MyFitnessPal Community Update to Rich Editor Format (3/4/2025)

I made this link using the new editor tools
I see @Nova there are URL options when editing a thread.

And how does one create a bookmark in the app?

Currently all "Bookmarks" are broken in groups.

I don't seem to be able to insert an image in a spoiler now. I tried in both web browser MFP using Chrome on Windows 10, and on my Samsung phone running Android 14. I was struggling to get cut/paste from/to the spoiler to work in Chrome, and failed, but I admit I didn't fuss with that as long as I did trying to get the image in the spoiler. I hope that it's supposed to work to get images into spoilers, because that seems like a common way to hide big or multiple photos that are on-topic to the thread but maybe not of interest to all. I hope I'm just missing something, or tripping over a bug.

I just wanted to say thank you for the effort, patience and grace you have exhibited working with us. I realize you are not the ones who designed this system, nor the ones who made the decisions, you are only here to try to teach us and to act as the liaisons between us and the people who can do something. I apologize on behalf of anyone whose frustrations boiled over into sounding like a personal attack against you rather than just the situation.
Keep up the good fight, and good luck moving forward.

@AnnPT77 Were you able to do that at some point? Also confirming I can't insert an image into a spoiler block, but i'm honestly not sure if that's something that was possible at some point. Leaning towards this just being how the feature works and not a bug.
For what it's worth, the new image formatting tools help with the situations you're describing a ton, even without the ability to hide them in a spoiler.
@Alatariel75 You can't bookmark things via the app, so I would recommend using your mobile device's browser instead for a better experience overall.
@chris_in_cal Vanilla has figured out why this is happening and a fix is forthcoming- stay tuned!
@nossmf Thank you! Just doing our best over here.

It's already been mentioned, but can you follow up on the fix for "Followed Categories" versus "All" in the Recent Discussions (Discussions) page on the web version. Every time I go back to "Discussions" it defaults to "All."
Super Annoying to see the chit chat and other threads I'm not wanting to see.

We confirmed before this is intended behavior earlier in the thread. In addition to creating a bookmark if you're using a web browser, I also added a Followed Discussions quick link today.

Yes, I definitely was able to do that in the past. The OP of this thread is full of them.
By the way, what I linked above was the "/p1" URL of that thread, which is where the photos in spoilers are; but if I click on "view post" in this draft, I get the "latest" page. In the preview I'm seeing here, the spoilers aren't spoilers, but when I look at the "/p1" at the URL the spoilers show up as spoilers with images inside them.
This seriously seems not-right in various ways.

@AnnPT77 Yeah, so I think most of that behavior is attributed to some expected (but calculated) weirdness because we chose not to migrate old posts to Rich Editor style, specifically so that old content wouldn't break. Since the rich editor appears to not support images in spoilers, the post preview (which is showing the post in rich editor format instead of the original) that breaks the spoiler. It's unfortunate, but the alternative is that we update every post on the forum to rich editor and break all of it. I believe this is the better trade.
The confusion with the link, I believe, just stems from the URL itself. I copied the URL you shared and was sent to the first page the first time because I haven't viewed that thread before. After going through it, I get sent to the last page/most recent post, as is consistent with how the rest of the forum has worked.
If you were instead to share this link- which is specifically to the first page, you should find it always goes there and not to the most recent post.
Again, this feels like a change in functionality and not a bug to me. I can certainly propose that feature suggestion, though.

I swear to you that what I posted in was the "/p1" URL. If it changes that URL to some other URL point in the thread unless I jump through hoops about how I paste in the link, I think that's a bug, even though there may be a workaround.
To me, not being able to insert photos in a spoiler is also a degradation of functionality. I can understand some reasons why Vanilla might have intentionally disabled the ability to edit quoted posts, but I can't imagine any reason why they'd want to eliminate putting photos in spoilers. Maybe that's just a failure of imagination on my part, but I don't think so. I can't think of a reason why spoilers should have different editing functionality than the main body of a post.
BTW, I agree with @nossmf about appreciating you and @Nova continuing to engage with us in a polite and professional manner with us about these issues, and continuing to lobby Vanilla for improvements. I fear that my writing tone may sometimes be getting to feel a little testy, though I'm trying to avoid that. Some of these changes are frustrating, and feel very much like usefulness limitations to me. I understand that you're somewhat at Vanilla's mercy, and that we as a body of normal people will fuss just when things change, whether the changes might be more tolerable in the long run or not.

