I can get going too. Great run.
Thanks for explaining @WarmJellyfish . That would be enough of a workout for me without running.
Nice running @kgirlhart ...and already past your monthly goal! I'm with you about the cold. The weather people are predicting lower teens here for lows this weekend and I don't even want to think about it.
6 -
Brrr - it is cold this morning. But not freezing and the wind is settles from last night so I might try for a run. Just waiting for the sun to come up.
Yesterday I got a 7 miler in even tho I was supposed to play tennis. I had a feeling my neighbor might cancel again so I just did my workouts as if I was not going to play hard. He actually called me 5 minutes before our court time to tell me he had gone to Houston to visit his daughter. I had already figured he wasn't going to play anyway and went on a nice walk in the north wind. LOL. My run was good and it's nice being off work this week altho I have tried to keep up a little with work email "at a distance"
I also require a good hour before I run in the morning with about 1/2 a mug of coffee and internet time. I discovered the joy of this when I used to run on Sunday's with a group of ladies from work around White Rock lake in Dallas. Since I had to drive there I started drinking some coffee first and it just felt to nice. Plus it moves things thru your system (hahahah) before you run.
I never heard that type of deep snow walking referred to as post holing before but it makes sense. I remember in our horror of Feb 2021 that we had sandwich snow. A solid layer of ice, then about 8 inches of show and then another inch of ice on top of that. Walking on that was impossible. And driving was way too dangerous. I used my snow ski poles to break thru the ice outside my driveway to get into my truck to charge up my electronics after the first 12 hrs without power.
My purple clematis is blooming again so I chose that for the ticker. I have met my Nov mileage but since I am off work will continue on. Getting quite a few chores done in the house as long as I can make myself start moving!

Morning everyone.
Left NJ yesterday. Got back-to-back 5.6M runs in at my cousin's in Florham Park. Staying in NYC now. Wanted to go Central Park - but it's miserable weather here. I don't fancy wet shoes (only bought running shoes and evening smart shoes), and the 10 year old is having none of it.
Clears up in the afternoon - next time, I guess. In the meanwhile... Just a pure eatathon here.

Speed interval workout this morning. The weather was perfect! Low 40's without wind. Perfect!
This was 7 x 1 minute repeats. Garmin gave me a completion score of 31% but when I reviewed the run, I actually did 4 of the 7 intervals too fast. That makes me feel better than getting a low score because I was too slow. 1 minute goes by so quickly that it's hard to gauge your pace in real time.3 -

@martaindale and @SummerSkier I also drink coffee before a run. I add sugar and half and half so it is 70 calories. It gives me just enough energy for the run without being too heavy on my stomach. Plus, I prefer to be awake when I run.
I finally got out this morning. It was 34°F when I got up and by the time I headed out it had dropped to 33°F. I ran 6.5 miles and when I got home it was 32°F. But it was a pretty good run. It was not windy and that helped a lot. I was dressed well, but not over dressed. I would have preferred if it was warmer though. I like to run in shorts and a tank top. I don't think I could deal with "post holing" snow like @WarmJellyfish.
I hit my monthly goal of 100 miles yesterday, but I was looking at the goals I set in January and I remembered that I has set a goal of at least 125 per month so I am going to change my goal to 125. I had set it a little lower because of the half this month. My other goals were run a half marathon distance 4 times which I did. Complete at least 2305 miles for Run the Year (this includes all miles). I am at 2118.5 so this should be doable. And run 1660 miles. I am currently at 1573.94, so also doable.

