Why can’t I fast more than 16:8 on Myfitnesspal?

Hi there,
Limiting fasting to 16:8 on the app is not realistic knowing that a lot of people sometimes have longer fasts. And that’s something that I actually want to track. Please reconsider. Thanks

I totally agree. I try to do 18. I think it should be no less than 20. If a person does less, that’s fine. But they could even make it 24

My favorite intermittent fast is EOD, going 36 - 42 hours without eating. I'm single and love not having to cook or think about food for an entire day! Once I get into it, it's easy for me. If I can't track it or at least a 24 hour fast here I won't be going premium. So sad. Thank you for getting this info out there!

You can fast longer if you just keep going and when you know your end time just amend it. It'll then track the actual hours you did

If you want to be talking to MFP staff/company, this is not the place to post. The MFP employees don't read every post in the Community.

If you want to talk to "MFP" or staff, post in one of the Community topic areas they actually read, like Feature Suggestions and Ideas or MyFitnessPal Tech Support Questions. Alternatively, contact them through the Help link on each page, or the support email address, or by DM-ing one of the staff whose IDs are listed in a post in the News and Announcements section of the Community.

Here, you're just talking to other MFP users with no more power than you have yourself. That may be a venting outlet, but it's not a productive way to seek changes or question the company's current practices.

Lots of people here don't fast at all. I don't. I suspect MFP limits fast durations because they have lots of policies to limit things that are occasionally done by regular people, but also frequently done in unhealthy segments like the pro-Ana segment. But I don't know. I don't work for them, either.

    This.

There may be some sort of liability issue that the corporate lawyers have identified that keep them at a minimum 16:8.

I’m a dietitian and fasting over 16 hours lower your metabolism because your body thinks it’s starving.

Very low calories is when your body registers starvation. A complete water registers differently….it's an interesting dynamic. And, yes, probably MFP is considering liability in limiting fasting hours. I enjoy MFP for several reasons, but I also use another format to accommodate my regular IF schedule.
