@xbowhunter a huge Congratulations! You and I have been on this thread together for a long time. You have done amazing and I hope you will sit with the feeling of zero drink days for over 3 months! Such a great accomplishment……please keep checking in here. This month is especially challenging for many of us and will be over in just 18 days!
@Womona I love your social life! Geeze, good luck with the printer/scanner. I hate troubleshooting those too, lol.
And, I think you are doing really great with balancing your decisions on wine and not overdoing. WTG!6 -
Happy Friday!
I was out running errands all day yesterday so love that it’s a rainy day here. I will stay in and catch up on what seems like a million little things and put the house back in order after a super busy week of appointments.
I am working up to 5 AF days this week. Almost there. Will keep you posted!
Let’s all have a very safe, and less alcohol weekend together!5 -
Quick share….I was reading some updates from another organization that helps individuals to stay focused on cutting back.
It proposed how cutting back can help with relationships, set good behavioral examples to our families even if unspoken, and help us find greater self worth. Amen to that!6 -
@Womona Thank you for the kind words about my boy, and I would've thrown that scanner outside
Enjoy your girl's day!
@Michieb125 5 AF days is amazing! Go you! I wholeheartedly agree with cutting back helping with relationships and self esteem. Very enlightening!
@xbowhunter Hang in there! You're in the homestretch of the holidays, and you're doing awesome! Like Surfergirl said, people like us don't know how to moderate. It sucks.
@tmbg1 Keep it up! You've got an impressive streak going!
I had 2 days of no drinking, followed by an overdrinking night at the casino last nightI almost told my SO to go without me, and I should have. We've agreed that our resolution next year is to lay off the casino and see how much money we can save, so that will be good for AF days as well.
AF = 6
A = 6

Today is 90 days AF for me.This was my original goal I set for myself, and I did it. lol
I'm actually afraid to drink again because I know I can't moderate. I wish I could but deep down inside I know it would be a terrible idea for to drink again.
So, I will just take it one day at a time and once the holidays are over it will be easier to abstain!
cheers!
WOW - very impressive streak - also good self-awareness to know that moderating is a challenge for you6 -
AF - 9

Husband came in yesterday and said, “I have good news and bad news.” The good news is that Special Olympics is paying for him and my son to travel to Myrtle Beach for a Leadership Conference, and he believes it’s because they are going to announce my son will be going to Nationals to compete. Very exciting! That’s what my son trains to do.
Bad news… it’s the same weekend as my birthday.
My 50th birthday is officially dead.7 -
Opened this tonight instead of the real thing. Now have 4 AF days for this week thanks to being willing to at least try it! Not bad, slightly sweeter than I’m accustomed to with a Chardonnay however, would recommend. Likened to a Sauvignon Blanc. Here’s a bonus: 80 calories for 8 ounces!6

@xbowhunter congratulations in 90 days! That is really impressive, and I’m so happy for you. I know you’ll keep the streak going because of your insight into how you just cannot moderate. You are very wise. That said, I wonder why it is that some people can moderate, and some cannot. Isn’t that weird? Seriously, has anyone ever studied
this? It’s quite a phenomenon!
@Michieb125 thank you for saying that. You’re so sweet. However…. You may want to retract your statement about how great I am at moderating! While yesterday at lunch, I had no desire to drink, at dinner I did ok. One Old Fashioned and two glasses of wine. Ok that to me is acceptable for a big steak dinner office party. Then someone ordered a round of espresso martinis after dinner. Oh geez. Of course I drank it. By the way, it was delicious. So that’s drink #4. Guess who slept terribly last night???? So…. Back at it today. Tonight is the night I crack open the Geisen NA wine to give that a try.
Oh, and the scanner conversation went well! Haha!4 -
SurferGirl1982 wrote: »This is a bit off topic, but, I've mentioned in some of my posts that I live in a somewhat rural area. I actually had to drive 60 miles each way to see my eye doctor recently. And, I have an appointment with a different doctor next month in the same area. I feel that is totally ridiculous.
So, I put in a search with Realtor.com for an area about 120 miles south of here. I've lived there before. I was actually a meter reader for the power company. So, I know the neighborhoods. And, there's more medical care, shopping and entertainment.
Has anyone else ever moved 100 miles or more away? I tend to get cold feet.
I moved from NJ (born and bred Jersey girl here, we don’t pump gas) to Bellingham Wa, where the first time I got gas I sat in my car for 5 minutes waiting for the attendant, only to remember that I now have to pump gas. Then we moved to PA just over the Jersey border. My husband almost took a job in Boise ID.
Here’s what I can tell you… it’s scary but to me also exciting. Social media and texting makes it sooooo much easier to to connect with your far away friends. Also, I will say that you need to actively join things and get involved with clubs, sports, etc. We joined a country club because we are golfers, also Rotary, also the gym and tennis drills where I’ve gotten to be friendly with the other ladies in the classes I take. We are active in our church. Bottom line, get involved with your new community and it will be a much better transition. Even if you’re in the shy side, join something that interests you.