Hi everyone! I finally was able to run again today without my calf causing me to immediately stop!!! I ran a little over an hour on the treadmill for a total of 9km.
I am so happy that it is not hurting! After my run I went on a walk into the City Center in Bratislava and got dinner at the Christmas market and my calf still feels fine. It was hurting me both while walking and running. When we were in Vienna on Sunday it still hurt quite a bit, but these last two days I have just been sitting around, which I guess is what I needed. Yippee!
I have been eating a lot here too. Man, the food is good. I still think @tarun_yadavA wins with his American food spreads, but it’s definitely a bit more than what I would normally have .Slovak cola- not my thing but worth a try- lots of spice and maybe even some nutmeg .
Slovak potato mac and cheese with fried bacon on top - way better than any American version I’ve had
115.2/200km for November + 6x cross training workout days8 -
@AlphaHowls Happy Birthday!!! I wish you a wonderful year and good health, especially for your toes!!1
-
Guh been a rough few days.
Had to drive to a town 4hrs away, then do student testing, then drive home. Stayed overnight but am exhausted. Also working 3pm - 11pm this week and am going to another city on Thursday foe ANOTHER student test.
So running mojonis lacking today. I went out but struggled. It's OK, roll on next week haha9 -
@AlphaHowls happy birthday for a few days ago! Mine is tomorrow. Yay4
-
Happy Birthday @Avidkeo!
@Laurz9191 I'm glad the calf is behaving and you are able to run.
All this food talk is making me hungry. I'm definitely looking forward to pie in a couple of days. Plus my mom's sweet potatoes.4 -
Great running @SummerSkier . I'm sorry that your neighbor is an unreliable tennis partner, but sounds like since you have found that out you are just "going with it" and aren't mad when he cancels, but pleasantly surprised when he follows through. I remember when you had the sandwich snow. Love the clematis and glad you are being productive while you are off work.
@tarun_yadavA So sorry you didn't get your run in Central Park, but I don't blame you. Enjoy that eatathon.
Sounds like a great run @martaindale .
Very impressed with your running/moving totals @kgirlhart .
@laurz9191 I'm so happy to hear that your calf isn't hurting. That's great news. Great running and the food looks delicious!
@Avidkeo Happy Birthday. You did great to get out and do what you could.3 -
@martaindale coffee in the morning no matter if running or not is a must and non-negotiable!!
@Laurz9191 yay for running without calf pain!
@tarun_yadavA enjoy NYC. I have never been, and not really sad about it 😉
Got in a nice 10K after work today.

I went to the gym this morning and did a bench press workout. I maxed out at 55 pounds x 5 reps. I'm glad running doesn't involve the arms (much) because they were definitely fatigued when I was done.
After I got home, I did a drill workout on the driveway. My plan has me doing taper this week because I had to chose a race when I signed up and I chose one on Dec 5 - that I am actually NOT running. I just wanted the training to end close to my 10 mile race. So, I did the drill workout that I was supposed to do last week, but didn't.
I didn't really push the run so was happy with an average pace of 12:50 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 160 bpm. This run felt the best of any in a while.6 -
Morning all!
@WarmJellyfish - lol @ run so I can eat. Exactly!
Hilton Elliptical yesterday as weather was crappy... And seeing as I'm up early - today too, before a long drive to NC. Thanksgiving with my Asheville buddy - but not staying in Asheville. His house was fine; he was water and electric; but town is a mess. So spending Thursday with him and his family.
Then Friday driving to Durham area for "third times a charm" wedding! Wedding and Reception on Saturday. Fly back from Charlotte to London on Sunday. Land Monday.
Am conscious that I'm wasting running days here - given target. So will try and get at least two more runs in.
@quilteryoyo thank you!
@Laurz9191 love the pics! ☺️
Is the Slovak cola an independent thing, or owned by coca cola group - one of those 'G-local' things?
@Avidkeo Happy birthday!
@Scott6255 never been to NYC? London's better! 😂
Anyways... Yesterday's food pics - more eating our way through New York City ... Oh, and I found a Cheesecake Factory!!This viral pizza and sub place called Mama's Too in Greenwich village area
If anyone watches 'Only Murders In The Building' starring Steve Martin and Selena Gomez... This cookie place features heavily in Season3.
And finally - Cheesecake Factory! Parenting be like: "But Daaaadd, I don't like cinnamon...", "I want an Oreo one". Little *kitten* had like one bite of the cheesecake, ate the cookie on top with the whipped cream - and said he was done. 🤯😡 So I ended up eating an Oreo one - and not my Cinnabon one! Grrrrr. (To be fair - it was ok!)8
