Type 2 Diabetes and weightloss

Is there anyone here with Type 2 Diabetes, managing this and also losing weight?
Recently diagnosed, I have lost 20 kg in 15 weeks (without exercise as I've also recently had a heart attack and had 2 stents implanted, also without the use of Ozempic or similar).
I noticed quite quickly that there weren't many recipes or cookbooks available, and to find a recipe that was flavourful as well as having the right carbs, low fat and low sodium was near impossible! So, I set out to develop my own, and have!!
I'd be interested in hearing how you're going, if you're staying on track and how you're dealing with it all.

Not me, but my mother had a heart attack and when she was hospitalized in critical care her doctor told her she had developed Type II Diabetes.
She had a lot of weight to lose, and she was a smoker until that heart attack. She started going to the pool and doing pool aerobics and not only did she lose weight but she gained some friends. She got a little obsessive about fats in food (fair enough!) but she did lose the weight and kept it off for the rest of her life. I was really happy for her.1 -

I’m a new type 2 diabetic as well. I’m 66. It happened in 2021, a year before I retired.
I’m working in My Fitness Pal to try and maintain. A healthy blood sugar.1 -
This is the million dollar question: how to manage weight loss while having diabetes and NOT using weight loss drugs to do it. Those type 2s who take insulin, like me, would probably agree that insulin makes us fat. It is difficult to work around that. However, for me, low carb and very low sugar along with exercise(strength training and aerobic exercise) on a daily basis will help lose the weight. Plan what you are going to do and work your plan. Make it something you can sustain for the long haul.0

Hi, first of all congratulation. Losing 20 kg is huge!
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in September.
I hit the brakes hard. I am older and heavy. I am taking Prednisone, which can also cause diabetes, but to be honest, I ate way too many sweets. Candy, chocolate, and everything else -like a chipmunk. Too much white flour, too much bread. You don't get that big from nothing.
I started at 348 lbs and weighed 318 pounds today in the morning. I have lost 30 pounds in 75 days.
I am very strict. I didn't want to be put on Ozempic or anything like it. My blood pressure was way too high and my cholesterol was as well. I negotiated a three-month 'trying trial' for myself and left the doctor's office. I was in shock.
It was a healing shock, perhaps what I needed. I haven't eaten anything with added sugar ever since. I weigh and log everything. I am gluten-free and dairy-free (other health reasons) and very determined.
I had blood taken because I had an accident at home and my A1C has lowered down to the pre-diabetic range already, very close to being normal. It felt good!

For type 1 and in some advanced stages of type 2, food and exercise isn't enough and meds/insulin is essential and lifesaving - so anything that can be done to reverse or slow progress & complications is just worth that. I think we almost have to reach the decision that helping our body is more important than the extra eating of whatever we used to eat...0