How exciting for your son!!! Here’s hoping he goes to Nationals! Are you going with them? If not…. Perfect timing for your girls weekend away! Or plan your party for the following weekend. Be sure to let us know the actual date so we can celebrate you from afar!

17 AF days in a row- still no weightloss but I do think my belly looks like it's less puffy. Also my face looks better.5

That is so cool for your son and for you guys!! I like what Womona has to say about planning a girls' weekend and your birthday the following weekend. Make the best of it!5 -
Going AF strong over here.
@chicbuc your grandson can fly! Very talented indeed and what a joy it must be to watch him dance.
@tmbg1 and @xbowhunter YAY for both of you! YOU ARE ON A ROLL!! I find that while it gets so easy there are still random days when we have to jump unexpected hurdles. We can't let our guard down.
@NonnieDoiron about your 50th bday plans, can you celebrate both during the same time? Or celebrate just before?
@Michieb125, the faux prosecco I drink (Mionetto alcohol removed) sometimes shows it has 36 calories for 12 ounces. But it's hard to believe it is so low, maybe it's incorrect. Yours seems more realistic.4 -
@SurferGirl1982, yes I have moved before but that was when I was much younger and didn't own a house and was poor as hell, so the move was easy. Where I live now, it would be monumental to fix up the house to sell, sell it, find another, move, then spend way too many years fixing up that new place. And moving away from friends and family. Plus, I have about 10 different awesome medical specialists here that my husband and I go to that are just awesome and within 25 miles drive time. So yeah, tough to uproot.
Also, I try my best not to direct messages to any particular person. If you want me to, I can. I write for me and everyone who listens including those that never write on here.

QUICK CHECKIN as we are away from home and it is difficult to type on phone screen.
Huge success at my husbands fancy Christmas party last night. I ordered ginger ale in a stem less wine tumbler with 2 fresh mint leaves and a candied cranberry.
Talk about festive, all I said to the bartender was I am not having alcohol tonight. Can you make me a drink so no one judges me??
I later met a young woman there that was sipping out of a plastic glass, with a straw. She mentioned that everyone keeps asking her why she is not drinking. I went back up to that bartender and asked for another drink like he had made me but with sprite.
Took it to this girl I just met and said here now no one else will question your beverage choice. It is 99.9% first impression. Use this fancy glass technique next time you order and definitely do not put a straw in it.
70 days AF10 -
@SurferGirl1982 - it sounds like you could benefit by moving into an area where there are more resources and social support. I think it sounds like a plus! And the older we get, a good medical care team that is nearby makes sense to me. I’m sure you would meet new people and who knows what wonderful things you may find to do in place of you know what.
I try to think of a change like this in terms of what positives will come out of it by moving toward something better. Good luck!5 -
Eldest Daughter gifted me a l o n g poem she wrote many years ago. It detailed all the many many many places we had lived during her childhood. Sometimes the move was for a job, a husband, or sometimes keeping just ahead of abuse. I've gone from Maryland to deep into Virginia, up to the house next to the train station in Ellicott City, then to Miami, and back to Maryland, and finally ended up in Pittsburgh. One summer we moved 3 times...16 places in all. I might not be done, since ED & SIL want me to move to Louisiana or Maine with them. Depends on where they decide to retire. IDC, spent time in both places, but Little Deer Isle has my heart.
I've always been something of a loner so I don't look for clubs or social activities when I land someplace new....it's always the local library. Best choice when you have children. Now it would be important to have a good health care system & transportation.
Would be beneficial to me to move out of PA since all you need to do to get alcohol is go online & have it delivered to your door. Way too easy.7 -

70 days AF
Great idea- a visually appealing mocktail helps when it's a festive occasion!4 -
Amazing @MissMay 70 days AF!!! Keep it up! So happy for you!5

@MissMay - such incredible AF stats during the holiday season! You are an inspiration of what can be done.5

