Myalgic Encephalomyelitis

Hello. I have myalgic encephalomyelitis and too much exertion can be catastrophic for my body. This limits my ability to exercise the way I used to. I have gained over 30 pounds since this diagnosis (but have had it for at least 6 years). Is there anyone in this community who has this diagnosis (ME/CFS)?

    Hello Stir,
This is my first time of hearing Myalgic Encephalomyelitis so I can't even understand how that affects your way of life. I do have Multiple Hereditary Exostoses. This is a genetic disorder that affects bone and cartilage. My bones and joints are deformed and my muscles have spikes in them. So the more I exercise the more painful it will be. My joints have also broken down over the 50 years of my life and I'm sure I have scar tissues in places I can't even imagine. I was far more capable the younger I was. Back in 2008 I would walk 1.4 miles every day (cane in hand) but now there is no remote snowball's chance in hell that I will get near that.

I will tell you that losing weight without exercise is possible. in 2008 I lost 32lbs without any exercise at all because I wanted some weight off my joints. Now that I am more experienced in losing weight I know that there are lower impact options from water aerobics to chair exercises. I started my first chair exercise video today and I lasted 8 minutes.

You simply do what you can, push yourself a little and stop when it becomes too much. Then be proud of yourself that you did. If all you can do is one step. One movement. Then make that step and movement. But if you have a day where you can't. Know that is ok too. You just have to be more aware of what you eat.

    You can do this.
