Please remember to take a rest & recovery day every now and then (once a week works well for me). I didn't know about rest days when I first started exercising, and the exhaustion/injuries that ensued set me back a lot. Now I know that I need to regularly give my body time to adjust to (and heal from) the increased stresses of exercising.3 -
Hello I'm Darlene, retired, 64-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty). I started my journey in January 2023, and over the last two year have lost almost 90 pounds. I got to my goal weight in the last quarter of 2024, and now tackling the maintenance phase. There aren't too many maintenance threads on MFP, so hope you don't mind I hop on this thread for this part of my journey. I have been a member of a daily accountability group that really helped me, but would love to transition into a weekly one. I'm working on a buffer to make it so I never hit overweight again, but will be happy just to stay in the ideal BMI range the rest of my life. I'll weigh in on Wednesday, we'll see how that goes!

Last Day of the Month - Reflection Day!
February 2025 Reflection
It was a pretty good month for me, I stayed under my goal weight the entire month and ended down a little over a half pound in January. I’m happy where I am and still calling being in the ideal BMI range my goal weight, but I have a mini goal to get to 137 pounds. In the end, I would love to reach 135 someday. Then a five-pound buffer would always keep me in the ideal weight range. The closest I got this month was 137.6 but then crept back up to where I am today - 138.6.
I am a numbers and spreadsheet geek – this month I was under my calorie goal for the month 2,126 calories. When you divide that by the 3,500 calories in a pound you get .6 pounds – just what I lost! It doesn’t work each day but when you look at it a month at a time, it’s amazing how it works for me.
On the Fitness front:- I decided on FitXR as my Virtual Reality subscription. My favorite is the Combat routines – but like the HIIT workouts as well. Not impressed with the Zumba classes (could be that I am just uncoordinated). They have a daily challenge that I have been following. I have been having a lot of fun with it. Just missed one day in February.
- I finished the Sorcerer’s stone Conqueror challenge, now making my way through the Chamber of Secrets.
- I continue to ride my recumbent bike as a warm-up before strength training, so ride 3 miles – three time a week.
- I started adding a circuit of strength training before my nightly treadmill walk – just 10 reps of each of the stations on our weight machine (that used to just collect dust). Takes just 3 ½ minute and is good for me.
- I am still working my way through the interval training program from the Improved Health channel. I just started week nine (the first week of series three). As I mentioned last month, I use the elliptical for my "fast as you can” section of the training. It is a lot of fun.
- I am just shy of the 500-mile marker on my quest to reach 2,025 miles (in all steps) in 2025. My tracker says “Wow! I guess I am consistent in how many miles I have been traveling, because the tracker still says that if I continue with my average I will finish on September 6th, 2025.
I am reading the same three books, Atomic Habits, along with my Biggest Loser group, The Prisoner of Azkaban with my Hogwarts group, and the Complete Short Stories of Roald Dahl Volume One. I haven’t touched the short stories in a while. I need to get back to it. The two with the groups are just a couple of chapters a week, and I don’t like to get ahead.
I continue to work on my three new year’s resolutions. I completed them all again this month; fifty-nine days and on my way to making it a permanent part of my life.
We have been going out to dinner once a week, my planned overage for the week. I haven’t really been making wise choices when I go. When I have a drink, all willpower leaves me. But the good news is that I got right back to it the next day. I guess that is what maintenance is all about.
I have one challenge in March. We are leaving for Vacation next week. A trip to Florida. It is my mom’s cousin (my 2nd cousin) 100th birthday. We are throwing him a surprise birthday party and much of the family is traveling to Florida for the occasion. Greg, Monty and I are driving down. We rented a house with my sisters, brother-in-law, their pup, and my cousin and his wife and hopefully my mom (there will be 8 of us and two dogs). Mom has been having some anxiety attacks about going, so she may stay home. We booked her flights just in case she decides to come at the last minute. I’m hoping to get a small buffer this week – going to work really hard until we leave.
My Goals for March- Maintain my weight, despite the Vacation week
- Continue to log everything – daily tracking of food, exercise and other SMART goals
- Weigh-In Bi-Weekly with my Challenges
- Average 14K steps per day
- Walk every day
- Strength Train 3 days a week
- Continuing Interval Training program - will need to figure out something for the "fast" section while I am on vacation.
- Full Body Stretch workout – once a week
- Stay under sodium goal
- Incorporate one dinner out each week and still stay under weekly calorie goal

