How do you find a meal’s recipe to see if it’s the same meal you’re having?

I’ve been looking up meals that are already saved in the database, and many times multiple results come up with different calorie counts. How do I know how that food item was prepared so I can know which one matches mine?

You can't find that out.
People usually save meals and recipes into the database so they can easily use them again or so other people in their house can easily add them to their own FOOD diary, but there's no way to find out what's in them.

You’d need to weigh your own ingredients as you make the meal and log your own food,
Otherwise it’s all just a stab in the dark! No way to tell how any of the hundreds of people have made their ‘chicken pie’ for example.0 -
What they said.
Also, figuring out how to use the MFP Recipe and Meal features in ways that work for you is a good way to get accurate results more efficiently. (Yes, there is a learning curve. It's worth it.)
If you're not doing it already, a food scale is also not merely more accurate, but also quicker and easier than volume measures (cups/spoons sort of things), once you know the tricks and tips. If you need to learn the tips/tricks, posts back here, and I'll give more details.
Best wishes!0