Okay.
Could you please tell me where the Quick Link is? That would be a good thing that would make it a little easier. Thanks!

@cmriverside I added it to the home page, but it should be on Recent Discussions as well now.

I know this comment is only so helpful, and am only putting this comment here after using the new editor product for a couple weeks now. I find it MUCH MORE DIFFICULT, than what was offered before. I am posting and participating less than previously. What prompted my sharing this today is simply because I again encountered the MFP banner stating "We are pleased to announce that as of March 4, 2025, an updated Rich Text Editor has been introduced in the MyFitnessPal Community. To learn more about the changes, please click here. We look forward to sharing this new feature with you!". As I sat here trying to prepare my now minimized daily post, seeing the words "sharing this new feature with your!" triggered me a little.
Have a good day all!

Was there any update on the fix to the community in the app:
- loading to the bottom of the page rather than the top when navigating to recent posts or next page?
- being too wide in "Recent Posts" mode and scrolling half off the page horizontally?

I'm still having the problem with loading to near the bottom of the page instead of to the top in the Android app, too. Annoying.
For whatever reason, I haven't had the wide-page one, which isn't the same as trying to say it isn't happening to lots of other people.

I'm still not able to replicate either of these issues on web, or on iOS, so i'll need to drag out my android device next.
I'm not sure how this works on Android, but you can pinch to zoom in or out; if you happen to have your screen/text size set really large, I could also see how that could be a contributing factor. In either case, if you'd like to create a support request with some other screenshots (or even better, a screen recording) since we can't replicate this, that would go a long way to understanding what's happening and submitting a bug ticket.
That goes for both issues.

Re: The opening at the bottom of the page issue.
There's nothing unusual about my screen size or text size. It's exactly as it was when this used to work more appropriately. I just opened the Android app, starting from a closed status. I clicked on the "More" menu, then "Community". This is a full phone screen grab of what appears next:
I get the same effect if I scroll to the top of that main Community page, and select one of the topic areas: It takes me there, but near the bottom of that page, too. If I swipe back to the main page, the one I just scrolled to the top of before selecting a topic area, it's once again near the bottom of the page.
This is Android 14, Samsung Galaxy S23 FE phone.
If I do the same sequence of steps on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, also running Android 14, I get the same result. I have also not changed anything about the text size or screen size since this used to work correctly.
I'd try it on another Android device if I had one, but I don't.
Could you please dig out your Android device, and see whether you can recreate the problem on Android, or ask another staff person who has an Android device to do so?

I am also on Android, and am not zoomed in in any way. In fact, I can't actually zoom in in the MFP app even if I want to.
I have a screen recording showing the way that navigating to a new page in the community loads the page around the middle rather than at the top, and also the side scrolling issue, I just need to work out how to send it through.

@AnnPT77 Was able to replicate the "loading to the middle of the page" pretty consistently with a few colleagues so I am happy to report that to Vanilla.
@Alatariel75 Still unable to replicate your other issue on Android, so without some further info from you or someone else experiencing it, I can't reasonably report this bug to Vanilla. You can create a support ticket by visiting https://myfitnesspal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us or email directly to support@myfitnesspal.com. Please send that screen recording/any other info you have there and it will reach me.

@durden: Thank you very, very much. I do appreciate your checking it out.
I've contacted MFP support in the past, but in this case I felt fairly confident there was some general systemic issue, possibly related to the recent upgrade . . . and I appreciate not having had to get into a lengthier back and forth of emails with the support team, with possibly a longer delay in getting the report into Vanilla's hands.
I also appreciate you. 🙂 Many thanks!

This morning I am ticked.
For two weeks, I have been able to cut and paste a carefully crafted file from word to MFP, with nothing fancy added to make sure it worked, but I was living with those results. For two weeks the "paste" matched what I typed.
NOW this morning, I go to the exact same file, and cut and paste exactly the same, and all these extra spaces have been inserted. Same file, same actions, different results.
What was done to the editor in the last 24 hours?????!
0 -
Nothing was done in the last 24 hours. We covered this earlier in the thread, but if you're pasting in a large document from a computer you'll want to right-click and "paste and match style" for best results.
Long story short, every text editor has their own thing going on. I tested pasting between every editor I had available on my device and got different results pasting from every one- it's very much not just our site. Unless you're literally using plain text (no we're not doing that) it's an issue across the board, and thankfully there is an easy workaround for it.

Your browser should have something like that available, but that's outside of my purview.