I lost a bit of weight by changing my habits eating at restaurants. I only eat out if I am with others and typically order one entrée/no sides or soup and salad
*2025 I will not eat anywhere with a drive thru window!
*I quit drinking cream/sugar after 2 cups of coffee..most days and cut down on wine/beer and buying cake, cupcakes
*Also, I have a meal plan with vegetarian meals at least 5 days per week. I have my meals logged in advance every week, usually around 1500 calories per day. (I'm short 5'2). I try to stick to the plan, but not counting calories anymore.
Wishing everyone the best with this challenge! 🥳 Happy New Year!!!

02/24-195.4-(Trend Weight: 195.4)- My best friend Diana passed away on Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer. These last months (and especially weeks) have been very difficult. I have been leaning on food as a crutch and my emotional eating has been through the roof. Coupled with other normal life stresses, my emotions have been through the roof. Services are Saturday. If I can just make it to and through then I feel like I can get a better handle on things. Until then, I will do as much damage control as I can. February is round out to be one of my worst months in a very long time. Frustrated but determined. I am giving myself as much grace as possible. I know what I’ve been going through.
02/28-197.8-(Trend Weight: 196.1)- I think this is the worst documented month I’ve had on MFP after many, many years. This month has been filled with depression, loss and confusion. What these numbers don’t show is that I actually gained 8 lbs in February (in between weigh-ins), and then lost most of it. It was a rough month and now I’m putting the pieces back together. The good news is that I only went off the rails for a few days, rather than for months like I would have in the past. All my new skills are holding! Onward!

February update post
Hi everyone! This is my fifth restart of MFP and with gratitude to you and the UAC group, I am 3 weeks longer than any previous MFP start. Thank you!! This challenge I have lost over 20 lbs. also more than a have at any prior single start. Thank you so much!! Joined my gym (prepaid for a year) last month and have been water walking with weights 2 times a week, Aqua Zumba 2 times a week and yoga 1 times a week that is pretty big change from December when I walked less than 1k steps in a day. I ordered my new swimming headphones - my weight loss and consistency reward for the 10 pounds and the month of February.
I look forward to seeing your updates and to celebrate your milestones with you as well!!

03/01-196.4-(Trend Weight: 196.4)- My power was out until 8:00 am this morning so there was no sleep because I had no C-Pap machine. I tried but to no avail. Finally slept from 8:00 am until 11:00 am and I’m not in very good shape for the funeral this afternoon. My oldest DD will be attending with me. It is frigid cold but sunny, bright and beautiful otherwise. My friend Diane would have loved seeing the birds happily flitting around in play this morning. This was a tough round. Coming down on the scale 1.4 lbs overnight helped but I need to get on a losing streak now. I hope to make March a banner month. Please keep my friend Diane and her family in your thoughts and prayers today.
03/03-195.4-(Trend Weight: 196.4)- Down one pound this week with trend staying the same due to the ups & downs of the week. It’s been a rough week. We sent my best friend to the Angels during a very nice service on Saturday. I lost power to my home for 9 hours this week and I had my furnace go out with no heat for 3 days and 2 nights due to the power coming back on with such force. We just about froze to death here in Northern Michigan. So I will take the 1 lb loss and run with it. It’s time for me to get back to my normal life and get busy taking care of my health and my fitness. I finally feel ready for it.

Not sure I like this new format - but it is what it is! Leaving bright and early this morning on vacation for nine days. Hope to stay within my five pound maintenance range - but ideally my goal is to stay under my goal weight (140). Will have a couple challenging food days, but most of the time will just be Greg and I, so should be ok - the biggest obstacle will be the lack of exercise time and the salt in the restaurant food. I'll do my best.

I try to stick to the plan, but not counting calories anymore.Wishing everyone the best with this challenge! 🥳 Happy New Year!!!
