Hello

Hi I’m Sarah, not totally new to this app but haven’t used it for a while. Not been very well lately so I thought I’d better keep an eye on things , weight etc. Feeling loads better now apart from being ill in bed for a couple of weeks has left me with decreased leg muscles and I’m struggling to walk . Planning on upping the protein and iron and finding leg exercises that I can start at home 🏠 I will not be beat ! 😂

    Welcome back, Sarah.

I don’t mean to sound Debbie Downer. Think of me as Debbie Pusher, instead.

My mom was sidelined for a couple months following an illness, lost much of her leg muscle (already morbidly obese) and refused to do anything about it. Her muscles atrophied, starting with her feet and working their way up to her neck. She lost the ability to feed herself or hold things.

Do NOT be my mom. Your loved ones don’t want to sit by helplessly and watch you fall into less and less activity.

For me, it was being on a cane and a walker for a couple months following an illness. I let my own self slide further into obesity before I woke up and did something about it.

I implore you! Get off your bottom and do something. Anything.

I know it’s hard. But, surprisingly, it’s hard just for the first few days. Then it becomes something you look forward to, and then something you need

There’s a woman here who was in pretty bad shape, who set a goal of walking to her mailbox each day. Then she was able to increase it to the neighbor’s mailbox, the telephone pole, the second pole. It took her weeks, but she stuck to it until she was able to do a mile. After months, she was able to increase that, too.

Take advantage of any opportunity you have to have physical therapy. My gym is associated with a hospital and open to staff, patients in the special rehab unit, and community members, like me. If you have access to anything like that, it’s wonderful. Other than hospital staff, clientele skews older, and not only are we nonjudgmental, we pretty much cheer when people “graduate” from the rehab gym to the “regular” gym.

Hoping you find your way back o better health.

I stumbled over your post because I needed to.
I am sorry you fell ill, I know a thing or two about it, it's no fun and I hope you will be better soon. I hope it's not a chronic disease, but even if it is, rest assured you will rise to the occasion. We human beings are remarkable. I remember that I cried when I heard my diagnosis (autoimmune disorder, incurable) all
the 'stuff' nobody wants to hear but then my attitude kicked in. I am an optimist and a week later I was ready to fight.

I wish you all the best. Never give up~!