Can you believe we are half way through the month of December!?!
Challenged myself this past week by setting a drink target of 5 AF days / 2 A days and did it!
I liked everything about it…. more rest, more respect, more focus on what’s important to me. Not trying to take care of other people’s expectations! More on that later….
Have decided to create the same LA targets for this next week as well.
Somehow, I found it easier to make a schedule a week at a time, rather than looking at the whole month.7 -
@tmbg1 congratulations on your AF streak! I’m sure you will make your goal leading up to Christmas!
@forestdweller1 I L O V E D your recent share about moving, survival and resilience 💜. I have a high regard for all women who are able to improve upon the lives of their children and themselves. And I have to agree, reliable transportation and good health care are paramount to feeling secure as we all age.6 -
@chicbuc i don’t know much about dance, but your grandson definitely looks amazing 🔥🔥🔥in the pictures you shared!
To those who suggested doing a girl’s weekend and a party the weekend before or after, great in theory but a mess in practice. Of course, this whole birthday seems that way at this point. But, I’m considering it. I’ve talked to bestie, and we’ve talked about driving up to DC to visit a mutual friend. But, that’s too much time in a car right now for me and my old lady hip.🙄 I was thinking about a winery tour in Western NC (help with the tourism economy in that area), but bestie isn’t a wine drinker. So, the experience would be wasted on her.
I think it was @Womona who offered celebrating at Myrtle Beach with husband and son, but I absolutely will not go to Myrtle Beach. I’ll go to any other beach on the east coast. I detest Myrtle Beach. Plus, I don’t see the point in going to Myrtle Beach in the winter. I’ve already told the husband I won’t go, and he’s seemed to have accepted that.
I think the biggest thing is determining the budget for my birthday. Husband is worried about money, and a girls’ weekend may not be the best idea. My party was originally going to be me cooking, baking my own cake, and trying to invite enough people to play Bunco or something fun like that because it would be cheaper than renting a hall, paying for catering, and buying a cake I won’t like anyway. My husband is freaking out about money right now, and after the holidays is never a good time to spend a ton of money. So I honestly don’t know what I want to do.

OMG!!!! My husband can be the biggest do-do bird!! He thought my birthday weekend was the 18-19th. My birthday is on Monday, Jan 13th, I was planning my birthday for the weekend of the 11-12th. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Party is on, and hubby got a lesson in birthday weekends. And I apologized to him for being such a b@tch. And, I apologize to all of you for venting frustration here.
Now, to get him to open the wallet!😉8 -
19 AF days in a row- made it through another weekend 🙌 they are the hardest!8

3.5 months AF done and today is not just another day, it's the day to do something new, different, and better. Need to nix that and go out for a run to hit my re-start button. But I feel lazy and cold.
@tmbg1 I am rooting for you!!! You did hard things and are earning the easier days that lie ahead!
@MissMay congrats on hitting 70 days!

Hello my LA friends.
Had a real craft beer on Saturday after being AF for 90days.
I did this to see if I could moderate my consumption.
Well about 30min after the beer I felt a weird nausea and immediately regrated it.
I see this experiment as a positive because now I know, and it won't happen again.
So, Sunday I started over and am back to normal today.
If you are worried about missing out on something without alcohol, I can tell you are not missing out on anything. if you drink you are missing out on a lot more!
cheers!

@xbowhunter great experiment to solidify your choices for continuing NA!
I have a fairly low key week again which I am honestly relishing in 🙏🎁🎄. Only a luncheon (no A) tomorrow and will see my DS and DIL on Thursday for a little visit at their home (no A).
Drink targets are set up for the new week!5 -

I'm so happy for you! I'm a bit of an optimist and I thought everything would work out 😀 Not sure about opening the wallet part HaHa!
I’m glad you’re an optimist! I try to be but fall short too often.
The wallet is very hard to pry open! I asked him last night about a budget. He asked how much I needed. Lol… I’m an event planner for the military, I don’t create the budgets… I plan within them. He looked at me with a straight face and said, “$200?” 🤣 🤣🤣🤣 I told him that wouldn’t even cover the food! He cringed.
He openly admits he is no good at planning parties, and I told him that’s why I’m planning it. I just have to know my “real” budget, so I can plan accordingly. I’m going to give him some time to mull it over.

@chicbuc ~ Wow, what talent!! I love his dedication to get there! Love the pictures, they are awesome!
@globalhiker ~ congrats on your success and thanks for the kick in the butt... I need to adopt my work out mantra here as well....Just do it! I did talk to my husband this weekend as everytime I think I'm good, I've got this, he says... "what are we drinking".
@Michieb125 ~ I need to cut back on Christmas gifts and some birthday gifts too, now that I'm semi-retired and have less money. I've sent birthday gifts to my nieces and nephews since they were born. The oldest is now 25 the youngest is 16. When do you stop, or do you ever? I'm going to have to give NA wine another chance. I thought about doing a mix of 1/2 NA and 1/2 A and continue to decrease the A until it's 100% NA. That's how I learned to drink coffee without sweetener
@xbowhunter ~ congrats on your progress and learning from your data pointGood luck!
@surfergirl1982 ~ I have moved over 19 times in my life and I'm not military. My furthest was from IL to CA and then back again. There's a tie for the shortest: My most recent move to downsize was less than a mile away and when I was going through a divorce I moved less than a mile away.
@nonnieDoiron ~ Well crap. that is some GOOD news but.... I feel 50th birthday celebration should be celebrated whether it's on the exact date or not. Please go celebrate YOU!! And Congrats to your son, that is really awesome!! Well nevermind...looks like you're celebrating in style!!
@tmbg1 ~ 19 days - that's fabulous!!! Keep it going
@Missmay ~ that was very cool what you did for that young lady!!Now she's set for life
